Omg, my kids first knew Diana Ross as "Rainbow's mom!" 🥰🌈 I laughed so hard, I was like "Diana Ross was Beyoncé before Beyoncé was Beyoncé! She's the QUEEN!!!" They have since learned more about the legend that is Miss Diana
Lol too funny.
Indeed... Before Beyonce` was even a gleam in her Daddy's eye
I tell my young family members the same thing ALL the time. Diana was Beyonce before Beyonce. Ms Ross the Boss made the blueprint. Music, fashion & movies. I remember my parents took me with them to see Mahogany & Lady Sings the Blues. I was too young for Lady Sings but you know it was the 70's 😳
Beyonce and Diana Ross have nothing in common but fame.
Comparing random Black Women isn’t cute. They both can exist and are legends. So next.
Love 💕💕 kudos to Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of the group Chic for writing, producing and playing on the song
Defo got that Nile Rodgers trademark.
You can immediately hear Nile on this.
Also the late CHIC drummer Tony Thompson. This is them before thr
the Madonna "Like A Virgin" Sessions.
They were responsible for this whole album, no ? There were three massive hits from this one album, this one , I`m Coming Out and My Old Piano all classic songs of the end of the 70`s beginning of the 80`s.
You can immediately tell.
Definitely a classic, a big hit for Diana back in the day. Definitely check out "I'm Coming Out", "Love hangover", "Endless Love" (duet with Lionel Richie), and "Missing You".
Another one "The Boss"
Also “The Boss”, “Tenderness”, “It’s My House”, “Mirror, Mirror”, “Eaten Alive”, “Dirty Looks”, “Swept Away”, “And If You See Him”, “Surrender”, “Touch Me in the Morning”, “One Love in a Lifetime”, “Remember Me”
Mama Boss got jams and gems
🤗💜💫✨🔥🔥🔥🤌🏾
Whoa - what a flashback - I was in the Army - this album was a comeback for Diana , the other hit was “ I’m Coming Out”
This song jumped from #49 to #10, so on Casey Kasem's American Top 40 countdown, it debuted at #10. Pretty amazing! It spent 4 weeks at #1 in 1980.
Ya, this song was everywhere. There's nobody in America of 'a certain age' that doesn't know this song.
@@redpine8665 Certainly not only in America !
I love her music been so long and I don't know where we're supposed to make request for song I thought it was down here in the comments pet also 80s level 42 I've requested it before I think some other people have but I guess maybe not enough but I truly know you guys would love it in the weird part is like the last 2-3 days on Instagram I think it's histogram I'm 62 that anyway like four different times on different venues they have played level 42 which I thought was strange but a good strange
📻Aaah, Casey Kasem's "Top 40 Countdown" .. with those little Stories and Special Requests he did on the Show...Been a day or two since I even thought about that Show, and I used to listen to it a lot. Thanks for the Memory :}
@@laurin4405 we have 2 radio stations that play the Kassey Kassem top 40's every Sunday morning. It's a little bit of being an 80's teen again.
This song was such a HUGE hit back in '80
This is one of the best songs they have done on this channel. I remember it from the 80s and I like it better as the years go by. Have y'all done Reflections by Diana? It was the theme song to a very popular TV show in the 80s called China Beach, starring Dana Delaney a nurse in Vietnam.
Wow. Gorgeous, classic song. Massive hit for Diana.
More Diana Ross please? I’M COMING OUT is another bop.
One of her greatest ....Do You Know Where You're Going To by Diana Ross
You definitely need to hear Diana's Love Hangover. She's the best!
Yes. The album version!
Young Diana Ross. You can see why she shot to the top. She was smart, beautiful, had a wonderful unique voice, and the skill to show it off!
Diana Ross has had an incredible career for decades from the sixties until now actually. Her solo career was massive. She sang the gorgeous theme from mahogany, endless love(with Lionel Richie),love hangover, it’s my turn, I’m coming out to name a few. Thanks for posting this
Jay & Amber, you'll love her "Touch Me in the Morning", "Love Hangover", "Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To)", and
"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" !!!! Also duet her with Lionel Richie "Endless Love"!!
edit- "Touch Me.." and "Do You Know.." show her soft and delicate side!!
