Doing a clutch fan install right now on my 04.5 Cummins. I’d highly recommend to add the torque specs for the 6 13mm bolts that bolt the fan to clutch fan motor. Great video.
I have a 07 when I get over 60 it starts to run hot but if I slow down to 55 to 60 it goes back to normal I put a new fan clutch a new thermostat and a new thermostat sensor and it still does the same thing
Just a heads up for any 2003 owner. My fan shroud was/is nothing like the one he removed. Also our overflow bottle has to come out as well as the upper radiator hose. Oh and our shroud has no bolts on the bottom even on the wiring. I just did the conversion to a Powerstroke fan clutch
You don't have to do all of that for 03's and early 2004's I always do these from the bottom. The shroud splits by removing the two plastic/retainer screws on the bottom part of the shroud, you will see one about 7-8 o'clock and the other around 4-5 o'clock if you are on your back under the truck facing the radiator. I always do these trucks from the bottom its way easier on 4x4's, might have to jack the front end up a bit on a 2wd to get the blades of the fan to clear. Anyway here's how I do it. Step 0: Remember its a 3rd gen... this is a counter-clockwise nut on the Clutch Fan (Not Reverse thread like the 1st and 2nd gens) lefty loosey righty tighty... Step 1: You start by taking the two plastic screws retainers out in the bottom piece of the shroud, then disconnect your plug (remember the plug has the red slider you have to open before you can press the plug and disconnect it) Step 2: Go back up top, take off your airbox (air box is easy to remove, pop the top, take the one nut off the front and then you can pull it up and out) that will give you access to the left bolt, then take off the right bolt (right by radiator hose) Step 3: Now you can go back on the bottom and push up on the shroud just enough to get it to get the seating tabs to clear allowing you to pull the bottom piece out Step 4: Pull the bottom shroud piece out and, allowing you access and pull the fan and clutch down. Step 5: Pull fan and clutch down, replace clutch fan, reverse process (fan bolts torque to 15lbs) Step 6: Scan your truck, make sure code is gone, if you don't have a fancy scanner, go to O'Reilley's or w/e and borrow a scanner. You have to PUT the scanner in Dodge OEM mode, not the default OBD2 mode. Play around with the settings or just google the scanner make/model on how to do it. Otherwise you will not get a code. Best of luck!
I actually went ahead and replaced it with an oe one because I was having a cooling issue and turned out to be a water pump which may have been because of the fan clutch
@@curbsidemechanics3040 where did you get your water pump and how much did you pay for it I am looking to change my water pump also and how long has it been since you installed the pump how's your water pump doing today let us know thank you

I am actually getting ready to replace mine on my 09 Cummins. Just curious you think it would be any easier to lift the shroud and fan clutch out at the same time once it’s all loose cuz I am probably going to break my fan trying to get the shroud out
Different ways like a lot of temperature fluctuation can mean that and also the trouble codes are a great place to start. Do you have reason to believe yours is going out?
Im having so many problems with getting my fan clutch off on my 04.5 cummins been trying for 9 hours and still wont budge the pulley keeps spinning no matter what i try
36mm wrench Hub is m30x1.5 rh 3rd gens can convert too 99 dodge v10 fan clutch and 2001 7.3 Ford fan blade $100 instead of $600 No electronics thermal lock More noise always cool
If you remove a bolt out of the pulley and a couple from the fan you can fit a normal cresent wrench between the pulley and clutch assembly . The limited space between the two is why the special wrench is skinny , but removing a couple bolts gives enough room for normal tools .
There's a couple of ways of determining which you have. 1. The 8th digit of the vin if its a 6 it's a standard output with is a 2004 and if it's a C then it's a high output which is 2004.5. 2. There is tag on the top left side of the motor (drivers side), if it says 325HP that should be the 2004.5. If its 305HP it's a 2004.

your camera man filmed you more than the fan clutch area. Fired! Camera man lol

Does the manual ford clutch work better than the dodge clutch? I’ve looked at going this way a few times my self..

I dont see why you couldn't just might be a little awkward but honestly the whole thing is!
What made you determine you needed this part? Running Hot at traffic light?
Well first was the code and also I could completely stop it with my hand while idling.
how can you tell if the fan clutch is going out?? especially on a diesel truck.?

Thank you for the information
Why not say what size wrench and tool to remove fan hub from engine
36mm wrench
Hub is m30x1.5 rh
3rd gens can convert too
99 dodge v10 fan clutch and 2001 7.3 Ford fan blade
$100 instead of $600
No electronics thermal lock
More noise always cool
What was that red handle too the camera used when u used the 36mm wrench I wanna buy one

Yes! Might as well be
Just a word of advice. Never by CHEAP parts for your Cummins engine. You will be sorry in long run!
Alot easier to do with a snap-on that uses a air hammer
dodge Cummins is 2004 or 2004.5 . how do I know which one ? I own this truck since 2007. thanks

My 3500 does not blow air into the engine sometimes. Overheating pulling loads of uphill. Any ideas ?
Are you throwing any codes?
@@curbsidemechanics3040 mine does the same but no codes
no codes on mine either and on idle or very hot days run over 210 degrees and back to 190
