To answer that question on why the video did badly, from my side atleast its because the concept seems rather 'plain' from a viewing perspective. Yes it adds a new level of depth and planning to the game however it doesnt feel different enough from a regular game of Hearthstone to be interesting enough to view.

For the most recent video (the one you were talking about) I started watching it when it came out while I was out walking around. I didn’t finish it because of two main reasons:
    1) you and roffle just brought regular standard decks rather than making unique decks that played into the restriction. I like how excited you and your opponent get when you go like “now check out this hot tech.”
    2) I just sort of got the vibe that roffle wasn’t having a lot of fun? I watch his stuff and get that he has a dry humor, but usually he likes to crack a joke or exaggerate sometimes. But in the video he was talking like he was reading his taxes. It was just a sort of weird vibe. At least that’s how I remember it.

    • @FireSignd
      @FireSignd 4 місяці тому +4

Hm, for your second point that's absolutely not the vibe I got from Roffle - I watch him a lot too and this is exactly how he usually is (imo), especially when he isn't directly interacting with chat.

Yeah, when I see a wacky ruleset I'm usually expecting a wacky deck to go along with it. I enjoy watching Rarran play standard decks, but mixing it up once in a while with the weird challenges is cool. To your second point, I personally just don't find most vids with roffle enjoyable due to the dry humor and overall attitude towards chat but meh, I'll watch whoever Rarrbear wants to play with if it's an interesting vid.

    How Nerfs IMO should be:
Brann: stats stay the same, but instead of double battlecry for the rest of the game, you get a location that when activated doubles all battlecries that turn, then you can further balance it around the number of uses, give it like 4 or 5 to start of with.
Saddle up: give your minions: death rattle summon a random beast with cost up to this minions cost, a maximum of 3 (so a 1 mana minion can summon a 1 or 0 mana beast, a 5 mana minion summons a 0, 1, 2 or 3 mana beast.
Alternatively but that is probably unplayable
Saddle up: give your non beast minions Death rattle: summon a random beast that costs (3) or less.

In the format video the thumbnail and title were a bit confusing so you couldn't really understand it immediatly. But I get it that the format idea is hard to explain in a short text.

  • @Miro175

Yeah i feel like cards that have permanent effects are usually way too broken in the game, expecially if the cards that activate it are cheap, as an example im climbing with a highlander(my fav archetype) rainbow dk(my current favourite deck) and helya is way too good even with few plagues because as a 4 drop you get way more for the mana cost than you'd get with any other 4 drop in the deck

  • @sailormaidsama

    For me the Format video being kind of just "fine" were 2 main facts;
The concept itself is also just not "wacky" or "interesting" enough, simply because it can just be avoided completly by building a deck dedicated for the challenge, which is what you'd usually do.
And oddly enough, (I realize how much this feels like it contradicts point 1) I felt like what made the video itself not as interesting past the click were the decks themself.
What made the Golden Monkey video one of the best videos of all time, wasn't that you just put Elise into an already good deck, but all the shenanigans that came from it!
I expected things like Blademaster Okani, Prosecutor Mel'tranix, Freezing/Ice Trap, Counter spell, Oh my Yogg.
Or cards that try and bypass the restriction like the new Hagatha, Naga Schoolteacher or Nzooth's first Mate!
So I was hesitant to click the video due to my assumption about the decks, but the decks just being standard decks was also not interesting enough from a gameplay PoV

  • @RedEyeStorm7

I think part of the reason why the format video didn't do as well was the both the title typo at the beginning as well as the fact that neither of you really made decks suited for the format, you just kind of brought random decks you like to play, which takes away a lot from a special rule set like that because the deck building is half the challenge.

    • @MoreRarran
      @MoreRarran  4 місяці тому +32

the logic behind the decks was how do you build for this? we both thought it would be more interesting to see how this rule set would affect standard decks. Its harder to build something interesting for this, but I also thought the gameplay of this was really cool and the view duration of the video is fine, so its def more of a clicking problem.
for the title, my bad for sure but after it was fixed, it should have solved the problem but there seems to be a disconnect more than anything on how the rules worked even though in the first 10 seconds of the video the rules are explained, which has me lost on why, cuz I dont know what else I could have said to make it more clear

I was about to type this exact comment, the enjoyment from these videos is seeing how you build decks around it or the showcasing of lower tier decks vs each other, because you just don't see these decka much. After seeing the second game and realising you were both using decks we've seen you both use alot I either stopped watching myself or stopped paying too much attention.

