Oh Rhonda… that is so true… love that you said it … you know the song ‘I put a spell on you!’ I swear it did do that… I knew it wasn’t my style, I knew my butt was too small, I knew but did I listen - nahhhh. I was like a cartoon animal that can smell the food cooling on the windowsill - and I floated towards it!!! Even though I knew I was gonna get caught 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well I’m outta that dream state now, reality has hit like a rock and I’m saying NO to clothes that don’t deserve me !!!

Wear it open with a bright top underneath. I do like the pattern but would size down at the shoulders for me and do it in a print with short sleeves. Four d your channel through the collar with Ruan. I’m in NZ and I like channels from down under.

I love the color and the fabric, but I think you’re right. It hides your shape and overwhelms you. Before you give it away though, think about cutting it off to more of a shirt length… and maybe add fish-eye darts to bring it in a bit. Good luck!

Hi, StaceyJ, just left Ruan’s video and came to see your make. I have fallen in love with the Palmer Dress but still had a similar result as yours. I’ve worn mine several times but I feel overwhelmed in it depending on the day. I was afraid to try the style you made because I have a pear-shape and those raglan sleeves never work for me. Your dress should match your style but the color is nice on you! You encouraged me to try SA patterns after seeing your other makes and I’m a convert but I need to choose my size more wisely. Thank you for sharing this make it may not be for me but I just may give it a go just to see. ❤❤❤🧵🪡✂️👗🙂

      Morning Brenda,
Thank you so much for coming over. With Ruans lovely long body, she can really rock that Palmer Dress eh… me again high waisted and small butt-asouros I look 📦
The Palmer is also straight with the slight flare after the waist…. You might have made a size too large.
Yes… you always need to follow your style with the clothes you wear. When I selected that dress to make I was identifying at a 6ft slim model… unfortunately reality and dream state don’t met for me 🤣🤣
Please don’t discount Style Arc… I’m glad Ruan got a challenge to make one.

You can use it as a duster? I think maybe it would be better in a drapier fabric? Its also a little too big for you. I have problems with the raglan sleeves, it does not suite me. Made the hope dress, and gave it away.

    • @StaceyJsStudio
      @StaceyJsStudio  2 місяці тому

Hi…. Duster as in a cleaner … 🤣🤣. I love it. Might use the flesh of the dress ti make a hat.
I think a chiffon on my body would be much much better.
The shoulders and bust fit … the rest just hangs with yards of fabric. My mum has made the Hope Dress a couple of times. I personally am not a Hope Dress girl either. I made the Sydney and handed that over to my bestie. Oh well eh! It’s only fabric 😜 and I have a load of it. The Fernbird it the only dress I’ve found I like that doesn’t have a waistband

First thing I have learnt is that’s it’s not us sensei, it’s the clothes. Belted is better but neither is really you. Even the colour doesn’t bring that flamazing glow to your face like the embrace me cardi from PE. And your mum is right, SA should be giving you an ambassadorial role, you give them so much love to us all. I even have a couple of their patterns now (note to self, make one!!)! Also sometimes when you have an itch to try a particular pattern you just have to go down that rabbit hole. And definitely lab coat vibes! I think a palette cleanser make would be great next sew… how about a dodo?!🤣. Have a flamazing tomorrow and weekend sensei and see you soon, PS hand surgery for left hand now booked in for August 2nd. Will be trying to get another couple of makes done in the meantime😱🦤🦩🧡🦗

What a nice make. It is a lot of fabric around your small frame. As a dress, nope too much fabric, and too closed up.The duster idea will work. Play with the sleeves as well. My Sis is petite n busty n we play with her necklines, an exposure level comfortable to her, length n volume of garment, and the sleeves. With my Sis, more skin makes her look taller than she is. Sis is 5' 1". I am 6' and yes we have same Mom n Dad..oh we questioned that for sure 😊. But back to the subject. Also the dress/duster could use side slits as well. That would allow more of your body, with jeans or skirt, to show. I would opt for strappy shoes with more foot showing , elongating the leg. I know for me, once I have put a "negative" like "dowdy" out in the universe, it is hard to see things differently. Hopefully you get use from the garment. If not it finds a loving home. 😊 happy sewing

