I've got an MS260 that I bought as a non-runner with the intent that it would be a project to work on with my 11 year old son. I've done a lot of work on Stihl saws but I've never split the case on one. I'm glad I did on this one because the crank bearings were well on their way to being shot. There are several videos on UA-cam showing how to install the crank bearings, but I like yours because you showed, through measuring, that the bearings do essentially just fall into place if you use the heating and cooling method. It was also nice to hear that you need to have the oiler in place to get the right set on the PTO-side bearing. I wasn't sure how I was going to get that one in the right place. Good tip!
The bearings can be a little tricky when you get to assembling things. As I remember one has to go on the crank first unless you have a crank puller. It's been a while so I can't remember fully, but once you get into it, you should see how everything fits together.
@@ray5961 I watched your follow-up video where you described the problems you and with the PTO side bearing moving when you went to install the crankshaft. I ordered some parts from a guy I've known for a while who has a Stihl dealership. I'll make sure to pick his brain a little bit to get some tips for putting the crankshaft assembly back together.
I can't remember exactly what I did.. but yeah I think I put the bearings into the oven and the crank into the freeze. But as I remember, one side kinda come out during assembly and I had to redo it or something. It's a bit tricky as I recall.

Is there a reason you didnt pull the oil pump off to install the bearing? You have to pull it off to replace the seal anyway right?

I am rebuilding a 026, what size balls did you use for the stock bearings? I cant find the specs anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