She did have a lot of hits! Great recommendations! :)
@@xzonia1 thank you!
@@surlechapeau My pleasure :)
I agree. I just listened to Touch me in the morning. A rare song with so much emotion. A true masterpiece from a legend!
yes, yes, & yes!
Absolute jam! Love this! This song was big in the 80's and has had staying power over the years. One of her best!
This song was written and produced by Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards, the guitar and bass duo behind Chic. This was when Chic was one of the hottest groups in the world and they also produced "I'm Coming Out" from the same album. You should react to "Good Times" by Chic. "Good Times" is a disco soul song by American R&B band Chic from their third album Risqué (1979). It ranks 68th on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and has become one of the most sampled tunes in music history, most notably in hip hop music.
😁👏🙌💪
Good Times is FIRE. Then do Rapper's Delight by Sugarhill Gang.
With CHIC"s Tony Thompson on drums. They also did Sister Sledge the year before, Debbie Harry and then Madonna's "Like A Virgin" Sessions later.
Also "Le Freak" by Chic, one of the biggest hits of the disco era, along with Good Times.
Nile is such a cool guy. I’ve DM’d him 5-10 times over the years on Twitter and he always responds. I told him that Chic was the first 8 track I asked my mom for when I was little. He has done so much and has worked with so many fantastic artists.
Diana Ross is a GODDESS!!!
That bass is the Chic guys Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers who were phenomenal in the early 80's. They wrote many songs in that era. Check out their own funky songs. Le Freak. Everybody dance, Good times and Sister Sledge songs too. Lost in music and He's the greatest dancer. Awesome songs back in the day.
It's funny you should mention Sister Sledge, this song and the songs on the album Diana were supposed to be their sophomore album. They were in the studio recording the music, when Nile and Bernard invited Diana to dropped by the studio to see how they worked. She heard the songs, and bought them for herself. Smart business woman.
..."Class of 76"...Such a great dancing song...always filled the floor...I'm Coming Out and Love Hangover please...thx!
A huge disco & skating rink jam! If you compare her sound with the later female R&B/Pop performers of the mid to late 80s, the Queen laid the foundation for all of their success: Jodi Whatley, Janet Jackson, Taylor Dane, Paula Abdul, Karyn White, etc.
That's ridiculous comment, considering that this music (sound) comes from Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards of Chic. This totally sounds like the group Chic, which is late 70's. They worked with many artists, Niles most notably Madonna. Taylor Dayne, Karyn White's music sound nothing like this, nor does Paula's. Janet's is distinctive and the sound comes from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (The SOS Band). They did Human (for the Human League) and many others. Jody Watley phrased like Diana, and was a big Diana fan, but I still wouldn't say this sounded like her music.
@@marchjoy7391 Just my humble opinion. No need to flame me ("ridiculous"?) for recognizing something you do not hear. Art is subjective and regardless of who produced them artists can still be influenced by simply hearing something from their past. I am asserting, IMHO, through my brief comment that this song was a starting point for the evolution of dance music through the 80s and into the early 90s. "Try to make someone smile today."
@@seanmonetathchi1060 Since Diana does not write music or lyric, and is not responsible for the sound. To say "she" laid the ground work for all of their success, seems ridiculous to me, sorry to say. Regardless of the subjectivity you pointed out....
@@marchjoy7391 Does not seem that you were "sorry" since that was the second word you typed. Seemed like the clear point to flame my comment as ridiculous and you verified that by doubling down in your reply. I have never asserted that you were wrong in your opinion. I have just posited my opinion based upon my personal observations. I only object to use of the word "ridiculous" as it is a word choice implying a condescending attitude as if my opinion is vastly inferior. If you are a long time viewer of this channel and it's community you should recognize that it is one of positivity, kindness, and civility. This is why I quoted Amber's closing line to every video as a reminder to try and stay positive and share that positivity with others. I understand that you "strongly disagree" with my assessment and that's okay with me. I truly hope you have a great day where ever you are and only I hope you are more mindful of your word choice in the future. Peace.
@@marchjoy7391 You did make a factual mistake yourself here. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis got their recognition and popularity playing for The Time, NOT The SOS Band. The Time was a Prince protege group and Jam and Lewis played on almost all their albums before setting off on their own. They did work with the SOS Band but they weren't from The SOS Band.
