- Actor-director Kevin Costner won two Academy Awards for "Dances with Wolves," and now he's back with another western: "Horizon: An American Saga," a four-part epic about pioneers settling the West, which Costner himself helped bankroll. He talks with correspondent Tracy Smith about his decades-in-the-planning story (the first two chapters debut in theaters this summer), and about his future on the modern-day western series "Yellowstone."

Truly the last of old school director and old school westerns. I appreciate Mr. Costner's love of great cinema. Telling the audience a great authentic story. Many in power in Hollywood should take notice and maybe listen well.
Thank you Mr. Costner...cannot wait to see all four parts of Horizon.
What??? 😅
You really mean Stephen Spielberg. Spielberg is 78, btw.

I was an actor in American Flyers and worked with Kevin, he was boss we played wiffle ball under a big willow tree on a farm outside St Louis. He is one cool cat.
Yellowstone is nothing without Kosner..and that's not being a narcissist... that's being damn Great Actor, director and producer...
ABSOLUTELY!
Definitely looking forward to seeing HORIZON in the theater! Quality man and human. If I was a billionaire I’d definitely go fishing with him.
Be broke and he’ll want to fish w you. Just let him know God sent you to him.
Kevin Costner's one of the best actors and directors in the movie business.
Agreed 💯
@@williamdillard5060 Waterworld and The Postman didn't do his reputation good.
@@bigverybadtom No, but if you do enough and a lot of variety, a few or some aren't gonna be that good. At least he hasn't done the laziest make the most money you can with sequels etc. or a lot of mindless over the top violence. like many other very good Actors-Denzel Washington and Matt Damon come to mind.Open Range, Dances With Wolves, Perfect World,No Way Out, JFK, 13 Days, are great in my book.
@@bigverybadtom I actually loved those movies! So I guess it's in the eye of the watcher.
@@JaimieJo It's a case of whether enough people like them.
It is unusual (and refreshing) to have someone so dedicated to their creative dream that they designate themselves the primary resource that makes it come true. In Costner's case this is nothing new -- I remember how he bought "Dances with Wolves" to life. It still is one of my favorite movies.
He is the embodiment of a hard working dreamer.
So as Denzel, Sly & Martin Lawrence

love his movies. can’t wait to see these in the theater.
Major respect for this man with a vision and who’s following that dream, regardless of come what may! Blessings, sir!

