- How is everyone's Japanese studies? Today, I thought I'd show you my Japanese textbooks for N5, N4, and N3. Over the past 4 years, I've purchased these books to have more learning resources available at home for self-studying Nihongo. As I've grown more serious in my studies, I decided to invest more in different textbooks to gain more knowledge and techniques in learning Japanese.

Thanks! I bought a couple of books based on these suggestions. I finished the Genki books and have moved on to Quartet. I didn't see Quartet in your pile, so that might be something to consider.
You’re welcome. And also thanks for the recommendation! I’ll be sure to check it out in my next book shopping.🙂
@@monimalistthere's a very helpful review for intermediate learner books by TokiniAndy on youtube and he also compared Tobira with the Quartett books.
You're using many of the books I love as well (though I'm studying for N4 not N3) ❤ That Japan Times Best Practice Test book is amazing. I used it for the N5 and I love that you're supposed to detach the test parts from the spine so that it feels more than the actual test 😍
I also used the Speed Master reading comprehension book in the past and found it really helpful. I'm currently using the grammar one but find the explanations a bit too short. I switched to the Bunpro app for Android instead
Oh really? You can detach it?? Thanks for letting me know! That’s interesting.☺️
I find that finding the right textbooks really depends on one’s learning style. It can be frustrating when you realize midway that you’re incompatible with the study material.😅
Good luck on your studies!
@@monimalist Yes, that's really a bummer. And thank you! 🙏
As a beginner in Japanese, I began my journey with manga and anime, but I struggled to understand the main idea without assistance. I used to depend on Google Translate, which didn't help me progress in learning the language. Now, I prefer Immersive Translate because it presents both languages side by side, allowing me to learn new words and phrases on my own rather than just skimming through poorly translated texts.
I agree, Google Translate can be inaccurate and misleading. I’d want to look into Immersive Translate. Thank you for sharing your experience.🙂
heyy!! i wanted to ask whether you need the workbook with the genki N5 textbook or if i can just get the workbook by itself :D i don't have much personal money so i was wondering if you needed both or if i could just have one. thanks!!
I personally just used the textbook sans workbook over time. The textbook itself has sufficient exercises already, IMO. But if you want to challenge yourself further, get the workbook.🙂
Thank you for the recommendations! I have been meaning to buy the Japanese for zero books. Do you have any thoughts on them?
You’re welcome! I remember buying their Kanji textbook, but I sadly did not like it. When it arrived, I didn’t expect it to be so huge. Everything was too big: the book itself, the text… it felt like a children’s textbook. Even the cover design. Plus the teaching method wasn’t doing it for me. I don’t have any idea about their other books though.
I'm just starting out in Japanese. I don't whether tp go for Genki or Tobira, and also, is it worth getting both Kodansha Kanji Learners Course book & Kanji 2500? Differences..?
I prefer Genki over Tobira when just beginning Japanese. I haven’t encountered Kodansha yet so I cannot form an opinion about it. For my kanji studies, I use a combination of Kanji 2500 and the Kanji app (using my tablet).
@@monimalist Ok, thanks. I've actually gone for Tobira, and also Kanji 2500. I prefer the layout of Tobira :)
@@jasoncollins865you should come back with an update on how you're liking them. I've tried genki in the past and I didn't like it too much. Though I'm not sure what exactly.
Is the Genki books for beginners? It would really help me to know❤
Yes, definitely for beginners.☺️
@@monimalist Thank you so much😊
I'm a beginner who wants to learn Japanese, in all of this book which one should i buy first? Like a list that i should buy
Thank youu
I recommend getting Genki and N5 Vocabulary textbooks first.☺️
