Great video, thanks so much John! It doesn't seem like there's too much good information out there about breaking the 5.0 barrier, so this is great, especially as it's coming from a pro!
Hey John, thanks for another great video. I like that you are covering the different levels. Even though I am trying to get to the 4.0 level it is good to think about and start working on the higher level skills.
Love the part about working on and creating opportunities to use the strengths in your game. Like you, I feel really good about my ability to attack with my forehand off the bounce. I use backhand dinks to force my opponents wide hoping to induce reset dinks to the middle. I’ll attack open space or either of my opponents if I get the right ball. I know I’m going to have a good day when I get accused of running around my backhand to get forehand dinks!
I'm 6'5". Dinking out of the air _is_ my weapon. I watched a video lately about how Tardio gains even more reach by kicking a flamingo leg out back. With an optimal knee bend (around 90 degrees) and the flamingo kick and by lengthening my grip with the pinky dangle (how I normally play), I can extend the tip of my paddle almost exactly 5 feet past the NVL. A 5-foot dig is awkward and off balance, but 4.5 feet is possible from time to time in real play. Already in low 4.0 play, I am not anyone's favourite drop shot target.
Of course these are all important for a 5.0 to have, but the title just saying "How to Get to 5.0" makes it seem like these are all one needs. But every 4.5 I play with and against can counter and volley dink, so I'd like more if this were part of a series of "things you need in order to be 5.0" rather than seeming like this is it
Sorry, not pickleball related, but does anyone else see a horizontal black bar that keeps going up the screen? Is there a fan in the ceiling or something? (This is the video editor in me talking).
Dink wide to their backhands and work their outside foot while adding some middle dinks cross to create confusion. Lots of middle resets cross to create confusion. Drops to bh if possible.
Help 😆 I treat you videos like gold. I’m 4.5 trying to be better. I’m confused …. Your number two tip is to dink out of the air and hold the kitchen. But then your third point, you talked about your best weapon being your forehand dink off the bounce. I thought you were trying to get vollies out of the air? Any clarification and help would be appreciated 🙃
What did you find helpful?
The Philosophy of Pickleball. Your next book!!
I found many things helpful:
The volley drills, the mindset (playing to strengths).
Could you make a video to help with cross court dinks out of the air?
John is one of the best in the business. Your videos are consistently deeper, organized and succinct. Still trying to understand what my strength is.
I'm a solid 4.0 who loves the game! You are a great instructor John! Those 3 tips are spot on! Thanks!
Glad to help

Most helpful for me is the knowledge from a pro identifying the key skill to focus on progressing mid 4 to 5
You the man John! Thanks for putting this out. The video edits are getting sicker 🔥🙌
"flip that mindset"...i needed that!
Gabby is the man!
Really appreciate the content
Also technique for hitting volleys out of air…paddle face etc.
I seemed to get them too high.🤔

John, are 9-10 oz. Static weight paddles common for pro players? Especially singles?
I wouldn’t say it’s common. Most pros are in the mid to high 8’s. Some in the low 9’s. There’s probably only a handful over 10 oz.
@@johncincolapickleball thanks for responding. Experimenting with 9.5 oz. For singles. And hits very stable. Less shock.

How about a video when there’s righty-lefty team?
Dink wide to their backhands and work their outside foot while adding some middle dinks cross to create confusion. Lots of middle resets cross to create confusion. Drops to bh if possible.
Do you think this video pertains to age 50+ players?
Help 😆

Can't take every one out of the air, only when it presents itself