@KevinCostner-lu7eu merci mon cher❤️toujours a votre service❤️
One of my favorite actors 💗
Bulldog Pride here! He went to my high school in Ventura California. Kudos Kev.
They don’t make movie stars like Kevin Costner any more. Appreciate his work.
He became more of a TV star through Yellowstone.
@@yvonneplant9434 Think he brought his movie star traits to television and elevated the platform. Paramount owes him so much for helping them.
@yvonneplant943 he's too good for tv
Congratulations on Horizon. Our household will be there for all four movies. Wishing you and your family blessings and continued success..
It's nice to see that we're going to have good movies back in the theaters again.
I honestly can't wait. He has not been in or made anything I didn't like. Besides the fact that he is one of my all time favorite actors, he a great human being. I think he would rather hear that then what an awesome actor he is. Can't wait to see this !
Lonesome Dove was the best multi part series I saw. I hope this lives up to the hype.
1883 is up there...
I'm thinking 🤔 the same.
I love lonesome dove too.
Ohh this will be much much better !!!!
@@CrabFilesit sure is !
I think you really roll the dice when bringing a western to movie theaters.
Westerns have always brought my father and I together. Grateful to Kevin Costner for bringing his vision to the Silver Screen. He’s never let us down with his westerns. Looking forward to seeing all four movies of “Horizon: An American Saga.”🍿🥤
Here's hoping that this turns out to be another worthy telling of our western mythos - like Lonesome Dove or Dances with Wolves. I'm pulling for you, Kevin.
All four 2-hour movie chapters will be shown in movie theaters, and then there will be a bidding war to air them as eight 1-hour episodes on one of the streaming services. Kevin will be fine!
He's a true gentleman and I know it first hand from people that knew him in Pasadena.
Good interview and his humor is appreciated. Can’t wait to see this epic saga! 🎉
@KevinCostner-lu7eu
At home
Love myself some Kevin Costner, and he still is so Handsome. 😍❤
No kidding!! I hear ya...
I hope you two ladies put your money where your crushes are and BUY TICKETS to see his movie!😊
@@JamesClark-lw6swthis one's going to!
What a great guy! I can't wait to see these movies!
I can’t wait either.
Definitely going to see this opening weekend
I look forward to seeing the Horizon film series. It will be great to see an epic western on the big screen again.
Lol
Best of luck to Mr. Costner. I've always enjoyed his works. To quote him from another interview that I thought was very profound: "We don't have to win in order to be respected. We just have to be true to ourselves."
Well, I’m gonna show up in the cinema for sure!
Most rich people stay rich by spending like the poor and investing without stopping then most poor people stay poor by spending like the rich yet not investing like the rich but impressing them
Exactly! My grandparents were so frugal but they had a TON of money on both sides. I remember my grandfather telling me "you want to make money while you sleep." And I guess that attitude passed down to my dad (RIP), because I remember going to his house one day and I had bought something I really liked, so I wanted to show it to him. So I said "Look at this!
Isn't it cute? It was on sale...I saved 50%!" My dad replied "Well, if you're spending, you're not saving." Obviously I had no retort, and that has always stuck with me.
Saving and investing wisely while prioritizing necessities and a few small luxuries in relation to one's total assets is a great approach. It helps ensure financial stability and I my for the enjoyment of life's little pleasures without compromising long-term financial goals. It's all about finding a balance that works for you!
very true, a huge part of my portfolio growth has come during this bear market. I've been able to scale from $180K to $572K in a short period of time.
How do you do that? I'm interested
Thanks to my co-worker (Alex) who suggested
Mr Stephen Milne Ebert.
Excited for this film, so happy there are Producers/Actors like Kevin Costner.
I can hardly wait to see this epic masterpiece! Kevin Costner always brings his best to the screen!
Love Kevin! so humble and kind! still gorgeous!
He's none of those things
Never seen any of his movies, but really like him, & like him even more now that I watched this interview.
Watching clips of a western drama, I cannot get past how pristine the costumes are.
You really need to make time to see his movies.
Watch Dances with Wolves
Make sure you watch ‘ Dances with Wolves’.
Dances with Wolves is an epic masterpiece!
He's as handsome as ever!
I cannot wait to HORIZON.Looks really good.Kevin Costner is in it!
Best actor of all time
😂😂😂 Not even close. 😅
Dude makes great movies his way. Support him.
I wish him well & I do hope this project of his succeeds. I think after the tumultuous time he’s had within his personal life he deserves some good news.
Yellowstone won’t be the same without him.
One of the last great Legends who has captured the great western frontier like no other, and perhaps this is the last great true western saga that will ever be made again by the only man who can make it because he always believed, " build it and they will come....." Thanks Kevin for all the years of adventure you created on the big screen for us, the fans.....the people......
He came to a little section of Newark and gave a eulogy at Whitney Houston 's funeral.
Was this the day he gave the eulogy?
Respect! ♥️
I’m a big fan since waaaay back. Field of Dreams, No Way Out, Bull Durham, and the epic Dances with Wolves. Looking forward to this new adventure.
A Supreme Actor. Hanks and Costner, for this old Brit, make Wayne and Douglas look like what they were; Legendary film stars only.
I hope Kevin gets his money back we need more films like these
i really hope the yellowstone series keeps going back in time. 1883 was a work of art
"Dances With Wolves" and "Silverado" are two of my all-time favorite westerns, and I absolutely LOVE "Field of Dreams." What a gift! I'll be looking forward to seeing the first "Horizon" film in a couple of weeks, and here's hoping it lives up to the hype.
Long live legend and more westerns like this and better!
@KevinCostner-tw6kb Thank you, legend, for existing and for making my life richer. May you and your family be alive and healthy.
@KevinCostner-tw6kb I can't regret that I'm not closer to you (I'm from Croatia), because more than anything I'd like to meet you and play with you. I'm a drummer too. All the best, legend with a capital "L"!
@KevinCostner-tw6kb 🤝Thank you LEGEND!
I've been a fan since Silverado and I always will be.❤
The personality shines through and keeps viewers coming back.
Kevin is so smart! He works so hard, for his family, he is one of a kind amazing! Love you Kevin ❤️🔥
I love his thoughts on Billionaires. He doesn't allow them to rule what we see and don't see on the big screen. More power to Kevin. I will see the movie based on what he just said
I am native Indian I appreciate him making movies
Looking forward to watching movies 🎥🤗🙏💜
I pray Horizon be a great success, and that all that Kevin Costner dreamed about his project may come true. ❤

