    When I was I was looking for a new used bike last year I had a few options in mind, among them Thruxton, Boneville, Street Triple, R6, Monster, and yes even an XB9. Did all the research I could to narrow that list down to just one bike and it was this no BS video that sold me on making up my mind on an XB9.
    After a year of owning, customizing, upgrading and maintaining my own 09 XB9SX I’ve rewatched this video again and still agree with everything he says about the bike.

    Sick review, man. I've never owned a Buell; but they really look like awesome motorcycles. I love the "form follows function" aspect of Buell's designs.

    Nice review. I can’t say these are the best bikes on the road but they’re different. People always asking me why they sound like Harley-Davidson (the ones that don’t have any bike knowledge), so I’ll inform them. I noticed these bikes when I was in Saudi Arabia while in the military and going through a used bike magazine. Back in 2000. I seen a motorcycle company called Buell, and plans on making an XB design bike. Back then we didn’t have the technology we have now. No internet. But my interest was high. Then when the internet boomed and I had service, I was looking up Buells for sale. Landed my first XB12R Firebolt in 2009. It’s an 06. I still have her and she’s my favorite out of all my Buells. You may see em on some of my videos on my breakdown and repairs. So, now I’m collecting these bikes. The older one that I have is a thunderbolt and is wonky and quirky but I have the first one from the assembly line from 1998. Then my 2002 cyclone, and a couple of blasts, and then my 2003 XB9R Firebolt and my 09’ 1125r. And a Harley-Davidson and my wife’s Honda rebel. But I do enjoy the Buells. They’re not the fastest bike on the planet, (not looking for that) but that 1125r isn’t a joke neither. 170 is my top speed so far. That my balls will let me handle! Yes I love speed but I’m still gifted with some brains, I think, lol. So i don’t push it too much, at 0300 on just a short 1 mile stretch just before a traffic light. Just enough to get the blood pumping and wake me up before I hit some traffic. I still need an x1 Lightning, s1 Lightning, basically same bike, slight differences in plastics, I also need an xb12s, xb9 CITYX, Ulysses, and maybe an rss12 westwind, ugly bike but I still want it. So, yeah, long story short, these are pretty cool bikes, different in almost every sense compared to most bikes.

    Hands down the best video on the Buell xb series. The reason I own one today and gave this bike consideration.. These bikes are very reliable with minimum maintenance no chain easy oil changes. Can run with any bike under 100mph handles like a surgeons knife thru traffic and list goes on. As Tom put it it's a gun in an elevator fight in traffic lol

    • @Gloomshadow100
      @Gloomshadow100 8 років тому

      ha ha close man, i said it was a bike built "For a gunfight in a telephone booth"... its the sawed-off, double barred shotgun of sportbikes, especially the 1203cc... its 100% close-combat on a tight twisty track! That what this little thing does.

      +J Villa people that ride buell blasts are some of the most dedicated motorcyclist in the world and I mean that. They take a lot of shit from other arrogant ass bikers shrug it off and keep on riding. Every blast rider I know is hands on do it yourself types that keeps their bikes running way longer than mechanically possible!!! So nothing but love and respect for you guys peace brother Paulk master

    • @MonzaRacer
      @MonzaRacer 7 років тому

      +Paulk Master well you kind of summed it up, I picked up my 06 Blast and no major issues for 20k+ miles. And my 500 cc Blast will out handle many other bikes. I was on local twisty country road and could eat a 650_GSXR the rider caught me on straights but even just a Blast made that guy rethink his new wife's first bike! He asked for walk around and short ride. His grin was priceless. He asked about power and when I told him stock was 37 he just dead panned. He said he was impressed with it. I reminded him it's a Harley sportster with on less cyl. All tq. He said it sure made him grin, then proceeded to show me knee scuffs where he played it on pegs(everyone can do that with Blast). We shook hands and I saw him last year and him and wife and son had tricked out Blasts for their group ride. He came up and shook my hand, introduced me to his family. His wife hugged me and thanked me for letting him try it. She was on second bike as first got damaged(became parts bike for sons) Guy in dually backed over her first one, ripped trailing arms out of gear case. boy bought low miles engine,trailing arm off eBay and rebuilt bike! Other than minor tweaks no major issues.

      I personally prefer the 984R motor for personal use but definitely appreciate the 1203 grunt in the longer Uly for passengers and luggage.

    Ive had 2 xb9 lightnings n just got an 09 xb12s fun bikes to ride especially in the mountains. handling is awesome as well as brakes. pile of torque barely downshifting still has power. best bang for the buck in a streetfighter bike n up until these i had 900s or 1000 sport bikes. Doesnt have much past 110 but great in town as well n sound badass with good exhuast. 08 up has updated fuel injection, oiling n cooling 47mm forks. 05-07 43mm forks. 03-04 41mm i believe. Funnest bike to ride on curvey tight roads.

      I know I gave you a lot of flak in the past Zone, but pull the trigger on one of these.. you will be back with an entirely different philosophy about riding. the XB- "anything" -S has such a confidence inspiring chassis and feel to it that it transforms "average riders" into "excellent riders" in a few weeks.. but you don't want to fuck with the R on the street.. I have both and I would choose a S any day over an R. here read this..