    • @StaceyJsStudio
      @StaceyJsStudio  2 місяці тому

Exactly, as I said in the vlog more skin less looking like a piece of fabric!! Will the bust being 110… I definitely agree more flesh This bull looking. I knew it wasn’t my style but I really like the look of it and there was a small part of me that thought it might be okay so you know when you decide just to do something just to see and if it doesn’t work, it takes that out of your brain of what if - what if - what if, that’s what Dress was.
I should have stuck with my original style arch dress I was going to make but I already had that pattern and thought that I might as well give it a burl….
I understand the height differences within a family… my eldest is 6’2 and his brother has reached about 6’. Their father was 6 foot. But with my youngest passing Mr. Christopher he is just shy 6 foot. My daughter is my height and I was the shortest in my family at 5’5 1/2”. That half counts 🤣🤣
It’s gonna be a give away for sure or a bin.
I have a place I sent my fabrics that are trimmed off for scraps and might end up in there so the kids can play with it when they are doing something
      Thanks for watching 🥰

Unfortunately this kind of dress doesn’t suit anyone who is far from an hourglass shape. I’m pear shaped and it wouldn’t suit me any more than it does you. Shame cos I love the idea of it and find the shirt ends at the bottom really cute. Ruan looks good in a very similar dress but she’s a lot closer to the traditional hourglass shape. A few years back I signed up for a course that would recommend clothes based on my body type and that really helped me understand and accept the figure I have and stop trying to have someone else’s body. I wished I’d done something like that in my teens as it would have saved me a lot o heartache and a lot of money! Great to see a video talking about this issue.

      Hi Hope,
Exactly…. I knew it wasn’t gonna suit me, and the itch is scratched.
I did a few Sunday Sitdowns on body types etc. I learn in my teens about clothing my friends could wear and I couldn’t.
As I sew for a living, I have to steer
My clients away from some looks… but explain it to them.
And now the itch is scratched I can move away from it - miles and miles away 🤣🤣🤣🤣
About 15 years ago, a friend tried to get me to try on a full skirt from the waist… I tried to tell her it wouldn’t suit me… I had to put it on to prove to her they didn’t suit me 🤣🤣
Thanks for watching and commenting. I truly appreciate it 🦩💓💖💕💖🦩🦩

I had a funny feeling that the dress wouldn't suit me, because of the style... and at 67 you are allowed to stylish... its what gives us a boost, looking at ourselves and being happy with the reflection... bonus for mum though as she got the dress.... I have made the Anais dress twice and wear one with a belt that is out of stiffer fabric, and one out of softer fabric without. I shortened the dress significantly, as I am short but also made the back and front the same length. I also found the shoulders stick out a bit funny - but I do have broad shoulders. However, after saying all that, I do like the dresses. I do agree that yours does give off lab coat vibes. I think the fabric is what is turning you off the pattern.

    • @StaceyJsStudio
      @StaceyJsStudio  2 місяці тому +1

Hi Stacy, I love the Anais dress but my body doesn’t like the Anais dress … I knew it wouldn’t … I have a large bust and no hips, and to add to it my waist is under my bust almost immediately! I am so genetically made it isn’t funny. My mum was big busted. High waisted small bottomed. My father long bodied no bottom so there wasn’t much of a chance for me to get a booty so I have to use it to my advantage and there are a lot of my clients that come to me with exactly the same body shape and I’m lucky I can really understand the woos and work with them. So it’s kind of wanted to make the dress. Didn’t think the dress is gonna suit me. That’s proof that it hasn’t and definitely definitely know now I can step back from the pattern and stop wondering. When I was in the Air Force in Australia, our frocks that came out were belted and we could wear the belt or we could go without the belt. I didn’t with the belt but the dress was fitting (1940’s style)which actually super super (in my youth) suited me.
I’m not upset that it didn’t suit me because it gave me clarity on a pattern that now all gift to somebody else.
It was a fabric I saw in Lincraft yesterday quite sheer fabric that might be nice for that but at the end of the day I made it as a winter dress to keep me warm because I don’t wear dresses a winter and I want to try to start but C’est la vie
Thank you so much for checking in and watching. It’s nice to have Stacy on the channel and I will hope you have subscribed and will keep watching.

A beautiful make but I agree it has issues not relating to your sewing. I think it’s too big on the lower half, maybe also too long? I liked it with the elastic belt but think it’s too wide to work well with your waist as it looks like it sitting high due to the width of the belt. I think the colour is beautiful but maybe makes it look like a nightdress? I think I would be tempted to shorten it to tunic or even shirt length, it’s too good a make not to try and turn it into something you would be more comfortable in.

