thank you for the remarkable collection of nikon aftermarket accessories for the 800mm..you could never find all of them in any one place except on your channel..The lens foot and the filter/hood adapters are the most interesting for me..Cheers
Retiring to the NC coast and building a house along the ICW where I have Pelicans, Herons, and the occasion pod of Dolphins literally in my back yard motivated me to start doing wildlife photography with a new Canon R6mkII and 100-500mm lens. I quickly realized I needed to up my tripod game and searching for solutions the UA-cam algorithm caused your channel and tripod video to appear in my feed for the first time. I just completed the tripod, leveler, fluid head and replacement Kirk bridge including wrapping the legs with the kit linked from your web page and I must say it is a brilliant combination, especially the Kirk bridge for the MVH500AH to make it plug-and-play A-S compatible. I also purchased the Kirk A-S foot for the Canon RF100-500mm which is just long enough to balance the lens on the Kirk bridge equipped Manfrotto head in both the 100 and 500mm positions. After using my 24-70mm 2.8 and 70-200mm 2.8 with 2x extender with a Meike VND EF-RF adapter for video I realized it was short sighted of Canon not to include rear mounted drop in filters on the RF100-500mm and all the other RF lenses because we live in a new age where most photographers want to shoot stills and video interchangeably. Granted it would make the lenses an inch or so longer but it would be far more convenient for adjusting video exposure when using shutter = 2x frame rate at fixed optimum LOG ISO. Perhaps (hopefully) that is because built-in auto-adjusting VND will be included in the camera bodies at some point in the future, activated when the camera is put into video mode. In the meantime I’m still searching for the ideal solution for adding ND to my RF100-500mm.
I've watched your video multiple times. I've even watched the manufacturer's videos as well. I still don't understand what the advantages of Zemlin's lens hoods are over the factory hoods. Eye-cups? Yes! I bought one for my Zf, and it's awesome. So, I know the quality is great.
@@PatrickSmeaton they're just way, way nicer after using both. I prefer the material, the way they attach, the rubber ring on the front, his superior pinch caps and thier compatibility. I also prefer the longer hood. More protective of the lens reversed and I set the camera hood down on the ground and cull leaned over with back of the camera up. The long hood makes that much more comfortable.
Hi Hudson - Kase has also pre-released the drop-in kit with a variable 1.5-5 stop ND filter which can be rotated via the thumb wheel. I have the Nikon CPL, so this variable ND filter is of interest. Now if I could only get the 600mm I ordered to go with it…
Got a Zemlin cap for my 500 pf (and about to order a hood too, as -- surprise! -- the Nikon hood came off unnoticed as I hiked through snow) and IF Nikon ever ships the 600 z I've ordered I'll be accessorizing it with a Zemlin cap and hood. I've said for decades: Love the multiple thousands of dollars Nikon lenses; shame they ship with 15 cent caps and (oftentimes) hoods :) Great content, as always. Thanks.
Great video on accessories. I have Karl's lens hood for the Nikkor Z 100-400mm. What a breath of fresh air to use it compared to Nikon's hood. Karl's customer service is also incomparable. When I was having difficulty in putting on the ring on to the lens, Karl made a video specifically on how to attach it to the 100-400mm. That's called service! The padded Lens Coat lens cover is a great idea. I am going to get one for the 100-400 and one for the 200-500. One other thing. Thank you so much for making the video series on Z9 set up. I have set up my Z9 following yours and it's working great!!
I purchased the Zemlin lense cap for my 800mm f6,3 pf ed,a quality product indeed. However am unable to verify the fit as our friends at Nikon have yet to deliver to me,and many others the lense.C’mon Nikon your 12 month waits are too much to bare.
Thanks for the review. Really helped with my decision to invest in Nikon 800mm. You mentioned a Kase UV filter and associated mounting hardware. Where can I find those items (on your website)?
Oh good. An 800mm lens with a little door in the back into which you can insert filters - along with dust and other things one would not want inside the system. Is there an element behind the filter opening or is the camera sensor the next thing in line?
Always brilliant video and excellent information on products that one may not be aware of. Difficult here in Ireland to get some of the items mentioned
Great video. I don't have one of those lenses yet but am saving this info for later. I am also very interested in the Synology local backup video you talked about in the setup video. Any idea when we might see that one?
Why are u taking the think tank and not your Pelican Air? Great find on that UV, I am looking at it as I hate having the exposed front element. Does the "kit" on B&H come with that kase cap? It doesn't mention it, but I also don't see another link from you for it. And that draw string bag style hood from nikon for the 800 I feel is fine... for the previous generation of long lens that was living on a tripod, but nikon didn't think the newer lighter concept thro, as that 2 hand drawstring hood is very cumbersome if you're not mounted.
I saw some chatter on the lens cap awhile back. Any concern that the Spring steel pieces inside the cap could come out and harm the front element? I’m not sure if the design has them retained so this could never happen?
While they are visible, the spring wires are fully captured in the cap. I have to insert the stainless steel spring wires in from the side. You need to pry the wire out of the groove or use pliers to remove it. The groove is open on the bottom to facilitate the 3D printing process. All the contact faces in the cap against the wire are angled to direct the wire away from the lens. The cap is also extremely strong. I tested my largest cap by supporting it only the rim and standing on a small plug in the center with my full weight (225 LB at the time). The cap deflected less than 1mm and there were no signs of failure in the cap - no cracking, no damage, no impact on fit or function. Also, thanks for your order!
Hudson quick question: is the Kirk lens foot compatible with RRS (Arca Swiss) clamp mechanisms? Reason I ask is I purchase a Kirk plate a few years ago for a nikon 70-200 lens and was shocked to see that the RRS clamp accessory wouldn't`t work with it as the base was too thick for their proprietary specs.
I have a RRS BH-55 ball head with the quick release clamp. I have Kirk tripod feet on my 400 f/2.8 VR, 20-700 f/2.8E FL, and the new Z 400 f/2.8 TC lens (same foot as the 800 f/6.3 PF). They all work fine with the RRS clamp.
I do wish that you and others get over the Arca Swiss lense foot,Sony does not have it,Canon does not have it nor does any manufacturer that I know of offer it,we know already and I am reasonably sure their is a reason for it. Manfrotto is not offered either, get over it.

Can wait to order some Zemlin products - currently having production issues… 😕

Zemlin products are amazing! I own a lens cap for the Z400/2.8. Great fit and build quality!

Great info as always. I just ordered the Kase ND & CPLfilters from your link. I have the Zemlin cap and think it is superior to any OEM Caps.

Accessories sound great. One major problem here in Australia. Nikon is not shipping the Z800 PF, and I presume other long Z lenses.
Hudson, great video. However I wish I could find a new 800 mm lens. Huge waiting list at B&H.

Lens plate recommendations for Z 100-400 lens..arca Swiss??

Hey Hudson are you going to do an update to the z9 action settings bank based on the recent firmware update?
I did one for the last meaningful one. Look back a little. I'm planning an update again later in the spring though.
Very interesting.
Do you prefer the Airport International or the Streetwalker Rolling Backpack? Thanks.
Pelican Air is my favorite. I do sometimes use the airport international for my 800mm kit, but the Pelican Air is tops in general.
Thank you. @@HudsonHenryPhoto

@@kzemlin absolutely. Appreciate your reply and you products. Can’t wait to give this one a run. Thank much, Karl.
Why can’t Nikon make these lenses? I’ve been waiting for 4 months at B&H.