For the 1 type per turn video,
The video popped in my sub box and my first reaction instead of clicking (which I usually do) was "what does that even mean?"
Then after 15 seconds of looking at the thumbnail I figured out the concept, but then thought "Well it's not that wacky or interesting, I'll see what else I have"
BUT then 30 minutes later I had an epiphany "Oh it's probably a 1v1 challenge video , not Rarran being goofy on ladder. There's always good banter and interesting decks on both POVs, I should watch that video when I have the time."
And I watched it the next day instead and I had a great time.

I think it was that, at least for me, I thought it was just 1 card per turn and then I was a bit bored because I'm not too good of a player, so I didn't understand the coolness of the concept as well as the decks being standard. Like in the other videos you make decks that abuse the rule, and I witness the niche powerhouse cards, but here it just slowed down the gameplay.

For me! I don't normally look too much into the thumbnails and titles of video more who has uploaded it when it comes to subbed content and I feel like the intro was very well done but it did seem confusing at first like: was it just play one card a turn, play one minion tribe. it took me at least the first game to fully understand what was happening. I think bringing standard decks into these videos doesn't really help the format since people like to see more "wacky" builds from custom rules or bulds which are around the format with limiations which work with the format. The video was great I did enjoy it and Roffle is great but I feel like it might have confused people which caused them to skip the video.
Edit: As somone who is also Data driven I do find it intresting to see why things like this happen and what could have caused it like, "bad thumbmails/titles" (I don't think it was but given examples) like you said no every video will be a "banger" but trying to figure out why is what makes you a stronger creator since you are learning from your experience compared to ignorning it and saying "better luck next time"

I think the one card type per turn format didn't seem too game-changing from the onset. Like if someone told me I could only play one card type in a turn I would think the game would look pretty similar but with a bit of mana leftover each turn. I have watched a lot of your videos recently, but i have completely skipped that one, despite it showing up in my recommended over and over again. It looked boring, the title was boring, there was nothing to draw me in, your recap in this video of what it’s about makes it sound a lot more interesting. I would maybe make the title something like “MAKING OUR OWN FORMATS TO SPICE UP STANDARD, WHILE WAITING FOR THE NEXT EXPANSION” and then you and Roffle doing a PogChamp in the thumbnail, knowing he was also in the video would also have made me watch it. Gotta farm those clicks.

About the card type restriction video!
I think a lot of it comes down to the restriction not being interesting?
I immediately understood the concept from the thumbnail, but just couldn’t imagine a deck that would be interesting. Like, the best suited decks would be minionless or minion only decks, right?
One of those restrictions that can be completely dodged by building a deck that can ignore the restriction.
Even if the idea is that it’s normal decks put under this restriction that they have to work around, it just didn’t seem especially interesting AS a restriction. I thought that might just be my opinion, but hey, if the video did poorly that might be why.

Regarding why the video didn't do well, I saw it with the initial title and I wasn't sure what it was about. After a few minutes I started watching and I have to confess, as it was about 10 pm for me, I kind of skipped the intro. I went with the idea that I know what the challenge is about from the title, so I can go straight to the gameplay.
I watched it until the end and I loved as always the interaction between you too. I guess the challenge itself played a part too, it felt a bit weird seeing you guys press "End turn" with 2 mana left. Other than that, the matches were generally one-sided, there was no real struggle for the win.
I'm kind of nit-picking here, but these are the thoughts of a tired man. Hope this helps. Cheers

  • @ChalerYT
    @ChalerYT 4 місяці тому

Kinda disorganised thoughts on the main channel video. I watch the last video all teh way through and I think the fact you just bought random decks defo made the video feel like more of an afterthought like you just were like oh lets do something why dont we do this with zero prep. the deck thing was also established right at the start so if it feels like you guys don't care enough to even build specific decks why should the audience?
Also the title and thumbnail clash with what the format actually is. Personally I click on the video and I expect you guys to have decks build of exclusively a certain card types (which also sounds fun) based on the title and thumb so when I click in and see you aren't doing that I feel let down and want to click off. This is then compounded by the previous comment.
Hope this is helpful but most importantly big man dont let it get you down you post a lot sometimes your going to miss we all chase that 1 out of 10 but its just not gonna happen everytime. Keep on trucking love ur stuff.

I watch every video you release so I'm probably not the best person to guess why one didn't do as well as others. I will say that as much as I love it when you play other card games like Balatro or Yu-Gi-Oh, oftentimes they are edited with a lot of quick cuts so it can be hard for me to understand what's happening. With Hearthstone I know the game well enough that it's still legible, but with unknown games I can get lost.

