Love the video! Monk and Columbo together - one of my all-time television dreams! It's such a shame ABC more than likely isn't going to make any more "Columbo" specials because of Peter Falk's age. I mean, he is 80 years old but there are plenty of actors that age and older who are still more than capable of doing that sort of work. If I was an eccentric billionare, I'd pay them millions upon millions to make it. Some might call that bribery but hey, it's Columbo!
Peter Falk, an Academy Award winner, he played both dramatic and comedic roles, and often blended the two in the brilliant detective series Columbo. The situations were complex, and through it, Falk's incredible range of acting was showcased. In the space of a minute, he could look confused and humble to try to disarm his target, often doing it with a bit if comedy, but could launch into a serious dramatic attack on a dime. There will never be a series like it. The writing and Falk's brilliance created an American classic that has been shown worldwide for over 40 years. Starting his career in 1959, he influenced a generation of actors, from comedians to dramatic actors, from television to motion pictures. Director Frank Capra gave him his first break in Pocketful of Miracles, and Falk was ever greatful for that part. What Capra saw in him over 50 years ago, the world would come to know through his brilliant work on the big screen, on television, in front of and behind the camera, a giant in the film industry and as everyone who knew him said, "he was just a regular good guy."
I have not watched to much television or movies in my life...not since I was in my very early 20's...But these 2 guys have been 2 of my few and only favs. :) I have enjoyed watching these fellas. Sad part is they was never real...just in our hearts and imaginations. :( I guess the Good guys, and Hero's always live on there...whether real or imagined. Just a personal thought of my own. Love to All.
very creative. We truly appreciate the work you put into comparing two very unique and talented actors. Maybe this A-B style could help self-proclaimed "critics" in a lot of instances. Pictures do say a thousand words but a thousand words do not say a picture.
I've seen all episodes of both monk and Columbo, and I really like Columbo, but monk I think is better, just because he has a better sense of observation in my opinion, and with Trudy and all his compulsions I think all of it brought more overall flare to the show, but I'm a huge fan of both, and Peter Falk I miss you and I hope I will be able to hear the princess bride from you in person up in heaven sometime. :)
I thought that with Monk they overdid his excessive compulsions to the point of hurting the show. Many scenes were just way too rediculous, not funny or entertaining, and too much time spent on it. I would have liked to see less time on his excessive compusivelness and more time uncovering clues which was the best part of Monk. . . It's why I liked Columbo better.
Good work! That was brilliant! I am happy 'cos Columbo (OLD COLUMBO) will back to Polish tv next month! I watch it when I was baby so its time to back memories
I think the producers of Monk missed a big opportunity in not having Monk and Colombo meet .I would have loved to see just a short meeting like having Colombo walk on to an elevator occupied by Monk smoking his cigar and having Monk cover his nose . That would have been classic In today's age of photo shopping it would have been an easy.trick
Cant say I agree with those top rated comments. Yes Columbo does not have the defects Monk has, but Monk's reasoning ability far surpasses Columbo. His deductive powers rival or exceed Sherlock Holmes, and that is beyond what Columbo does. If given a choice, I would always choose Monk.
I agree, i grew up on Columbo, and there was no oe better at what he did, but Monk is on a whole entire lvl. Monk is otherworldly lol, and funny s hell. Both are awesome, but i too, would take Monk if i had to choose. 1. Monk 2. Columbo 3. Sherlock Holmes 4. Dick Tracey I just threw Dick Tracey in there, thought he deserved a mention lol.
Cool video. The Lieutenant DID make a cameo on Alias and they got it here. For all Columbo fans, they just released his 90s movies on dvd. I got my copy thru amazon.
His family was Palestinian; his father was Polish, with a mix of Hungarian and Czech, and his mother Russian.[5][6] He was the great-grandson of Miksa Falk, chief editor of the Budapest newspaper Pester Lloyd.[7]:216
First of: Nice idea, really, I loved it. Two of my favourite detectives combined in one show - that would have been a bomb. But, as so often, there is a minus: The song is nice, but after a while I wanna rip my ears of just to have some pain I can concentrate on... But without it, awesome!
@furpurr you are completely right and I thought I posted a correction about this a while ago. however, that being said, the originators of Columbo hated this idea SO much they refused to acknowledge her (Mrs. Columbo) and insisted she be changed to be more vague in later episodes. I think that is how I got confused about it. To me there was no Mrs. Columbo. RIP Peter Falk
