Great video and you look totally at home and integrated with your environment. Although a different country, I left the UK and bought a property up in the hills of the south of Spain with amazing 390 degree views of both the sea at the front and mountains at the back. But although I had been to spain many times, and researched it over many years (and even married and divorced to a spaniard for 14 years in the UK -prior to moving there!). What I found most difficult to adjust to, was 'mentally' slowing down ('not' physically) trying to adjust to the whole slow pace thing in every aspect of living in spain. (especially important/official situations). After 3 years I sold up and returned to a 'mental' faster pace of life. (not to say the physical pace!). And I know a big part of it was when my beloved Max, my 8+ year old super-fit chocolate Labradoodle, who came with me, was suddenly diagnosed with leukemia 12 month after arriving in the country, together, and died 9 weeks after diagnosis, right at the beginning of covid lockdown.. I think Spain is a wonderful country, and the people also. But personally I found that wherever you are and you get that 'indescribable' feeling in your stomach and mind in those silent alone moments, then that is home, and where you settle.
Thanks for your thoughtful message. It must have been so hard loosing your pup. We had a similar situation happen to us when we just arrived here with Duckies mum who was with us when we came here, she ate some poison in the streets of the village we were renting in and it was heartbreaking and almost shook us totally. Fortunately we persevered because we absolutely LOVE living here, when we lived in Portugal it was amazing but it never felt like home how Italy does so I definitely know that feeling you describe. I think it’s common for people to turn back to where is more comfortable and if that feels like home that’s ok. There are many lives to be had we only need move in the direction of our hopes and dreams and live the life that feel’s honest to ourselves, that’s all that matters at the end of the day 😊

oh my…. I’m considering a couple of years ( or?) to a small village in Italia… and your ‘life view ‘ and esthetics -gave me all the validation I needed. Can you refer rental or contacts for Oria? Also, your website for your ceramics. I’m an artist-designer longing for Italy. I’m a young at heart lady traveler … you have created a blessed life… ti auguro il successo!
There are so many incredibly lovely villages in Italy! We honestly cannot wait to explore more. We’ve fallen for the people and the lifestyle for sure. Genuine in one word. For rentals your best bet would be Airbnb anytime but august you can find something reasonably priced, come and stay for a few months and look around see where clicks! We don’t have a website currently just our instagram @studiomdb :) 🌹
Ciao, vi trovate ad Oria ? La città dei Santi Medici? Bellissime le tue ceramiche..si adattano perfettamente alla nostra antica cultura. Benvenuti in Puglia.
Lovely video, thoroughly enjoyed it - thanks for taking us along on your daily errands and for showing us the celebration set up in the centro storico. Aaaah, the plunge pool - certainly a drawcard for your pooches LOL. Your meals look so yummy....fresh and simplistic. Spotted a few of your pots that I like.....great work indeed!! You have created a most beautiful Oases. My compliments🌺🥂🌺 Ps. How do you keep the concrete serfases (tables, worktops etc.) stain-free. Have they been specially treated?. Thank you for sharing your wonderful videos🌺💖🌺
Thank you for your kind comment. They do still get some small stains like coffee or wine occasionally but honestly nothing that’s hard to clean out. They are also sealed with a natural sealer so that helps a lot. Unfortunately no surfaces are really totally immune from some staining but we learn to accept those little things as part of enjoying life cooking, drinking and enjoying 😊
amazing day in a life seriously you have access to wholesome homemade non toxic food at a affordable price. By supporting the locals you know what you are eating and keeping the community strong. Yes we feel so lucky to live in a country where we still know the people that grew most of our fresh food we eat and the prices are still affordable. It takes more effort to go to the smaller producers rather than a big supermarket but we feel it’s worth the effort given the alternative that we see in modern society. We hope to grow and produce more of our own to share with the community in the future too. Sending our best. 🌹
Lovely! Watched with my 95 yo mother and we marveled at the fruit salad w/ cream. Yummy! The neighborhood with the blue and white flags is the Jewish ghetto! The arched portal featured a flag with a Menorah!!! Beautiful!! Loved the natural jute rug that the gold doggie was laying one. Where did you buy it? KUTGW! :)
Oh that’s so nice :) yes you’re exactly right it is the Jewish quarter indeed! The jute rug is from a place called dharma door. Thanks for tuning in ☺️
The deli with the choice of fresh products and all the fruit and vegetables made you want to buy them. In England the authorities complain about packaging but most supermarkets have stopped their deli counters and everything now comes ready wrapped. Would rather have Italian delis any day.

