I like how Robert Plant has managed to look like a completely different person for every single decade of his career lol, best singer ever.
Robert is so articulate and charming. Love him to bits ❤
I love Robert Plant. I think he's just brilliant!!
Fantastic interview right at that turning point for RP as a solo artist in his career. No fishing for LZ hopes and reunion whistles. Well done.
It's amazing to know this is 38 years ago. Where has the time gone????
A true musical historian and expert. What an incredibly insightful interview.
This is such a remarkable interview covering quite a few years of his career . Very reflective
Terrific interview absolutely love Robert
Great interview, thanks for sharing.
This interviewer, Peter Powell, was so genuine. He brought out the best of "interview Plant."
He championed a lot of bands on Radio 1 and genuinely appreciated music.
Very honest and great early interview of being a solo artist..❤😊
Amazing interview - thankyou so much
I've followed his solo career closely for 35 years and I've never seen this interview before. I find his mindset during this particular time period really interesting because it is only a month or two before his show at Wembly Stadium, when, as he has said in subsequent interviews, he came to the realization, mid-show, that this band and this musical direction were not working, and he shortly thereafter disbanded the group and started down the road that would lead him to Now & Zen. Thanks for posting.
The gig in question was actually at the Birmingham NEC - he's never played at Wembley Stadium apart from the Freddie Mercury tribute in 1992.
@@bolinoid thanks for the info - just checked the bootleg I've had for ages and it says Wembley Arena '85, not the stadium. My bad. I've read multiple interviews where he says his moment of clarity occurred during that particular show, but it is certainly possible he's said it happened in Birmingham in other interviews. Overall, wherever he came to that conclusion, it happened a mere few months after this tv interview.
My favorite period was the first 3 albums...Robbie Blunt, Paul Martinez, Jezz Woodroffe, Phil Collins 😢
Thanks for sharing this video.😘
Not seen this before. Thanks very much for posting it.
Love “Shakin and Stirred”. Great 80’s album….one of my favs from Robert.
love the 80's hair on him- had a hard crush on him thru the 70's
cool, never seen this interview before. thanks!
Intelligent and honest, you can't get better than that! Nice one 😊
Even Robert Plant had a mullet in the eighties, I feel much better now.
They're baaack! 😂😂😂
@@parislibby Back in the eighties we didn't even know they were mullets, we just thought it was cool long hair. In the nineties we found out they were mullets, and weren't even embarrassed about it till the 2000's. Gen X, it took us a while, but eventually we did get it.
@robertkees6048 yes, I understand and RP has joked about his hair back then. Unfortunately they've made a comeback amongst the teens, including my grandsons, more exaggerated than ever! 😊
He was 37 at the time the interview was made, but he looks older.
I guess losing a child will do that to you 😢
I've met him personally. He is actually really down to earth and humble man. He doesn't buy into his fame as a rock star. He actually doesn't give a shit about that.
Great insightful interview... nice to know who a legend of his caliber is listening to and admiring and other musicians hes actually friends with .. CHEERS 🥂
Plant 👍
Not seen this one cheers.
The king. He and page
Interesting comment on mixing considerations for AM radio prevalent in Europe at the time.
This video has convinced me that it’s not a myth that people used to look older at younger ages in the past. He was about to turn 37 here. The bags under the eyes, saggy neck, wrinkles etc. look more like 55 today. No offense to him. Of course he had lived fairly wild up to that point, which tends to age you. But still, he looks much older than 37 year olds today.
Chain smoking, drinking, partying etc. plus the grief of losing his son seems to have aged him prematurely. But overall yes, I agree that even without that stuff people tended to look older back then…
11 months ago? Seriously?
Can You Do Have The 2023 Funko Pop! Releases Of Robert Plant & The Other Members In The Band In Funko Pop! Rocks Led Zeppelin Coming In 2023 Please Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss OK Thanks
seems strange that he says soccer instead of football. like he said, england is his home, he still lives there. i didn’t think any brits said it without joking lol
I know some people from England and they go back and forth between using the words soccer and football
The word soccer started in England.
@@BoneCK15 yeah obviously, but by the 80s it was starting to be seen as an americanism and lost popularity.
@@fishboy91 good to know thanks
SnS is a GREAT album & for the record i like 6s&7s & Pnk&Blk much more than LbyL!
Love the early solo yrs
AND
HE SHOULD PULL OFF SOMETHING AGAIN WITH
ROBBIE BLUNT!
His biggest mistake ever getting rid of Mr Blunt
He tried so hard to be on top of the airwaves but he blew it because he tried to be different. I found most of his 80s music to be boring compared to Zeppelin’s best stuff.
Most artists who leave their bands and set up on their own, experiment and end up doing what they enjoy. It's a different approach and part of a maturity.😊
Against All Odd's, Annie Why :)
Lets start somthing that can get word to Robert that we would like him to work on somthing original again with ROBBIE BLUNT!!!
But how would we get this to his ear???
It wouldn't work anymore too many years have gone by !!!!
some charity event would do, just for the Midlands!
One of those £200/hour girls in the Burning down one side video was page 3 girl Linda Lusardi
He must be so embarrassed that he was talked into this hair-do.
The 80s have a lot to answer for, although Robert has said he's at peace with it now 😅
The interviewer looks and sounds
Like a posh English army officer
I'm a little perturbed by Robert being positive about Duran Duran. As a young lad in the 1980s I regarded Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and similar as the servants of Old Nick himself. In a just world, Lemmy would have been permitted to bash each member of those two 'bands' around the head with his Rickenbacker without any sanction. Re Peter Powell, I recall someone writing to a music paper back in the day saying it was time to reinvigorate the People Against Powell movement. I don't recall the bloke's exact words but it was something along the lines of having a focal point to rail against against the smirking DJ's intense naffness, which in fairness to Powell was de rigueur at Radio 1, John Peel aside.
Never heard of any movement against Peter Powell. But it underlines the nastiness of Britain evident even then. Always bullying other people, always pointlessly tribal. John Taylor of Duran Duran is widely considered to be an excellent bassist and the rest of the musicians in the band were proficient. Plant obviously recognised their ability.
@@eightiesmusic1984 I doubt there was any movement, more that the guy who wrote this just wasn't a fan of Powell. I don't think it's indicative of nastiness or bullying, more a reaction against the type of DJ then, which Morrissey and Harry Enfield felt compelled to comment on via Panic and Smashie and Nicey. I wouldn't say Duran Duran lacked talent but their fan base wasn't the most discerning.

he looks old if this is 1985. he is only 37 years old.
in part, the awful hair and make up
The poodle hair does Robert no favours
Losing a child will do that for you 😢
I wonder if these two slept together. A little too friendly
Hate to think that bit fkk sure seemed weird !
Odd comment.
I think Robert swing's both ways so its possible
@@donjohn2695I doubt that very much!
Plant has the presentation skills of a 12 year old girl
Get a clue.