I thought the 1 type card video was boring because the decks were boring. The premise being "a standard deck but sometimes your turns just are forced to suck" isn't very interesting. Making custom decks for the format for would have been much better. 1 minion focused deck, 1 spell focused deck, 1 weapon focused deck would have been way more interesting.

First of all: I really like your Videos, they brought me back to HS. You are doing a great Job!
    Some Ideas for Formats:
    - Win Challenges seem pretty popular on Twitch. Maybe something like that? Competing with other Content-Creators? Like Get a Back-to-Back win in Standard, then in Wild and then place Top3 in BG? If you fail at any point -> Reset
    - Maybe a Format where you Build a Deck for your Opponent and then you play against each other. Kinda a "who can build the worst Deck" Competition. Maybe with the possibility that each Player can swap 2 Cards out to get some actual win-conditions. (but not whizzbang obv.)
    - I really like the Expanxsion-Series. And i like the Fact that we can see some Decks "grow" with Time. But also the actual Packopenings are not as impactful or the Deckbuilding Component of the Videos is smaller i think. Maybe you could start (at some point) a 2nd Version of it, where you keep the 40 Basic Packs, but after each Expansion you Dust every Card from that Expansions. And then you can maybe craft like 1-3 Cards or smth. So that only a few Cards carry over and you start more "fresh" into each Episode.
Sorry if some of the Ideas are old or smth, i did watch a lot of Videos from you, but not all i guess ^.^

In regards to the other video, it just seemed like it wouldn't be that much different than a regular HS game. Looking at the second game in this video, you went:
    T1> pass
    T2> all spells
    T3> Only minion
    T4> Minion
    T5> spell+minion
    T6>Minion
    T7> Minion
    T8> Minion+spell
    T9: Hero+minion
    T10>Weapon
7 out of your 10 turns followed the ruleset for that video, and that was without deckbuilding to consider it, and a deck that mana-cheats a lot. Also, the tooltip looks like it says 'weapons only' the 'this turn' thing isn't too clear.

tbh that video was really boring..... you and Roffle weren´t chatting as he usual. You two are such an amazing duo together but there I felt like you were both kinda out of juice. The format was hard and challenging for you two, but I didnt feel like it did matter in the tho. You just played normal HS and sometimes you werent allowed to play smth but... that´s it?
Also I love the part where you are explaining the video, what is going to happend and what is this challenge!
It was just so boring that for the first time I did not finish video from you with this concept (PS: I LOVE THOSE!)

Sorry in advance for the essay.
You got me back into Hearthstone around when Deathknight got released, hadn't played since Mean Streets. I don't watch any creator religiously but am constantly coming back to your channel, you make good videos and you're one of the most consistent creators this community has had. My favourite recent video was the chaotic format with Leo, and in general I'd say the videos where you have people on with interesting insights, like game-devs, oldschool creators and people from other games are the ones I'm most likely to watch.
I haven't watched the poorly performing recent video so here's why I guess: I didn't hover over the video to see Roffle was there and assumed it was just you doing some niche challenge with chat, 'stream challenges' tend to be the least interesting videos for me to watch, my 8 year old twitch account probably has a total watch time under ten hours.
Both title and thumbnail didn't give me a clear indication of what exactly was going on. Now if I had given it a couple seconds of thought I probably would have figured it out, but in a list of 30 other random videos it didn't catch my eye for that long. Maybe something like CHOOSE ONE: WEAPON | SPELL | MINION, would have been clearer, using familiar hearthstone terminology without having the BANNED ribbon implying it's gone for the whole format. In the 0.3 seconds I subconsciously thought about the thumbnail I think I assumed it was a weapons-only format or something, which didn't seem interesting.
None of this is to say I think you did a bad job, or that you should reel in making content like this. I described you as consistent earlier not just because your upload schedule, but because your content has a great mix of familiarity and experimentation, generally I know what to expect from a Rarran video, yet you manage to keep it fresh. Makes for a comfy watching experience about a game I really like that, after 10 years would otherwise get a little stale. Anyway, keep up the good work, I'll go watch that video now :)
PS Get chundo on! !! !