A MUST HEAR Classic,, Diana Ross "Love Hangover"....Nuff Said.
Like Barbra Streisand did with Barry Gibb, Diana Ross turned to Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards of Chic, who were big disco era star to have their biggest success (both had their best selling albums of their careers).
Diana Ross combined with Michael Jackson and the BEE GEES for the tune: Eaten Alive. That album (Experience) is filled with the elegant pop of the Bee Gee's and her voice melts into theirs. Your Barry Gibb fan over there will LOVE it. There's a song, 'I Love Being in Love With You', where Diana sounds like the fourth Brother. There was a hit, Chain Reaction, which I think you may have reacted to. The Bee Gees sang all the backing vocals with Michael Jackson added on Eaten Alive - a minor hit for Miss Ross.
It’s amazing how Diana Ross is 79 and just came out with a new album that got GRAMMY NOMINATED and is still touring. I mean… what a legend!
She's a legend, always heard her with the Supremes on the radio in the 70's growing up...
That's not the same thing as being there in the 60s when they were together
Before Beyoncé and others like her, there was Diana Ross (with the Supremes), who ruled the airways with her distinctive voice and style. I can’t count how many hits she had because there are too many, but when she was on the radio, you could recognize her voice right away. That was long before all the auto tuned generic voices of today.
I would never put Beyonce on the same level as Diana Ross....
Saw her in concert! Omg she was amazing!
This song was Diana Ross's biggest hit song ever as a solo artist. The song debuted both on the Billboard Top 40 and The Billboard Top 10 chart at the same time during the early fall of 1980. It spent a total of 4 weeks at the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This song is definitely a monster hit indeed!!!
Diana Ross listen to her doing:
“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough “ !!!
Love it !!
Great choice!!!! Always up for some Diana Ross!! 🕺 disco fever!! 😊
Im a regular hood dude doing food reviews on my UA-cam channel 😤
Nice choice!!! This album is bumpin’!!!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Diana Ross is a badas! Her music charmed me back then and still does She has to be in her late 70s! Iconic!
The next Diana Ross song should be I'm Coming' Out. You should also listen to Helen Reddy's I Am Woman.
The Critics blasted this Song when it was released in 1980, but the listening public disagreed and took it to #1. It absolutely rocked the airwaves. I loved it then and I still love this classic.
Diana Ross was born in 1944, and this song (Upside Down) was released in 1980. So she was near 35-36 when this song was released.
She sang a great song from the movie Lady Sings The Blues- Good Morning Heartache.
Luv this song
You would also really love Diana's hit song, "Love Hangover" (1976).
Amazing vocals, love her duet with Lionel Ritchie " endless Love"
This is my favorite Diana Ross song!! So glad you finally reacted to it!!! The BRILLIANT Nile Rodgers and Bernard EDWARDS (RIP) from Chic created produced and wrote the music and Diana gave us her beautiful voice and it is just excellent!!
This has the distinctive sound of producers Nile Rodgers/Bernard Edwards from the group Chic. Their funky sound is timeless and one that has survived from the 70s disco era.
You ain't heard Diana Ross until you listen to the long version of her hit "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."
Ugh… I want that played at my funeral lol. Crazy about that song
Loved all the early 80s Pop/ R&B hits like this. They carried over the 70s disco vibe and mixed it with the synth pop sound. Soooo good
This came out right at the tail end of the Disco era, and was a huge hit. A couple of folks below have mention Love Hangover, and one of the Drag Queen anthems, I'm Coming Out. Both great tunes.
"Love Hangover" is incredible. The long version.
@@samuelgates5935 Seconded. Long version is phenomenal.
Amber's chair dancing had some arms going up in the air with this classic Diana Ross Disco tune!! So fun!
"Muscles" I'm Comin' Out" and "Missing You" were my favorite Diana singles
An amazing career! 12 #1 songs, leading The Supremes, and another 5 as a solo artist
Oooh you hit my heart. I was in Boot camp and my girlfriend sent me a tape with "missing you"! Still makes me sad.
@@alexandervasel6845 It was a memorial to her fallen friend, Marvin Gaye, who was killed the year before by his father in an argument
Those are great songs. Michael Jackson wrote and produced the song muscles.
