  • Brett Deutsch, wowing the crowd with 4 wild passes, with his first pass shattering his own personal best and world class record of 8.62@161.25mph with a 8.55@161.67mph in his Triple Turbo '05 Duramax diesel engine powered '69 Chevy C10 pickup at Byron Dragway's Diesel Truck Blackout Drag Day 11-1-15
    In Brett's own words...My grandpa gave me the truck when I was 15 years old. My dad (Don) and I took the whole truck apart and sandblasted everything. We did all the body work that needed to be done and my dad painted it for me. That was 16 years ago and the truck still has the same paint job on it. We put a tune port fuel injected motor in the truck when I first got the truck. I spent the next ten years putting different sbc engines in it. The last gas engine I had in the truck was a supercharged fuel injected 383 stoker motor. I had always wanted to install a diesel in the truck because that's what I do for a living. I'm a diesel mechanic. So in 2009 I found a Workhorse bus that was a rolling chassis with the Duramax engine and Allison transmission in it. I bought the bus and started fitting everything into my truck. We got the truck running in 2010 and added a Danville Performance ( DP) VGT 68mm turbo and DP EfiLive tuning. The truck ran and drove great. I was able to run a 11.0 in the 1/4mile. Over the winter of 2011 I made a twin turbo system for the truck. Still with the stock engine I was able to run a 10.6 in the 1/4 mile. Later that year I ended up bending all 8 connecting rods. In 2012 I went to DP and we built a new motor using better connecting rod and pistons. I was able to run a best of 9.4 in the 1/4 mile. In 2013 we added a little more power to the engine and was able to run a 9.2. At the end of the season in 2013 we decided we wanted to start racing in the ProStreet class for the NHRDA. So we built a new motor and had HSP Diesel fab up a triple turbo kit for the truck. The engine has Wagler Competition cylinder heads, Bullseye Power turbochargers, Danville Performance built motor and a Rossler turbo 400 transmission with a Neal Chance Racing Converters torque converter. We only made it to a couple races this year but we qualified to race at the world finals for the NHRDA in Ennis TX. We ended up winning the World Finals and setting a new prostreet world record with a 8.810 @ 158mph. The best part of this truck is I still drive it on the street and it even has A/C.

    even the trans and rear brakes cant hold it haha

      he's probably loading up the drivetrain as lightly as he could so it doesn't more or less explode on launch

    • @mytmousemalibu
      @mytmousemalibu 8 років тому +1

      If you mean the launch... Thats the driver blipping the trans brake to roll into the beams/photocells to trigger the lights. It's nothing unusual for drag vehicles using automatics or converter drive setups. All it is essentially is a solinoid valve that diverts fluid internally that allows you to put a load on the engine against the torque converter but first gear and reverse are both engaged "locking up" the transmission. Letting off the trans brake button is dumping the reverse gear and the trans is then unlocked, power goes to the wheels. That is the violent tire slip when it's spooled up as it rolls forward to stage the truck. He's blipping on-off that button.

      Thats called a bumpbox, allows to stay in boost while controlling the transbrak

    there a build thread on this truck?

    what size shot of fog? just figuring theirs spray since the smoke clears up so well. if their was water/meth injection you would have white smoke after letting off right? lol please correct me if im wrong. beautiful truck tho!

    • @mytmousemalibu
      @mytmousemalibu 8 років тому

      Dunno if this truck has spray but the meth/water= smoke... not necessarily. If there is still a significant amount of water being ingested on shutdown it can cause smoke from "putting the fire out" so to speak. Unburned diesel and so an extent, oil pulled in can cause white smoke. Letting off at the top end with a common rail like this truck, it's probably getting very little fuel, maybe none coasting down. Depends on the tune. No fuel, probably very little or no smoke with or without water inj. Smoke or lack of isn't a great indicator really. At one time on my dmax I had forgot to turn my meth/water off in the morning, it was cool out and the truck wasn't warmed up. I had left the controller set start injection at like 10psi boost or something like that and it was at a high ramp rate. Water came on and the truck started missing and stumbling and blowing lots of white smoke and I quickly realized what was going on. Not an issue once the engine had some temperature in it.

      Dmax is built here in the US. It was co-designed with Isuzu, which is a GM company, to assist in their first US common rail diesel. Isuzu had common rail for quite a while beforehand. Wouldn't it seem wise to seek design & engineering from a successful CRD builder that is a subsidiary of your own company? That engine is wholly a US built engine by it's own brand. That last solid Ford diesel was the 7.3 which wasn't Fords. Dodge outsourced their engines too. The Duramax is more true to it's roots than the competition and they have been pretty damn solid engines since day one.

      All that smoke is just carbon that falls back to earth and decomposes harmlessly. Ever been in an underground mine? I can say I have, a salt mine, everything is diesel or electric. Diesel exhaust is breathable unlike a gas engine.
      Bad for the environment... all the prius batteries and other so called "eco" shit after it dies. It's also hard on the environment to make those damn things yet every tree hugging bush humper thinks of a prius as some kind of savoir.... Ironic huh.
      If it don't clack, take it back!