I think the video did poorly because you guys literally just brought decks you liked that didn't conform to the rule set. Like, No one brough Spell Mage? No one brought Elemental Shaman? No one brough Pirate Rogue? There are tons of obvious lines to take, but even like a full deck of legendaries would have been more exciting than just Combo Rogue or Rainbow DK. 6 decks to show, and Jade Display Druid was the only one that seemed worth the time of watching. For me at least. (Idr if you were only doing Standard or not, that's obviously relevant). The premise could have been outlined a bit better in the thumbnail and title too? The thumbnail does look like you're implying the deck must only contain 1 card, but the title gets the point across. I personally understood the ruleset off rip, but hearing you say "Kingsbane would have gone crazy" kinda irked me. It obviously would not go crazy. The best part of Kingsbane is the ability to redraw and play it multiple times. If you play it, that's your whole turn. Even something like Battlecry Shaman would have been cool, cause you could Quest on 1, and then just slam battlecries for 12 turns, and then do a sick combo with your hero power, which was a huge selling point for me on the rules. Being able to use your hero power freely enables play around stuff like HP buffs, or summoning silverhand recruits every turn, or something to that nature. HP Mage??? Like. There are TONS of cool ideas for decks to run through in a Wild format of this ruleset, it just wasn't executed all that well for me. Love the vids man. You're basically the only HS player I watch consistently, and your philosophy on content is great. Keep it up.

On the video "Only one type", to me the problem was that knowing the consequences of the limitation before clicking the actual video is to be expected only from expert player audience.
New players, casuals or young players just jam the cards and don't understand tempo, or using mana, and that's ok too, but they need really simple concepts. The video in reality is even benefial to them, they can learn what's tempo while having fun.
A good example of the thumbnail would be "Losing mana on only 1 type???" or something similar.
for more context, i'm a long time mtg player, played HS until ben brode made cards, and i watch your videos because you (and ecore/roffle) are fucking hilarious. Keep up the good work!

The video was good in my opinion. Honestly it was the thumbnail I think, for some reason I thought it was an older video I already watched. I remember seeing it popping up and I didn't wanted to watch it because I thought it was something I already did.
Also the idea was maybe not the most exciting? Just because I didn't thought it would make a big impact on the game? Your videos are still bangers one after the other so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I really liked the card comparing games with the MTG and Yu-Gi-Oh creators!
Blizzard give this man a custom game mode in HS already! XD

I watched part of the card type video and got bored, mostly because the content wasn't as interesting. I think it's for two reasons:
    1. Using standard decks. A lot of what I enjoy in the challenge videos is seeing the whacky decks you make to get around the challenge. Obviously making custom decks just wouldn't work for this specific challenge, since one-card-type idea already has dedicated archetypes.
    2. The effect of the challenge on actual gameplay felt like just "play suboptimally on some turns", and it's hard to tell at a glance what your decision making is.
Contrast with the hero power every turn challenge. The decks were interesting how they worked around the hero powers, and it was obvious what the actual gameplay impact was (you have 2ish mana less every turn).
I love the videos normally though. Don't get yourself down.

Rarran, regarding your question as to why that video did so poorly: I 've not watched it because the concept didn't engage me. When I'm playing a card game I'm a combo oriented player, and my interest in a hearthstone video - besides your beautiful persona - is what crazy interactions come out of the video. Reading that video title, I was unable to imagine the potential of the content so I didn't check it out... I also failed to properly understand the concept of that video from reading its title. When I read the title my mind went to "a deck that only has weapons, which will only play weapons" which is, of course, ridiculous and probably shouldn't factor into your analysis of why the video did poorly, but also chat is a bunch of apes so... y'know, reading comprehension hard.
I've greatly enjoyed your content over the years, and I don't think that'll change anytime soon. Of recent highlight for me was the chaotic format w/ Leo, Farfa & MTBY guessing Hearthstone card powers, and your ascension 20 w/ Frostprime (it was very cool to hear you both enjoyed NL content as well).

I think the title + braking my “idea of the video”
Big disclaimer: I like the video a lot - Videos with roffle are always nice.
Anyways: for the reason was when I clicked on the video I had a completely different ideia of what the format would be. Then u explained the rules and I was like “what that’s not what I expected”. Doesn’t mean that a bad but I was like:
I expect this - wasn’t what I was expecting - didn’t have enough time to see that both ideias were great.
Usually when something that I wasn’t expecting happens and it isn’t “immediately” much better (I think) people just give up on the ideia.
    Maybe that’s what happened?
But it was a great video just not what I was “expecting”

Jotun is fine cause it only happens once, if Brann read as "Battlecry: your first battlecry each turn triggers twice" it would be fine at 6 mana.
as for the 1 card type vid, it did just seem like a normal HS game with some niche turns. Just surprised that neither of you came with "spell only" or "minion only" decks.
If you want another vid idea the cost of your cards must match the turn, i.e. odd cost cards on turns 1, 3, 5, 7, etc & even cost cards on turns 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, etc) imagine trying to clear a board on turn 8 as warrior and you can't use brawl. Or decks that only have 1 keyword.