Perhaps you spoke about this in another video....But did you need to have an increased amount of electricity hooked up to your house from the local comune? And was there additional paperwork and permitting involved?...I *think* you have an induction stove and then also a kiln-- both of which require more than a "normal" amount of electricity... I'm just curious as we also bought a home in Salento (much further south) and need to understand our electrical needs and then how to deal with them as we will need to renovate the electricity completely... after the plumbing....😀Thanks for any information about this... & All the best- from a fellow artist (NYC-based)
Hi! Yes you need to request the upgrade but you’d first speak to your electrician and tell them what you need so they wire it correctly to the amount you want to draw with the correct rings etc and then you can request the upgrade of KW from the power company you end up using. The standard I think is 3KW. So if they wire your house for the then you won’t be able to request a higher KW because your system won’t be able to handle it. Not sure if that makes sense. The price goes up obviously the higher KW you go. I can’t remember how much our system is but our kiln isn’t 3phase so it doesn’t draw that much, you can request 3 phase system though if needed for a larger kiln but once again it needs to be done through the electrician first and then the power company. The municipality doesn’t have anything to do with it :) hopefully that helps. It’s a bit complicated to explain on a message……

@@Maisondebase Thanks so much! - makes total sense. We won't need a kiln (I only make collage-paintings) but we will have 2 induction stoves... (for the upstairs kitchen & guest kitchen downstairs)...and then digital things (which I wont elaborate on here).😶 We will also need to do the calculations a full solar system (to be installed years from now when we can afford it)... our place has daily unobstructed full sun and the roof is large enough- but as you said ..all electrical needs will be worked on in concert with a proper electrician. I was thinking to go with solar hot water also- is there a reason you decided to not do that?... We need to do all the plumbing first (the place was vacant for 10 years & no maintenance for at least 20)... we can live with solar generators to power the house if we cant afford the new electrical for a while... But I cant live without hot water... coming from NYC- I can only be partially ok with camping inside the house... Grazie Mille e Arrivederci
@@AnaWolovick-lc8bl honestly it should be enough with a 6kw upgrade which is what my husband said we have. Solar would be really useful here in summer and winter for electricity needs given how much sun Puglia gets and the roofs are perfect for it. Regarding solar hot water the reason we didn’t get it is because in summer we literally have cold showers everyday and for washing up the tap water is basically warm so we just don’t feel it’s worth it, our electric one is perfect for the keeping on a low energy saving mode basically all year till winter. We haven’t opted for solar electricity here since we bought this place as a covid project and ended up staying longer than expected because we enjoyed being here so much but the budget for it wasn’t there at the time, otherwise we would definitely install solar on the roof….camping for a time in your house is fun, challenging and character building, much to consider and know but you will get there :)
@@Maisondebase ok that's fantastic thanks - much appreciated. I just finished watching your 'one year timelapse' - WOW! I'm so inspired. I've spent the last 10 years living between Scotland and N. Italy. Now I'm considering Puglia. 🥂 Thank you for sharing your journey 🙏🏼
Hi! We bought the place back during covid, it was basically in an abandoned state and we’ve been renovating it over the last few years. We run a small creative studio from home together, we do ceramics and design and styling among other things and that sustains our life here. ☺️

Nice video…I like that you are showcasing life there. Do you have an online shop for your pottery?
Thank you! We think it’s nice to show all sides of living not just the renovation things, since life does go on as they say :) we don’t have a shop yet we just post a few things on our instagram account if we have things for sale it’s @studiomdb

(for the upstairs kitchen & guest kitchen downstairs)...and then digital things (which I wont elaborate on here).😶
We will also need to do the calculations a full solar system (to be installed years from now when we can afford it)... our place has daily unobstructed full sun and the roof is large enough- but as you said ..all electrical needs will be worked on in concert with a proper electrician.
In every way, superior to our grocery stores in City-West Berlin 😮
Thanks for sharing :)
I love your ceramics! Where can I buy the coffee mug? I LOVE IT 💜
Hi! All are sold out already now. I will try to make more in future and post about it on here :)
Just found your channel! Is the property yours or is it a rental? I see you do pottery. Does that sustain /maintain your life in Italy 🇮🇹 😊
Hi! We bought the place back during covid, it was basically in an abandoned state and we’ve been renovating it over the last few years. We run a small creative studio from home together, we do ceramics and design and styling among other things and that sustains our life here. ☺️
@@Maisondebase it’s a huge property and lots of doggies 😀