She also had another #1 with Endless Love.
Y'all have to do "Love Hangover" funky, her best song since she was with the SUPREMES, in my humble opinion.
This was absolutely HUGE back in the day. All over the radio then, and still heard today. Classic funk 💜🔥💃
I fell in love with this track when I was about 15. It still sounds so fresh. Thanks for the memories x
Diana Ross being the Queen she is! She was the one to introduce the Jackson 5 for the first time. They remained close friends.
This album was produced by Nile Rodgers and you can hear his influence so heavily on this song, especially his guitar work. This would still fall into the category of Disco, because disco was still big at this timeframe.
My dad would rock this sing at his night club back in the day. Takes me back.
Brilliant song. Beautifully sung and produced
Yes!!! Long live Disco! This record is in the front of my record bin as I type; I can’t tell you how big this song was; next Diana Ross songs: “THE BOSS”, “LOVE HANGOVER” 🔥
Love Diana, she is the Queen 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻🇬🇧xxx
This was the beginning of Chic ruling the decade of the 1980s. They went on to produce for Debbie Harry, David Bowie, Duran Duran, and the B-52s among many others.
It hits just as hard as it did when it was dominating the air waves in 1980!!
Hey guys. I appreciate this so much, theres so much in ms Ross music catalog Please do more,, Missing You. IM COMING OUT, ENDLESS LOVE, IT'S MY HOUSE, CHAIN REACTION, LOVE HANGOVER, SWEPT AWAY... MUSCLES.. DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU GOING TO.. AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH
I’m 63 years old. I guess it’s hard for me to understand how anybody could go through the life never hearing that song? Not even in a grocery store? Not even on the car radio? That is so strange to me! It’s like a worldwide anthem!
You are so right
I think you would
Happy I saw her live in the 80's.. She was on my radio from the 60's on... music of my life.
This was from her comeback album. This was produced by Niles Rodgers of Chic. "I'm Coming Out" is also off this album. People went crazy over this back in the day.
Whenever I hear Diana Ross I think of her playing Dorothy in "The Wiz"
So many artists have sampled this song!
Comeback ? She had her first gold album with The Boss, which was the album before this one.
The Boss barely went gold (were there any memorable songs on that album?)where as Diana easily went platinum with two mega hits!
@@bertisjordan1085 the Boss is a great album !! Its my house and the Boss are very memorable!!
Exactly! What a song w/ that groove, but when I finally listened to lyrics I was like wth??
the way this song is so casually recorded, its as if shes just casually walked up to this guy in the disco bar, and is telling him whats up
Suggestion, DIANA ROSS...It's My Turn, great song
There you go again hearing the details, Jay; loved that you caught the base switch up at the end and went “Whoa” 😃
You can tell that Niles Rodgers produced it, love it! And, you two gonna react to "Love Hangover", THAT is a strut song!!
Great talent! Diana was to give an open -air concert in Central Park decades ago. Well, it poured! But out Diana came, soaked thru, singing "I'm coming!" Diana sang tune or two, then had to leave because of lightning. Guess what? A few days later, the concert was restated and Diana was great! Thanks!!
A legendary performance.
Amber and Jordan, you may like Lipps Inc,(Funkytown)'80. It was a #1 hit in 28 countries. Keep up with the good work 😎👍
A friend of mine in high school was a HUGE The Supremes fan and had read every book on them he could find, and on all the individual singers of the group as well. He said Diana chose this song to sing because it wasn't too hard vocally for her kids to sing along with her at home, and they'd understand the "round and round" and "upside down" enough to dance along but wouldn't understand the fact it's about a guy cheating on her (I guess they were pretty little when this came out). Lol. She chose it so she could have fun singing with her kids at home, and still made it a big hit! :)
Yeah, an odd choice of song to sing along with the kiddies, eh?
SHE ALWAYS HAD THE BEST WRITERS AND ARRANGERS ! THIS WAS A MOTOWN CLASSIC !
Diana Ross and the Supremes had major hits, she also had an awesome solo career. Her Las Vegas Concert in the 80's (82 I think) is something to watch.
Yeah! The lovely Diana. MEOW WOW 🥰⚘⚘⚘. Great singer.