Hey Rarran, some feedback about the previous video with Roffle - I think it would do much better if you actually made some decks specifically meant to succeed in that challenge. Waching just slower and shittier standard is not very fun imo. Not sure how you build around a limit like that but I'm sure crazy custom decks would make it more fun to watch. This way it was just pure agony to watch you 2 suffer, not being able to play anything meaningful at times and also making tons of mistakes because it felt you were both genuinely frustrated at times. I also prefer Eddy in cooking weird decks and playing weird rules formats but that's just personal preference, nothing against Roffle.
Btw this all comes from a person who played HS from release till Witchwood and absolutely stopped following the game afterwards. Some of your content was so fun to watch that it's the only reason I started following HS again, though still not playing it. My favorite formats are the expansion series, collabs with different people who either play a different game like covertgoblue or HS Legends who quit a long time ago like Reynad (that's how I found your channel, I searched Reynad to see what was he up to these days). And of course, not hard to guess, crazy deckbuilding formats with Eddy.

Didn't really watch the 1 type per turn video because it just kinda seemed too close to playing regularly? There's all spell decks that have been competitively viable, for example. I've played several all minion decks. And when you would ever play more than 1 weapon a turn anyway? Or hero card?
The 1 of each per turn could get interesting though. The title kinda made it seem like that was how it was going to work, and honestly seemed more interesting to me. Would probably favor the weapon classes, but hey. Every class has more than 1 weapon, after kobolds and the music themed expansion. Could get meme-y. Especially since you can tutor weapons for 2 mana, on every class, with a common neutral.

My takes on "one type" video:
    1) Standard and especially meta decks are boring to watch as entertainment, I see them on ladder every day. I knew from the get-go that you are going to get fucked up by the rogue deck, but more importantly, watching the well known decks is just that much less interesting unless you use it for learning purposes.
    2) It felt like the ruleset either didn't do anything or forced you to play suboptimally in a way that is not funny, interesting or unexpected. In the first game, you got royally owned by your deck choice (well deserved, btw), while Roffle just had a normal game of standard for the most part.
    3) I get that MAYBE the purpose of the video is to see how established decks would perform at certain conditions (in which cases it wasn't communicated properly enough), but I personally do not look for wackiness when looking up standard content. I like your videos on this channel showcasing some off-meta/sub-tier decks, because it gives me some insight into what I can expect from an opponent or maybe play myself, and that's not even the most appealing part of them*.
Bottom line is, I watched the video while doing dishes, and at no point was I interested enough to get really engaged with it, and that's not the case with most of your videos. It was fine, and that's about it.

Jotun is limited and Brann isn't. Highlander is supposed to be the limit to Brann but it doesn't hold it back enough. Like Jotun I think it needs a "First Battlecry you play" or something to hold it back. Still powerful but stops Excavate x2 then Ox x2 turns. They'd have to space them out to get the benefit. I love the idea of Brann but Battlecry's are some of the best things you can do in Hearthstone. Most of the big powerful effects are Battlecry. I do also agree that things that can't be interacted with are not fun. Like Auras on paladin. At least with secrets you had tech cards. Even the newer locations have tech against them. Auras however can't be touched. While it's mostly Deputy and Crusader causing snowballs, I'd love just some way to pause or slow them. This is also a reason I am worried about the change to Reno cards only needing deckbuilding restrictions. As much as I hate to get turned off by a plague or bomb shuffle into my deck it's important to have those counters in game.

I feel like Roffle pairs really well with you and leads to better videos. I can't understand why the 1 card type per turn video didn't do well when it's hard for both players to weave turns and deck build with and it's an easy concept to digest. I wonder if using a term like card type on the video which sounds like a magic phrase not a hearthstone phrase hurt the response from some.