@kerryoke68 Kate Mulgrew was indeed Mrs. Columbo, and I mean Peter Falk's Columbo's wife. Just take a look at the opening credits of Mrs Columbo TV series. You will see, Columbo's dog, Columbo's notes on the wall, the typewriter, and also Columbo's beaten up car parked on the driveway. Kate was Mrs. Columbo ;)
i always dreamed of columbo meeting his distant cousin, monk, somewhere around the corner of this beloved almost forgotten "art d'usine" (factory art), cinema .... or tevision, if you prefer to name it that way, as it happens to be the actual original name for cinema around here, in this deserted planet with plastic flowers falling all around...
I don't ever remember seeing his wife in any episode only his dog, just loved that old car, ( was it a Peugeot ) it just seemed to suit him and his character . R.I.P.
the one meeting i always dreamed of, the meeting of monk and his distant cousin, columbo, somewhere around the corner of this beloved almost forgotten factory art, cinema (or tevision, if you prefer to name it that way, as it happens to be the actual original name for cinema ...)
Wonderful video! Very funny juxtaposition of the Felix and Oscar(The Odd Couple) styles . and the music was perfect! I appreciate the brilliance of this idea. Cudos!
In the beginning, Kate Mulgrew was supposed to be Mrs. Columbo, but there was a lot of complaint about Columbo's wife actually being shown, so later on in the 13 episode show, she supposedly divorced him, which was even more distasteful. Finally they made her Kate Callahan, with no connection to the lieutenant whatsoever. The show also went through several name changes, but it didn't improve the ratings. Just a mistake all the way around!
I love both of these characters. Columbo and Monk are my two favorite tv characters. Having said that, Monk would be useless together with Columbo. Monk would spend the entire case cleaning Columbo, because he is a slob. Therefore he couldn't concentrate on the case. Just like when the sanitation department went on strike.
@kerryoke68 i am sorry, but you are incorrect. she most definitely WAS intended to be portraying p. falk's "columbo" character's wife. i remember that show well.
THIS IS AWESOME 0 THANKS FOR THIS SHARING - I had to throw alway all my monk - cause I am the female columbo - drives Adrian to stare in the corner - so I says get two cabins -
anyhoo the drunk grandfather who always did Columbo impressions everytime - I mean every time and then the old soft shoe - had the Monk touching thing - had to touch every wall and knock his knuckle and - - - - - - I threw away my Columbo coat when I left Kenner - and my murdered husband - - - -- - - the murders that both Monk and Columbo want to solve - well he had the blah blah eye - only when he was angry - "holy spirit vexation" not annoyed or impassioned like God would take over his eye - his brothers named it the blah blah eye - but as honest and perceptive with the god eye as Columbo - but he wasn't messy - - - - that was me - and like Columbo you'd never know I had picked up all the clues and know the truth - but like Star _:i is a lawyer" so i know I have to credibly present it in court - and I can't - cause genuine truth is incredible to most lying human beings
This "teaser" isn't enough! We need to petition the "Monk" producers to write in the now-retired Lt. Columbo. But, would he still have the old car, the dog, and the raincoat? Legal problems can easily be overcome by greasing palms with cash.
@ArianaMESS Well I should mention the people who created "Mrs. Columbo" did want it to be a spin off but the originators of Columbo & Falk hated the idea. The show did so poorly that they wound up changing the name of the show and not implying that she was Mrs. Columbo. It never did well with any name. The funny thing is the producers of Columbo said if they had another Columbo show he would say "Have you heard of that woman claiming to know me?" hehe Thanks for this video. I wish they had met.
If you'd seen all these episodes I'm sure you'd appreciate the hilarious subtext. But since I guess most of you probably haven't, I might be the only one. xD
@ArianaMESS That Mrs. Columbo was not of any relation to this Columbo. You never see Columbo's wife. There are episodes where she is supposed to be present, ie, the cruise ship but you never see her. There are those who even speculated that she was something Columbo invented as another device, but the writers confirmed she did exist. We just never saw her. Columbo once claimed she was dieting and struggling with her weight....so there is a hint that Mrs. Columbo was a thick woman. haha
Well I was born in London, UK, and I have Polish television because my parents are Polish. I can speak Polish lol I dunno why I just typed that comment in English... but at least you get to practise English hehe. To moze powiem cos po Polsku. Czesc?

