      Funny. The German language requires all nouns to be capitalized, but a self-identified German (@Jozef 77) refuses to capitalize the G or displayed a Freudian slip. Who knows? Did the editor of this video include the dumbest things to be more entertaining or did the answers reflect the interview answers? Yep, this is a UA-cam language video that does not take itself too seriously. For academic peer review literature, we have to go elsewhere. I get that.

      To me this video was shocking. The "Anglo-Saxon race". That's some kind of statement I would expect from someone who's in his mid 70's but not from a grown up man full aware of the fact that this was absolutely bluntly racist.

    I dated a Turkish gentleman (oh, yes, I mean that in every sense of the word) in Berlin back in 1992. Some pretty horrible East German women insulted us and spit at us on our first date.
    As an American who grew up speaking German as my second language, I was ashamed that I spent my childhood learning a language and culture that I was proud of, and instead experienced the most devastating kind of prejudice the first time I traveled abroad. I started learning German when I was 7 years old, and my first trip to Germany was in college.
    As for visiting Germany again?
    I might visit Munich, but Berlin broke my fucking heart.

      Ben, I really wanted to love Berlin. I can't say I'm blaming a city, but I do think my encounters there (more than just this one incident, but this hurt me the most) were not very friendly. There's so much history in that city, and I believe that there should be more unity after all that Berlin's residents have had to endure over the past 100 years. I thought that after all of the hate, we should be trying harder to love each other rather than accusing each other because people are still angry about their own situations. All I know is, a gentleman wanted to take me to dinner and to dance, and had to endure shame for his race on our first date in Berlin. It made me sad.
      Future visits? I loved Oberstdorf, loved Munich, loved Ravensburg. But I just didn't find the same kind of openness and kindness in Berlin.

    Why are the Germans shitting on the British here? I asked the same question in a poor German city that my friend lives in and people couldn't even spot England on the map!! One of the most easy to spot nations and they couldn't even do that. If you go to any of these ''German ask'' videos, you'll notice they go to the main cities of Germany like Berlin. But this video wasn't taken in a main city. Main cities have the more educated, good looking people in then. So it's unfair to claim the British don't know anything about Germany from one video. I think they come off as calm, lovely, and I can tell you know more about Germany than Germans know about England.

    Traveling anywhere, including Germany, changes you. American get a bad rap for not knowing any about Europe. Well, it seems to me that being closer to the continent reduces the excuse for not visiting. I lived in Germany as part of the American military force there in the mid-'80s and then later during the time of German Reunification. There is one guy that says Germany is one big Army base. Well, the numbers of British troops are dwindling to less than 4,000 soon if not already. The Union Jack flies in Cyprus and Bahrain as well as Kenya. Has anyone checked those numbers yet? I totally appreciate all of the UK troops I served with during my four tours in Iraq. I tip my hat to those brave men and women from the British Isles.

    to be honest every educated man in the world recalls hitler and nazis and second world war affairs. but i think they are polite to confess. but maybe thanks to hollywood, when you hear about germany, one of the first things to remember is hitler. and i think that would be rude to openly state it to a german. we have lots of german tourists here in turkey, the local people who knows german enough to chatter with a german would not openly state, that the first thing your mind recalls when you hear germany is hitler. but again i have to state that this is due to hollywood and political powers... for example, japan had lots of evil attrocities in the first half of the 20th century, but when japan is mentioned, nobody recalls them easily. this is how our minds are manipulated.

    it's so sad that Brits don't even know there closest european relatives that well, come on , you both are descendents from that anglo-saxon tribe, but you people can't even name anything else about Germany but beers&sausages?!

      +du39104 No we are not. The English may have the link but the British do not. And consider our nearest Europeans relatives are the Irish, Scots, Welsh, followed globally by the Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders, Yanks and South Africans.

      Unfortunately our education is poor and it is a bit of an embarrassment. Being quarter German myself I see many great things that have come from Germany, sports players, artists, composers, scientists, wines, and many more things. I love the German art materials. I will say this for the UK we had some fabulous comedies!😁

    • @tig3662
      @tig3662 6 років тому +2

      Aguii007, it depends on what educational system you're talking about. Do you mean the free state one? Then yes, there are issues there. But British educational system is the best in the world. And you clearly have no idea about your own county because we produced those as well, many of the world leading, well, not the wines but the rest we have. Germans would also fail to answer these questions.

The country that began the modern world with their revountarly innovations? The country that is the oldest modern democracy in the world with a rich democratic history? Could go on and on!

    tbh most ''what do you think about'' videos are asked in the main cities of any country where people are more educated. in my experience Germany is just like the UK and has dumber/regional differences in the smaller cities. if you go to a German city that's not Berlin, Munich, etc you would probably get that idiot man. I think he might have been joking lol. I think it's unfair they included him in this video because it unfairly gives a wrong impression to the other smart people. and about two of these people asked were Australians
    germans don't know a lot about england neither apart from the royal family and ww2. I like england a lot and have met many pleasant English who know more about Germany than ur average German knows about England. Guess it depends where you ask though like any nation!