  • @Ludacris2800
    @Ludacris2800 4 місяці тому

Brann just simply has too many issues that compounds into a huge problem for hearthstone currently and its future, and that's what I think the real kicker is. First and foremost, it's genuinely too powerful of an affect that it warps the entire meta around it and basically tells every player that if you're not playing Brann Warrior, you are more likely to lose games because of how powerful it is. Second, it really limits Warrior as a class and stifles its possible development in future expansions. Because of Deepminer Brann's simple existence, Warrior (and in extension some neutral cards) will now be basically neutered every expansion until Brann rotates because if you give Warrior too many powerful battlecries then it'll warp the meta even further. As a result, more people will complain about Warrior as a whole (When really Brann is the single and only problem the class has) and the class just gets nerfed repeatedly and probably more likely, will receive much worse cards than other classes because the devs have to balance around Brann. I personally believe that Warrior Brann needs to be changed because it will only make the game worse when it could be better. I have no issues with Control Warrior being a thing in standard, like I don't mind Boomboss Tho'grun pre-nerf or Inventor Boom comboing with mechs like Zilliax 3000 battlecry version. But it becomes a problem when Warrior is just able to destroy entire decks by shuffling 6 TNT's instead of it being like a control tech with a chance of destroying key pieces or summoning as many Zilliax's to deal more than half their opponents health if they don't have a board to take hits for them (When it's nearly impossible against a class such as Warrior with so many board clears). Even Astalor was okay until he became an unstoppable force with Brann and the most infuriating thing about that is it happened TWICE. TWICE did we have to suffer under the effects of Brann co-existing with Astalor and it's unbelievable the Devs didn't learn their lesson from how much of an outrage Neutral Brann and Astalor created and printed an even better Brann and made it so only Warrior has access to this broken interaction. Another aside is that Brann makes other Highlander decks much worse because of how much of a standout his effect is compared to the other highlander legendaries. Why play Shaman or Priest when you could just steamroll opponents with as many wincons with Warrior as possible. Anyway, like I said, I really hope the effect of Brann itself gets changed cause it's just too powerful to keep for the sake of Warrior's future and the health and balance of the game and I hope it's not just a mana nerf because they've been using that type of nerf a lot and not touching what really matters. Like, are we really happy with 1-2 mana nerfs for certain cards like Flash of Lightning or Odyn. Sure, they're impactful but they're still nerfing around what's the core of the problem.

Two suggestions: hook & retention. I think the 1 card type / turn premise was more fun to play than watch. The restriction slows the game down and make turns more complex, rather than just throwing down a silly 10-cost every turn to circumvent the restriction. Mentally stimulating for the player, slower to the viewer. You could get stuck just playing a weapon and passing, which isn't very engaging. Maybe more short cuts in the edit to splice together the juicy bits? Your viewer retention graph may look different if viewers drop from a lull in the content. I went back and noticed the start of the video doesn't have a strong hook. You usually have a solid 10-second intro to engage the first few critical seconds with a viewer. Much

I enjoy your vids even though I don't play Hearthstone anymore, it's definitely your personality that I come for. As for why the poor stats on the video, maybe the format though seemed simple and straight forward, throughout the matches it was difficult to remember the restrictions. The audience neuron is more thinking "what can i play from the hand" as opposed to thinking multiple steps ahead of "what card type are we committing to?".
Formats where you build the deck and then play as normal (well.. "normal" given these whacky formats XD) feels easier to follow along.

For me regarding the card type video, it just didn't sound very exciting. As in, you could play a game of hearthstone normally and accidentally play this format. Like I log on, que onto flood paladin and its nothing but minions except the turn 4 when they play Boogie Down or turn 3 with Muster for Battle. Or same for highlander warrior, a lot of the time its one expensive minion a turn. At times a board wipe. Dragon Priest and Zarimi. Etc. A lot of the decks as it is play a lot around one card type. The ''Oops all spells'' mage is literally made around the idea of doing just one type (and then the weapon, sure but its not essential). Or Hunter that just does spells that actually spawn minions a lot.
    You get the idea.

Hey Rarran. This is a longshot but if u ever wanted a card game to do "rate the card" with their was an old TCG called Force of Will back in the day which was how I got back into physical TCG's. Its not very popular anymore but had a peak in popularity around the same time of Hearthstone. If i had to describe the gameplay i'd say its heavily inspired by commander MTG but with a sprinkle of hearthstone. If u wanted a creator to collab with for Force of Will I'd say Ruler School TCG has been making content for the game since it came out and would have a great wealth of knowledge to be able to make a video with. Its def a very niche TCG and community so might not be worth ur time but figured I'd give u the idea regardless. Love the videos as of late keep up the good work.

You made good points about Brann, I think he honestly doesn’t need to exist. Giving that effect to one class only is not fair, and makes it so that this is really the only archetype right now for warrior
Also, the power level is honestly just ridiculous in the game, and it’s been for a while. Idk what they can do about it, but yeah.
Also, that video with Roffle was just boring tbh idk. The change didn’t seem impactful enough, and Yall were just playing meta decks. I’ve seen that countless times. Title was good, thumbnail was good. I think most of us that watch you whenever u post will watch regardless, but if I was a new viewer I would have clicked on it probably. Decided not to watch that other video no matter how often it popped up, the reason being fairly simple:
While the concept is complex the actual deck building restriction isn't.
There were basically just two possibilities, a match between normal decks (eh) or some X only decks (also not very interesting).
So the fact that there wasn't an obvious deck building consequence (even with normal decks, at worst you'll lose some tempo) killed my enthusiasm.