Hi Stacey, you wanted me to be honest, it’s not the shape for you, I think it is designed for a pear shaped person, you (like me) are the opposite to that shape. I have looked at that pattern before because I love a raglan sleeve, but the shape from the waist down is too wide for an inverted V shape. I think dowdy is the right word, you usually look so cool, I’d be giving it away you have so many better styles for your body shape, such a shame when you put work into it, but we all live and learn. I need to cull my wardrobe again before I pack, so I’m not keeping anything I won’t reach for, it’s just a waste of space, have a great sewing week, Deb

Lab coat is exactly what that dress is on you. The cardigan at the end has an interesting shape, and is lovely worn open. The dress is better open, but doesn't have much movement. Maybe in a floatier fabric? It's better belted, but the fabric doesn't seem to like being belted, and looks bunchy. And, honestly, you're so dissatisfied with it, I'm not sure you'd see it much differently, even if you got lots of comments saying it's great. You just don't feel great in it. I, too, have a larger bust. I tend to stay away from raglans because a FBA that is effective is just hardly ever successful. I also find that anything that “tents” off the girls is never a good look. I can remember when I first saw your Fernbird and knew immediately that it was perfect for you. (I still have that one on my list). This is just not your dress. There is absolutely no one who can successfully wear all the styles. They are designed for different bodies and a perfect body does not exist. (Though many of us keep thinking that might be true if we were just a little more or less this or that) This one might look ok on a tall, leggy, straight (smaller busted) figure but I’d need to see that to be sure.
This pattern is just not worth the effort. By the time you got it to suit you and me it wouldn’t be the same pattern anymore. Too many beautiful Style Arc’s for you to bother with this one.

Perfectly said and yes yes. I was surprised about the fernbird because of the hanging from the bust. And was pleasantly surprised. Yet this, as much as I wanted it to be my thang was far from it. It is quite roomy-if you wear it over jeans and a top-it's still very big. Could you shorten it or maybe you don't care to mess with it anymore🤷‍♀️.

I am totally happy I made the dress. I really wanted to get the dress made… it was dancing in my head… made now and happy to fix the ‘should I make it’ thoughts.

There seems to be way too much fabric in front from waist down.
    Looked better as a coat.

Not the dress for you IMO. Colour ok. Fabric too stiff to suit you. Maybe if done in a floatier fabric it might be ok. Thanks for the video, I learned lots. 🤗

It seems altogether too large, and you are a different shape, as you said. You need to emphasise your narrower hips and your feminine bust line. Love to see something else, love from Victoria.😊

I know I know.... but you know when you see a pattern, and you think... maybe this is gonna look different to me ... but hey... the next one will be one that fits the bill... I should have made the one I want, but just wanted to sneak in the Anais to trial it... the other one is in my list of Make 9 for this year... 🦩🦩💗💗🩷🩷🦩🦩

I was so disappointed for you in making the Anais.. With respect I think you used the wrong fabric, it looked to thick, colour was flat.. your dress look more like a shacket or a topper.. Stacey, I know you over it but could I suggest you go and check out Cloth Edit youtube channel, Gabrielle made the Anais twice and she rocks it. Her sisterhood might not be a big as yours (F cuppers) but it looks like hers are quite impressive too.. (sorry Gabrielle if wrong). Gabrielle Anais is more fitted around the shoulders and boobies. Yours seem too big ..
No offence meant but maybe something went wrong in the translation as they say.. love and respect always to you Stacey..

    • @StaceyJsStudio

Kerry, firstly NOT OFFENDED babe, my body shape is not made for that style, especially when my butt is small. I watched Gabrielle vlog early this year on it. Unfortunately Gabrielle has more of a bootie than me … giving her more of a waist. My Anais would have to drop a few sizes under the bust to shape for me better. Then it would loose its shape.
      Fabric understandingly was wrong.
I was living a dream in hope that for some reason this dress would suit me - in my head I knew other wise.
Didn’t help that I had actually lost a little bit of weight (shhh keep that under your cap)
But honestly I’m good. I just wanted to see if i could wear it. No harm no foul!
Thank you for your lovely comment 🥰

You did hit the nail on the head, lab coat it is! You need something shaped inwards below your waste, you have lovely slim legs and this pattern does nothing to accentuate this part of your body. I like the colour but feel it’s a little too light with your blonde hair. Also the collar makes the top a little old fashioned looking. Belting it for me would be a no no. Sorry.
