  • Most people when they swim slow down during the flip turn. However, the flip turn should be a boost of speed during your swim. To do a very fast freestyle flip turn we will take a look at three things that can make it or break it.
    The first is the angle at which you push.
    To push in a straight angle you need to land with your feet a little bit separated and the knees bent a little more than 90 degrees.
    The last point is something most of all struggle with. Because landing perfectly in the wall is very important, many of us look at the wall before we turn. It is not a big deal, but if you want to get a little faster on each wall and every tenth of a second is extremely important to you, then it is worth practicing. By keeping your head in line with your body, you are dragging less water and you will be in a better position to push off the wall.
    There you go. Oh and don’t forget to blow bubbles out of your nose or water will get in when you turn.

    Okay so I’m in high school, and this girl beat me by 0.2 seconds in the 500yd swimm, and I got hella mad. This video was very informative, but I’m not sure how I can’t not look at the wall to see where I’m going, it kind of sounds scary to me.. any suggestions?

      I’m also in high school and swim as well try looking at the T at the bottom of the pool to judge where you are from the wall

    One observation of mine, while lap swimming and watching others is that the head high coming into the wall is what many do to 'see' the wall. Learning to 'see' the wall by looking up with your eyes, rather than raising your head pretty much eliminates this problem, some thing I learned when swinging around the high bar in gymnastics. The head high also seems to contribute to having your bum come way up in the air when you turn, which could come in handy if you are doing flip turns in 3 feet of water and don't want to leave skin or fur in my case, on the bottom of the pool. If you are getting that sonic boom/kerthump sound when you do your flip turns, your head is too high...I have to spot the wall when I turn, I just don't trust the marks on the bottom of the pool. Not exact enough........

      You need to blow bubble slowly and breathe before the turn.

    I get a head rush when doing this.. like the blood that rushes to my head makes my head hurt after the flip turn.. is this normal?

    • @SkillsNT

      Maybe you are going to deep? Maybe you are moving your head too much? I don’t really know without watching your turn but it’s not normal 😕

    00:00:01,489 --> 00:00:05,230
    Fast Flipturn!
    빠른 엎어 돌기!(flip turn)
    2
    00:00:09,367 --> 00:00:13,754
    Most people when they swim slow down during the flip turn.
    대부분의 사람들은 엎어 돌기를 할 때 헤엄치는 것이 느려집니다.
    3
    00:00:13,831 --> 00:00:18,250
    However, the flip turn should be a boost of speed during your swim.
    하지만 여러분은 헤엄치는 동안 엎어 돌기를 통해 속도를 높일 수 있어야 합니다.
    4
    00:00:18,370 --> 00:00:23,526
    A fast flip turn has three things that can make it or break it.
    빠른 엎어 돌기가 되느냐 마느냐를 결정하는 세 가지 요인이 있습니다.
    5
    00:00:23,622 --> 00:00:26,931
    The first is the angle at which you push.
    첫 번째는 밀고 나오는 각도입니다.
    6
    00:00:27,001 --> 00:00:31,342
    Here you can see that she was too close to the wall when she pushed.
    지금 보고 계시는 수영인은 밀고 나올 때 벽에 너무 가까이 붙어 있습니다.
    7
    00:00:31,367 --> 00:00:38,095
    Because of that her legs were too high and she pushed down too much.
    그래서 다리가 너무 높고 그 때문에 너무 아래를 향해 밀고 나오게 됩니다.
    8
    00:00:38,262 --> 00:00:41,399
    This other example is the opposite.
    이번 예는 그 반대의 경우입니다.
    9
    00:00:41,510 --> 00:00:48,893
    He pushed upwards and then had to come back down a little to make an underwater kick.
    위를 향해 밀고 나왔고 그러고 나서는 물속 차기를 하기 위해 약간 아래로 내려와만 합니다.
    10
    00:00:49,009 --> 00:00:55,175
    Ideally you want to push in a straight angle perpendicular to the wall.
    이상적으로는 벽면에 수직인 반듯한 각도로 밀고 나와야 합니다.
    11
    00:00:55,278 --> 00:01:02,420
    This way you will create less resistance and you will be in a good position to do as many underwater kicks as you want.
    그래야 저항을 덜 일으키게 되고 물속 차기를 수행하기에 좋은 자세에 있게 됩니다.
    12
    00:01:02,445 --> 00:01:12,205
    To push in a straight angle you need to land with your feet a little bit separated and the knees bent a little more than 90 degrees.
    똑바른 각도로 밀고 나오려면, 두 발은 약간 벌리고 무릎은 90도 보다 약간 더 굽히면서 벽에 대야 합니다.
    13
    00:01:12,404 --> 00:01:15,839
    Here you can see I landed with my feet too close.
    이 장면에서 저는 두 발 사이를 너무 좁게 하여 벽에 댑니다.
    14
    00:01:15,911 --> 00:01:25,854
    However, it is acceptable to have one foot slightly in front of the other, this will help you rotate your body right away during the streamline.
    그렇지만, 한쪽 발을 다른 발보다 약간 앞에 놓아도 됩니다, 그러면 흐름선 자세를 취하고 있는 동안 곧바로 몸체를 회전하는 데 도움이 됩니다.
    15
    00:01:25,965 --> 00:01:34,486
    Be careful to land with both feet well on the wall or otherwise you will end up pushing with mainly one foot.
    두 발 모두 벽에 잘 대기 위해 신경 쓰십시요. 그렇지 않으면 한쪽 발로만 밀어야 할 수도 있습니다.
    16
    00:01:34,586 --> 00:01:38,483
    The last point is something most of all struggle with.
    마지막 요인은 우리 대부분이 어려움을 겪는 것입니다.
    17
    00:01:38,531 --> 00:01:45,842
    Because landing perfectly in the wall is very important, many of us look at the wall before we turn.
    벽에 완벽하게 대는 것이 아주 중요하기 때문에, 많은 사람들은 돌기 직전에 벽을 쳐다봅니다.
    18
    00:01:45,937 --> 00:01:57,144
    It is not a big deal, but if you want to get a little faster on each wall and every tenth of a second is extremely important to you, then it is worth practicing.
    큰 문제는 아닙니다, 하지만 만약 당신이 매번 벽 돌 때마다 조금 더 빠르길 원한다든지 또는 매 십 분의 일초가 당신에게 중요하다면, 연습할만합니다.
    19
    00:01:57,279 --> 00:02:05,446
    By keeping your head in line with your body, you are dragging less water and you will be in a better position to push off the wall.
    머리를 몸체 정렬선 안에 유지하면, 물을 더 적게 끌고 가게 되고, 벽을 밀고 나오기에 더 좋은 자세를 취할 수 있게 됩니다.
    20
    00:02:05,542 --> 00:02:15,375
    Take a look at these two examples, at full speed.
    다음 두 예를 정상 재생 속도로 살펴보십시요.
    21
    00:02:15,787 --> 00:02:17,771
    Did you notice the difference?
    그 차이를 느끼셨나요?
    22
    00:02:17,850 --> 00:02:26,021
    It is very subtle but if we slow it down you will be able to see it more clearly.
    아주 미묘합니다. 하지만 재생 속도를 느리게 하면 보다 뚜렷하게 확인할 수 있습니다.
    23
    00:02:32,898 --> 00:02:41,047
    Oh and don’t forget to blow bubbles out of your nose or water will get in when you turn.
    아 그리고 잊지 말고 코로 공기 방울을 부세요. 안 그러면 돌 때 코로 물이 들어갈 수 있습니다.