Hey Rarran. I came back to HS just before badlands. Big part of that was your content. Keep up the good work. The other reason was the twist format. I thought the potential that format had was great. I don’t like the power level of Wild. But saw twist as a way to use the cards I used to love playing with and don’t use anymore. The twist format hasn’t really worked out but I think there’s a gem of good format there. Spin a wheel to select 3 different expansions from all hearthstones history. Get ten packs from each and see what different combos and synergy come about that never existed before, since the power level would be much reduced compared to wild. Have a best of 5/7. I adore the expansion series. I think it could be a good successor for it when you an ecore finish that. (By the by, I think a way to spice up the expansion series would be to introduce a class ban before the deck building phase. ban ecores priest or he bans your paladin for example. Would force more creative deck building to be ingrained in the format.

The new video was kinda dull if not boring if you ask me, on first glance I thought it was a deck building restriction video but then I read the title it said per turn and you two are just playing regular decks with slightly inconvenience, so I just gave up on the video.
If you're gonna remake this format maybe make it so that you cant choose what card type, make them go by a order like : minion -> spell -> weapon -> location -> back to minion. That way you must make a new deck for it, since by your logic back then is you can just play a 30 spell or 30 minion deck and there's not more going on as content.

Thats what i was expecting. After my Magic game i was then starting to activily watch instead of having at random side noiseand was confused for like 2 minutes until i got it.
Maybe others just turned off because they expected it differently?
Also after activily watching these videos either with Rof oder eddy. I can tell you the ones that rly have stuck with me are the creative ones.

I think the problem of the previous video, from the thumbnail, at first, i thought you could play multiple cards but only 1 of each type, like 1 spell , 1minion, etc..., then once i understood, it thought why not just simply make a no-minion, or all-minion deck, and then you both just simply run regular non-special deck as though the rules didnt matter. So, i think the format/rules was not that interesting to people. But you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

    Re previous video
The thing for me that dropped the interest was the result of the concept. As both you and Roffl went in using standard decks it became a gimped match without anything "gained" from the mixup in the format. That said, customizing decks for the format would probably mean aggro zoo or some mage spell deck so it was probably gonna be rough from the start.
But already after half the vid, it was very clear that it was a best of three standard matchup. My takes at least ;*
As for title and thumbnail etc, has no impact on me. If its a vid from your main channel imma watch it

I watched the last video and I think it was fun, but the moment I realized you were using standard decks was a bit disappointing. I think it has to be said at the start, or you add a deckbuilding restriction like “you HAVE to use many card types in your deck”. It was weird seeing you playing and complaining about your rogue deck because like you decided to bring it?? It just feels like you didn’t put enough effort(but I know you did)

I wasn't a huge fan of the "only one" video. For a few reasons. It did just seem like, if you actually built decks for it, it would just be normal HS. No minion mage, aggro hunter, etc.
Second is who it was done with. All every video with Roffle is, is just him drawing on curve, and being a fucking asshole. I never get to far in vids you do with him.

On the format video, I think people like interesting combos and the singular card type makes it seem like it would be less combo-y
Edit: I just wanted to say though, I love your content and you got me back into Hearthstone. Sometimes vids will flop (not that it’s a huge flop) and that’s okay, can just learn from it. You’re a great creator no matter what :)

Feedback on One Card Type Video: While the title and explenation would have explained it, I didnt read the title properly, thought you were only allowed to play 1 card each turn, skipped the intro because I didnt read the title properly and had a misunderstanding (who needs an explenation for only 1 card each turn is allowed), was confused when I saw the gameplay, went back to watch the intro, was kinda disappointed because I thought the Idea of only playing 1 card each turn could turn out pretty cool, skipped through the matches but didnt find it entertaining, overall watch times estimated around 10 minutes

I did watch that latest video, but I did not like it as much as the other formats. I usually hyped for any video of yours! I do read the name and look at the thumbnail but I will watch it regardless.
The concept of the video was a bit hard to understand from its name on first read. Took me a second and an explanation in the intro. You guys didn't build your decks for this format exclusively, when with other you usually do. I guess the concept itself was kinda hard to play around in an interesting way.
Overall I liked watching it but it was certainly not as interesting as other formats. It seemed like you guys just played meta decks sub-optimally, while other formats felt like unique game mode, kinda.

