- Carmina Shoemaker Metal toe caps are installed by our artisans in our Mallorca factory. How are metal toe caps installed? We select a model with leather sole from our collection and recess the sole in order to install flush toe taps. Metal toe caps can also be installed along with some of our rubber sole options. Toe taps can easily be replaced if they wear down too.

So I visited both the NY stores and I'm quite surprised that Carmina doesn't offer the brass Triumph toe plates. In fact the sales person didn't even know what I was talking about.

Please forgive my ignorance..... but what are the caps for assuming that they're not for tap dancing.
I have the same doubt
If you wear your shoes a lot for walking on pavements, the front region below the toes has a tendency to wear off as you use it while taking a step forward. Toe caps help protect this part of the sole and it's relatively inexpensive to replace toe caps rather than resole. Best to do this when the shoes are new.

Estupendo señores. Por fin os encuentro y efectivamente este trabajo queda mejor rebajando pero veo que esa puntera es plana en su borde interior y eso facilita mucho rebajar en linea recta con lija. Las que puse en mi video tienen un quiebre mas complicado. De todos modos, a la próxima intento hacerlo de esa manera :-). Ánimo con este pedazo de canal y me suscribo
I just ordered from Carmina. The metal toe wasn’t done well. Screws were not installed properly it went down at an angle. The video here looks nothing like with what I got. I’d rate it 7/10.

Got this done for a new pair of shoes (black captoe oxfords) that I bought from their Barcelona store. They sent the shoes back to the factory for the toe caps & I got them back in a few days. Haven't had a chance to wear them as there's been a lot of rain in Mumbai since then.
Ketan Sanghvi how many days exactly did you wait for them to be done?
@@gedcanonizado it took about a week. Was told that they needed to courier the shoes to the factory for the work. The shoes came back a little earlier than expected.

Question - I've had toe caps put on my boots, and the screws are seem to loosen, I've screwed them back in and added some glue to hold them in place. Any suggestions? Anyone else experience this?
Just use silicon sealant mate.

the leather sole will make a "tap" noise when you walk so long as it's leather and not rubber.
In a lot of older movies, the shoes worn had more nails in the heels and also may have have had metal quarter tips on them.
they installed a thing called “blakey’s” on the bottom of their soles. it’s a small metal piece that you can buy on ebay and it comes with the nails attached, you just need to hammer it into place and when you walk it’ll make that iconic sound

How come you have to sand the end of the toe tap like that along the sole?

This is not very well done. He has left gaps in the sides. No t very pro, its a bit of a shame. Accuracy is extremely important in something like that.
Working with that cutter like that is very dingeraous, you will cut you finger someday, use protective glove.
So have you cut though the stitching to put that on?
So from what I can see on my pair (that just arrived last week) it looks like the toeplate butts right up to the stitch line but that the stitches aren't cut. I can see though in the video that it does look like the stitches have been cut.

@@steampunkvampyre I will have a look under the caps once I've had a few wears out of them and see what's cut out on my particular pair.

Old timer hot shot That’s a great explanation thank you. Re your last point, how think are the soles that you mention? I have a few pairs of church’s one of which I dare not ware in bad whether as it’s like walking on ice and today I have bought a new pair of Crockett and Jones and I am wondering weather I should put some rubber soles on the bottom of them both?
