You probably will never see this but I tried falling into the water during "frogger" and there are alligators that eat you if you don't get out quickly! i
Might be a settings issue.. honestly have never played it but have heard of people lowering the graphics levels and having better luck. Hope that helps!

Ik this was 8 years ago but yes there are crocodiles in the river (probably not gators though as they aren't known to live in island habitats)

Whether it's crocodiles or alligators, I definitely fell in the water and got eaten by one 6 times, I believe.