I watched the video for like a minute and then clicked off, which I don't normally do. For me it's not that the concept wasn't clear, it's that it didn't seem particularly interesting. I saw a turn where he played a minion and then you played a couple spells, and I was like "this is just normal hearthstone, but they're not really taking it seriously", and that was kind of a turnoff. I would honestly have rather watched you guys just playing no-special-rules hearthstone and chatting. I think your special rules videos should be more evidently warping, in the sense that the limitation you impose will more obviously lead to really crazy or niche decks.

Hey, I saw a lot of comments about the One Card Type video and I just wanted to mention that I was confused initially, thinking every deck was going to be all of one type of card. I do normally pay more attention to thumbnails more than titles but please don't beat yourself up over it. I don't want you to burn yourself out.
Also, I think it would be a fun idea if you tried playing classic wow and compared the cards in hearthstone to the abilities/characters they come from. Seeing Day9 get a lot of coverage as a new player was great and hilarious.

    Hi Rarran,
I don't watch all of your videos but I do often. For me that video just wasn't as interesting. I did watch like 80% of it but I enjoy the ones with a bit more different gameplay. It personally didn't feel like the deck construction was too interesting. It may work better as a wild format or having players bring all spells and all minion decks and you need like 2 of each and face off.

The video with roffle was in my opinion just boring :)
Maybe the concept itself was poorly chosen, but it was in the end just slowed down standard games.
The other simmilar videos had, synergies with the rule changes, exploits of the rules, showcasing niche cards which are powerfull in the context of the rules etc. (I still go back and look at the albatross game sometimes :) ).
Anyway i think its nice that you ask for direct feedback from the audience and I also think it is ok to have a "bad" video after so may bangers.

I watched the "1 card type" video and personally, I think it was just kind of boring, it might be because the format itself limited "weird" combos (never forget the albatross lol). I still think you make really fun content and will keep watching you, but as you yourself said in this video, not all of them will be winners. I'm sure the next one will do great.

Hey Rarran. I'm Brazilian so English is not my first language, and for me the title was little confusing. I thought it was allowed to play one of each type, but as soon I saw the thumbnail I understood. I watched the whole video anyway because I love this kind of content. Always great when you have a challenge with another person (Eddy, Roffle, Reynad, etc).

About the "One Card Type" video, a few people have commented on the use of common standard decks and the lack of decks meant to work with the challenge. Which I agree, but I'd like to elaborate on that.
I think the issue is that the "one card type per turn" is kind of awkward to build a deck around. Building a deck meant to win with the restriction means building a minions only deck. Building a deck meant to show the impact it has on the game means putting all card types in a deck, which is still not super interesting for me.
In general, I don't think the concept gave you guys space to do interesting things, including the deck building.

As for the one per turn video - for me personally the concept just didnt sound that appealing / that different to regular hearthstone..
Good thing you showed that "board is lava" video, that one immediately sparked my interest and I watched it because I wanted to see what you guys cooked up for that condition..
As for what other games you should play - I literally just bought the lorcana starter decks for me and my buddies to play in summer, and that was in a large part due to watching your video on it in the past and you saying it's great fun. Then I thought maybe Balatro, but not really a card game per say but super addicting.. and then you mentioned both of them yourself so I am out of ideas.
You make great content Rarran, honest to heart by far my favourite card games creator. Your energy is always so positive, cheers me up and the way you make your guests always shine - whether it's Eddy, Weasel Tunneler herself or the other people, the videos are always a blast, so please don't go too hard on yourself. There are many like me who you bring genuine joy to with almost every video

The reason I wasn't interested in the only one card type per turn video was because it just wasn't an interesting concept. Unless you're playing some form of combo deck, the rule doesn't sound like it changes anything, while the other ones (No board, auctioning our decks, blocking) are real changes from the norm of hearthstone. The 1 card type per turn is just the normal curvestone experience.

    Idea for a video
-Try to reach legend with the "core deck recipe" that Hearthstone provides you.
*Those ones when you pick a class in the deck crafting area, and you have 3 deck recipes that HS shows you.*
    Or
-Win a game with every deck recipe from every class.

I watched the video; but I found the idea of not making the decks for the occasion very weird... but at the same time you could make an only spells mage, most probably druid and such... and the concept would lose its shine really quick.
Maby reframing the format or announcing on the title that its "standard" (or wild) decks playing with your own weird twists... maybe make a quick roulette with different conditions and play each game with one, and one could be only one type of card per turn.

I saw the intro of the video. And it kinda didnt click? Maybe it was bit too complicated. Maybe I just thought, oh well, you play only one card most of the turns anyway so big woop? Or if you are a zoo deck you just play minions anyway.
Maybe the concept isnt a gripping if the standard currently features a no minion mage?
I have to admit, I just let the video run in the background without paying much attention to it, but still give ya the view.