This is SUCH a good song..perfect for parties,nightlife..or just listening alone at home when you want to feel some groove....good reaction choice!
One of the ultimate roller skating songs.
Oh yes! This is one of the first songs I remember marking as a "major favorite" from that period of my childhood. More than 40 years after it was released, I never tire of hearing it. Great choice and glad you guys loved it!
Ditto to that! 👏🏻👏🏻
A MOTOWN FAME. LOVE HER ❤️ HAD a crush on her in the 60s. I'll be 74 in February so I remember her and the Supremes very well. I would say 98 % of the backup band behind the motown singers were the FUNK BROTHERS
"Diana" is a great album but you have got to listen to her version of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" - full length!
It's Diana what else needs to be said. About 287 years ago ,1973, lol I was 13 and spending a summer in LA with my uncle. He took me to Lake Tahoe, and we went to the dinner show at Caeser's Palace. I was about 6-8 chairs from the stage and I was mesmerized. Miss Ross was in her prime. I was a lucky kid. Enjoy this tune.
Great memory. ✌️
Mark, I saw that same show. She did Stevie's Superstition and I was completely blown away! Do you remember that?
@@mojo0307 I remember the Lady Sings the Blues set. It’s my house and I live here. Corner of the sky. I had an album of the show she did at Ceasers LasVegas. It was 50 years ago
I played this song over and over when it came out. I remember it coming on the radio every morning before school. Diana is a queen 💖
Love Diana!❤❤❤
My FAVORITE Diana Ross song! Thank you for reacting to it. She is one of those few artists who cannot be copied, she's truly one of a kind! I have a suggestion for a new artist to react to. They're called The Jets, a Tongan-American, 8-person band composed of brothers & sisters. You really need to react to their '85 Hit "Crush On You", it was their second hit & most successful song.
Gotta dance when you hear it!!!!
Imagine yourselves in a dance club in NYC in the disco era when this was playing!! So much fun!!
Another one of my favorites is from 1973, “Touch me in the Morning” one of Diana’s best!
I did like this song.
Jay Robbie Bachman of BTO passed away today you loved You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet.
This song brings back such great memories. It was my favorite as a kid. I saw her in concert around the time this song came out. It was the highlight of the show for me.
My favorite song by Diana Ross!
If you wanna stay on a similar theme with Diana Ross try "My Old Piano". Funky bass and tinkling ivories galore!
Produced and written by Chic founders ... def has that Chic sound going on. #classicAF
Yes! I was GROOVING to this WAAAAAAAY back in 1980 as a 13 year-old boy!! This MIX is STILL SOLID!!
You'll also like her big 1976 hit "Love Hangover."
This is one of my favorites from Diana. I remember so well waiting to see her with the Supremes on the Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday nights 100 years ago. They were so beautiful. I'd love to see you guys react to Diana Ross and Julio Iglesias singing All of You. Very beautiful and romantic.
You know it's a great song, when this 80s metal fan, white boy, can drive around town, with the top down, this song turned up to 11. The reactions are awesome, especially whe the ppl are honking and grooving to it. I love sharing ❤️
Wife here..., LOVE LOVE LOVE this Absolute Queen!!!..POP ROYALTY FOR SURE 👍🌹
HEY guys this is how great of a singing career Diana Ross had on the Billboard pop singles chart as a lead singer for the Supremes from 1964 to 1970 they had 12 number one songs (only the Beatles had more 20) as a solo act she had 5 number one songs then duo with Lionel Ritchie for the song Endless love 18 number one song between 1964 to 1981.
The unique vocal cadence combined with her beautiful voice makes this so great.
Diana Ross is an icon
Funny know every word yet never knew it was Diana Ross singing. Fantastic voice.
A very simple song. She said she wanted something her then 5 year old could sing (Chudney). This is her 17tg billboard number one. It was on FIRE and let’s not forget Nile Rogers writing and production here.
The Great Diana Ross
One of the nastiest, funkiest tracks, sent soaring of course with Ms.Ross' distinct voice. Legend.
This is my favorite Diana Ross song of all time. I was OBSESSED with this song back in the 80's. I was nervous at first, because I wasn't hearing any of Jordan "Hey"s. But it did end up getting 2.