it would certainly be one of the greatest TV crossovers of all time to see these two team up
This is so cleaver. I love Monk & I love Colombo & they are here together, brilliant!

Great video thanks! It would be The Odd Couple all over again...
I LOVE COLUMBO AND MONK!!!!!

Monk WAS modelled after Columbo. Goes to show how popular Columbo was.
Cant say I agree with those top rated comments.
Yes Columbo does not have the defects Monk has, but Monk's reasoning ability far surpasses Columbo. His deductive powers rival or exceed Sherlock Holmes, and that is beyond what Columbo does.

I just threw Dick Tracey in there, thought he deserved a mention lol.
RIP Mr. Falk. Thank you for the years of great performance. many great memories here..

It seemed like so many Monk episodes were modeled after Columbo
Geniooo!!! Nunca pasa de moda Columbo es lo masss👏👏👏

well done on this, loved it
Tony Shalhoub says in a interview: When I was young, I really liked Columbo a lot. =)

Good point. 99.9% Of remakes are complete c*ap. Please please dont let them ever attempt it.
I don't ever remember seeing his wife in any episode only his dog, just loved that old car, ( was it a Peugeot ) it just seemed to suit him and his character . R.I.P.
Nicely done 👍🙏💕

Dammit, now I wish they'd really get Columbo on Monk. What a great episode that would make.
R.I.P Peter Falk
monk can do the thinking, columbo can do the dirty work... and we can bring in dexter to do the REALLY dirty work.
In the beginning, Kate Mulgrew was supposed to be Mrs. Columbo, but there was a lot of complaint about Columbo's wife actually being shown, so later on in the 13 episode show, she supposedly divorced him, which was even more distasteful. Monk and Columbo must team up to find the greatest serial killer of the 20th century in America. The Zodiac.
@kerryoke68 i am sorry, but you are incorrect. she most definitely WAS intended to be portraying p. falk's "columbo" character's wife. i remember that show well.
THIS IS AWESOME 0 THANKS FOR THIS SHARING - I had to throw alway all my monk - cause I am the female columbo - drives Adrian to stare in the corner - so I says get two cabins -
and I promised I would vet the four housekeepers I would hire - and they would get a cabin - only four days a week cause he will drive them crazy
like my dad - and his dad was obsessed and annoying with Columbo impressions - Monk is meaner than my dad - but my dad died young being so anal
anyhoo the drunk grandfather who always did Columbo impressions everytime - I mean every time and then the old soft shoe - had the Monk touching thing - had to touch every wall and knock his knuckle and - - - - - - I threw away my Columbo coat when I left Kenner - and my murdered husband - - - -- - - the murders that both Monk and Columbo want to solve - well he had the blah blah eye - only when he was angry - "holy spirit vexation" not annoyed or impassioned like God would take over his eye - his brothers named it the blah blah eye - but as honest and perceptive with the god eye as Columbo - but he wasn't messy - - - - that was me - and like Columbo you'd never know I had picked up all the clues and know the truth - but like Star _:i is a lawyer" so i know I have to credibly present it in court - and I can't - cause genuine truth is incredible to most lying human beings

excellent ending. columbo kicks monk's ass anyday
i seen most of these shows, columbo wins hands down
@ArianaMESS Well I should mention the people who created "Mrs. Columbo" did want it to be a spin off but the originators of Columbo & Falk hated the idea. well, this really something to c lol
monk is alright
@ArianaMESS That was a completely different Mrs. Columbo who is of no relation to Peter Falk's character.. You never see Columbo's wife.
nice work
respectful
@bbenjoe i was wondering what he s origin was for a longtime now thanks for the info i thougth he may have been greek
@ArianaMESS That Mrs. Columbo was not of any relation to this Columbo. You never see Columbo's wife. There are episodes where she is supposed to be present, ie, the cruise ship but you never see her. On TVN 7! Are you from Poland?
What kind of Wood doesn't float?
I want to watch full episode, don't upload clips anymore.
good job
How much did Monk pay for his shoes?
Surely Monk was inspired by Columbo? I like both shows, but i prefer Columbo.
Really? What channel?!?!?!!?!? And when etc.?!
@ArianaMESS i was joking lol monk and Marple aren't really similar but i like this video :)
um, you're incorrect on that one dear, It was the same Mrs Colombo, she drove the same car, the dog was in it too. I saw it first run, so i know.
Me gustaría ke las subieran en español no se ingles
Well I was born in London, UK, and I have Polish television because my parents are Polish. I can speak Polish lol I dunno why I just typed that comment in English... but at least you get to practise English hehe.
To moze powiem cos po Polsku. Czesc?
murder
ridiculous
yawn
