Chadwick Boseman pays tribute to Denzel Washington at the 47th AFI Life Achievement Award on June 6, 2019 at the Dolby Theatre. In this clip, Boseman: “there is no BLACK PANTHER without Denzel Washington. And not just because of me. My whole cast, that generation, stands on your shoulders.” AFI LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: A TRIBUTE TO DENZEL WASHINGTON aired on June 20, 2019 on TNT. Sister network Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will air the special in October 2019, during a night of programming dedicated to Washington’s work.
Other presenters at the event included Mahershala Ali, Julia Roberts, Jodie Foster, Antoine Fuqua, Jamie Foxx, Morgan Freeman, Michael B. Jordan, Issa Rae, and Cicely Tyson and many others who all paid tribute to Washington's life and work.
Additional guests included Ed Begley, Jr., W. He was first diagnosed with cancer in 2016. So it was constantly on his mind. He just made sure he had the team and medical team that helped him produce a physique for each of his films.
God used Denzel Washington to get him the funding he needed to attend the classes. See , God will make a way when there seems to be no way. All we have to do is ask him. And then trust him to do what we have asked him for.

It’s unfortunate those words will never be said again at any awards show in the future ever again but it’s just really great that he’s no longer in pain. Cuz he was truly was a hero fighting cancer like a boss. I wish he was still here. I really do miss him. Black Panther will be so difficult to process without him. I’ve watched this speech a few times now and Chadwicks words becomes more and more poignant. I believe during that speech he knew his fate and he was doing everything in his power to make sure he told the people he loved and admired that there was a special place in his heart for all of them