I ended up getting a big vstar I had wanted from a friend for years. Not sure which would be better for my back, but the big twin is a bit of a bitch to move in and out of the shed. yeah I love em. You just have to know what they are good at and not good at. The focus from day one was STREET, not track. You can throw a XB across traffic faster than just about anything. All that torque (especially with the 1203's) just slugs it off the bottom like a tractor.Turns on a dime. Feels like a 250 with a big twin stuffed into it. At 120 it feels hairy like a little clown bike. At 140 you hit the end of it.,no more but you don't want any more. Handling is superb and I mean SUPURB!!

    yeah I got a Road 2 front that is still like new, I wonder if I can get away with just running Pilot Power 3 on the rear until that front goes out? The profile I think would work together. I ride a lot but its short intense hops around towns and back roads, I need more stick that most other guys, XBs have 52" wheelbases.. not very forgiving, and suspension settings have to be by the book for your weight or youre asking for trouble.

      Justforkicks ..i am the guy in the video..ah NO this bike is not friendly to beginners, lots of tourqe and a very short wheelbase. .l lots of vibration and feedback, usually intimidating for a new rider. ... mean, very mean. Not fast but quick and strong from a standstill up to about 100mph. .. youre better off doing about a year on somthing like a small bore to mid bore twin like a cb500 or maybe fz07

      its not just Mustang parts its just that the stuff like fuel pumps and sensors used in the XB were also used in a bunch of cars.. just go on the Buell forums or google up the part numbers for what you need and you will probably be able to get it at autozone,

    Got myself an xb9sx with jardine gp1 muffler on it and it backfires like crazy just idling. It didn't do this at the dealer I purchased from (of course). Gonna try tps reset, extracting fuel, replace with fresh and maybe seafoam and possibly change plugs. Also ordered buelltooth device because my thoughts are that it was never tuned. Also I'm looking for a stock muffler to be modified by hawk. I'm totally new to buells. Any advice on this issue?

    My SV 650 walked my friends M2 Cyclone every time, it ran bar ro bar with the xb12 no problem. Some of that was rider mod, but I always wanted that way down low torque.

    What year is this bike? Did you tune the ECM to that Jardine exhaust ?

    • @Gloomshadow100
      @Gloomshadow100 9 років тому

      this one is 2007, the ECM was flashed to the "race program" works great... you can run the Jardine on stock programming if you put the "quiet core" in the exhaust tip to get some more back pressure.

    • @causeXeffect23
      @causeXeffect23 9 років тому

      Gloomshadow100 Ah, cool! I own a 2009 Lightning xb9sx and I was having trouble finding a new ecm to tune the bike with. Hawk performance exhaust is modifying my existing muffler to run with the standard ecm so I'm all set!

    • @Gloomshadow100
      @Gloomshadow100 9 років тому +1

      Froschy Frog you don't need another ecm, you just buy the "buell xb ecmspy cable" and download the free program... then you get the race map off the internet and flash it to your existing ECM, takes 5 min.

    Havin an xb12 and this xb9 what is the power difference in ur opinion? Since i was 16 ive had 3 harleys from warmed over iron heads to a hopped up shovehead ive sold them all off and now Im seriously thinking about picking up a XB but im thinking i shud get a 12 because im 6'1" 220 and i want something that has some umph and ive heard theres a very noticable difference in power...? i also wondering if i should only consider a the SS model where its slightly longer version because the XBs do seem really stubby...never seen or sat on a KB so im curious if i would look like im riding a tiny bike.

    • @Gloomshadow100
      @Gloomshadow100 5 років тому

      The 12 has alot more low end torque, its about as fast as a averge 600 but stoplight to stoplight its quick, about as quick as a hayabusa for about 1/8th of a mile, its alot of uummph right off the bottom. This is me in the video

    I have an R6, I am looking at an xb9s, and a xb12s for my next bike. I really like the street fighter style, and love the vtwin rumble and torque. Which bike should be better, the xb9, or xb12? I do mostly city driving with the occasional highway ride. Another thing is I'm 6 foot 4 230lbs, will it look like a pit bike? Thanks in advance for the advice.

    • @OurGothicOrlando
      @OurGothicOrlando  9 років тому

      yeah at 6'4" its going to be a like a pit bike.. you may want to look at the XB12SS, its a slightly longer frame and swing arm. I have ridden that one also and its real , REAL close to the normal "S" model like I am showing you here. The 12 is more long-legged and powerful feeling. The 9 is real close to the 12 on the 1/4 mile stock to stock but its mostly gearing doing that. You can get the 12 and put XB9 Primary gears into it and lower the gear ratio on the 12 and its a fucking BEAST. Get ready to burn through some rear tires though.

    • @DanielRodriguez-wp4fo
      @DanielRodriguez-wp4fo 9 років тому +1

      Thanks man! I saw a xb12 turbo in youtube, hauls ass! Definitely will take your advice. I wonder if they make extended swing arms ...

    • @OurGothicOrlando
      @OurGothicOrlando  9 років тому +2

      Daniel Rodriguez yeah that's my friends XB.. forget it.. hes got 40 grand into that bike. The SS or X swingarm is the only extended swingarm they make for it.. just get the SS or a S with a SS swingarm.. swingarms are cheap used but the SS swingarm uses a longer drive belt.

I've been reading up on these bikes and only thing holding me back is knowing there isn't a dedicated dealer for these bikes. ive watched your vids and it seems like to own this bike you're gonna have to really get to know your bike not just riding wise but mechanically. which I'm ok with changing tires an oil but real mechanic work id like to leave it to a Professional.....if i had your knowledge on this bike I'd buy.