From what I hear your movie is going to be great. Just follow your heart you can't do any better than that
I loved this so much! I can’t wait to see this movie from this historically meticulous film maker. Great interview!
Can't wait for this to come out and go see it. Costner is a great actor and he does justice to Western movies. Just a suggestion for CBS Sunday Morning & Tracy Smith and this story - if you're going to quote Frank Sinatra aka 'ol Blue Eyes then why didn't you acknowledge the actor of the quote "Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway" - from one of the greatest cowboy actors ever - John Wayne - instead of just referencing "as a famous cowboy once said". If you like Westerns you have to know who John Wayne is - I don't care how old or young you are. Give credit where credit is due. And speaking of quotes Costner's statement of saying "....but the reality is if nobody wants to go fishing with me I'm going to go anyway" is a true definition of passion, drive and his desire to do it like "ol blue eyes and do it his way.
KEVIN COSTNER DOES EVERYTHING RECIPE JUST LIKE ME BECAUSE HE PUTS ALOT OF THOUGHT IN EVERY HE DOES!!
He is amazing. I have never seen someone so talented. Hope he keeps doing what he does. Also, please come back to Nashville, Indiana with Modern West. 😊
I definitely want to see this film.
I admire his commitment to his vision. It's a vision I appreciate…Dances with Wolves is my favorite movie of all time. I hope this is on par.
Steps in and out of white west gold like it ain't nothing... Loving it all the way. Look at Luke! Oh wow, and he's got Legacy. I mean just awesome love of material and direction. Bravos. Can't wait to see.
I love this channel ❤️
I’m so glad he pushes!
I still love going to a walk in...... still remember mom sending my big brother & I to the movies in early day Santa Barbara where the tickets were 25 cents or less, and that was a Double Feature.
GOT TO BE THERE
The experience of life. 💛✨
Everyone's so clean and perfect-looking.
The west was brutal. Making movies can fall short often..I hope the effort at time period creation and the message to be told is powerful
Go Kevin ❤
Love Sunday morning 🌄 fabulous.😅
EVERYTHING IS STRATEGICALLY LOCATED!!
Kevin's kind of overdone it with westerns (Wyatt Earp was pretty long and shapeless too) as have American movies in general, but Horizon should make a good air-conditioned theater summer nap (still recommend No Way Out as his most brilliant film). Great Whitney eulogy and oil clean-up technology too, Kevin! Keep riding! 🎉
I couldn't make it halfway through "Wyatt Earp", but I'll "No Way Out", haven't seen that one.
One of the greatest web satisfactions indeed, using technologies to encourage actors never give up, never retire because we have so much fun together...we can always enjoy a vintage movie, but new productions are always welcomed. My very favorite Costner product... is Yellowstone for sure. That kind of realistic input, of how fragile we are, we care to exhibit a ...facade of saving the appearences but then everything crumbles behind the fancy glittering courtain. We love to lie ourselves that we are safe from any evil when any death threat is just behind the corner, just nearby even within us, never safe from our own mistakes. The characters are great...for how much other movies or actors become ...too fake, Yellowstone instead is never fake. Hoping the crew will find a reason to go on... the Yellowstone landscapes are .. very wolfie, in a land of mad wolves indeed, trying to survive wilderness, I think it's a perfect picture of today's farmers and not exclusively Americans, climate change make farmers become predators like ...mad wolves indeed. A very harsh fate...never give up milk, yogurt and cheese in your diet, being supportive towards farmers... because only God knows how they have to struggle... having the water available or grass or cereals for cattles or ... workers eager to keep stables clean...movies most of the times show us ...real life we never imagine how harsh it could be. Then, they surface corrupted mayors eager to speculate on estate dealings, another luxurious Spa take over any farming business.. it looks already the sharks massacre😢😢😢and it's just a TV entertainment... thank you guys of being such spectacular entertainers indeed🎉❤🎉
i wish him luck.i truly do.
I'd like to see more aging actors as well... Older women in the western's range.
Betting on yourself is one of the things America is all about.
5:24 Not often you see Luke Wilson in a serious role.
I love him
Im hoping its great❤
if there was ever a movie that needed to be a mini-series its Horizion.
I LOVE ❤️ THIS COMMENT BECAUSE KEVIN DID IT HIS WAY!!
LINDÍSSIMO KEVIN COSTENER.....O MELHOR ATOR, DIRETOR ,CINEASTA, PRODUTOR DE CINEMA AMERICANO ❤❤❤❤
Can’t wait. Silverado, Dances, Open Range, Wyatt Earp (good, but justifiably over-shadowed by Tombstone), and Yellowstone…when has Costner failed in this genre? When he has control, the story will be authentic, it will put you in that place and time…and a I can’t imagine a 30yr passion-project would be any different.
