  • In this video, I cover how to ride a horse for beginners. Learning how to ride a horse is a fun and exciting experience! If you are new to horses, curious about the steps, or considering riding for the first time this should help get you started. I start the video with a couple safety tips and then walk through all the steps from brushing a horse to steering.
    If you are a beginner (or at any level) I hope this gives you guidance on how to ride a horse. There is much more to learn, and I encourage you to seek knowledge if you are just starting your horsemanship journey. You can also follow this channel! I release new content every week :)
    DISCLAIMER: Remember to always have a qualified equine professional around when first starting to learn how to ride a horse. This helps to keep you safe and enable a positive first-time experience.
    Have a great day and I'll talk to you in the next video! 😊

      For all of you in these replys/ comments in general, I'd highly recommend going to farms or barns. My mother's saying is very true, and it goes "Horseless life is the easy life"
      They cost a shit ton, from food, to vet bills to care and new equipment. Here where I live we can rent horses, not sure about the us or where y'all live, but renting might be another great option if you want to get a feel for it.
      But yeah, think about it thoroughly, especially if you've only gotten a love for the animals recently (especially from a game) ^^

    As someone whose been riding since I was 3 (my father started me on miniature ponies) and I’m 28 now, this is a good guide for people who’re new to interacting with and riding horses, the most important thing I tell people who ask me about horse riding is “remember that it’s a living creature with its own feelings, it’s not a vehicle, it’s your friend, treat it as such”. My family been riding horses both just for fun, but also for hunting and trekking through the woods for generations and we always prioritize the horses feelings over all else, to me, I treat all my horses like there my own children, give them love, attention, entertainment and fulfill all there physical and emotional needs. And bare in mind, I love in some pretty still wold country with lots of predators so I not only have to care for my horses, I have to protect them from bears, wolves, and on rare cases even mountain lions

      Chris Halliwell Western is a bit easier, and you only have to have the reins in one hand, unlike English, in which you have to have one rein in each hand. In my opinion it’s better to start off riding western since the saddle is bigger, making it less of a task to balance. There are some other more detailed factors, but overall, that’s why I’d recommend western. At least for a beginner anyway.

    Steering making sense. I will try that closing the door analogy . Brilliant thank you

    • @Ironsmithfarm
      @Ironsmithfarm 2 роки тому

      She actually got it backwards. When you want to turn left, you close your left leg on the horse, not the right. And vice versa.

    • @u.v.s.5583
      @u.v.s.5583 Рік тому

      @@Ironsmithfarm The two legs have totally different tasks. The inner leg (left) sends the inner hindleg more forward and transfers the weight to the outer hindleg of the horse so that the outer hindleg stays longer on the ground and the inner hindleg might step forward. This creates the bend. The outer leg of the rider limits the swing of the outer hindleg out of the bend. In other words: the outer leg guards (closes the door). The inner leg activates.
      Now horse is a part of the equation. Horses learn. They can be taught to initiate the turn from a touch with the inner leg or the outer leg, or from either leg, getting the rest of the information from the seat of the rider. So there are infinitely many variations of how you can turn a horse. However, if you want the universal language, if you want to be as clear as possible to the horse and help him do what you want to do, you activate with your inner leg and guard with the outer leg, and you do it in a calm, supple, balanced fashion, feeling how much information this particular horse needs in order to produce a nice correct turn :)

    Ok so with the steering, another good way (this is what i have been taught) is if you wanted to turn left for example, you would kind of "open a door" and pull the left rein out, and keep the right rein inwards. I dont know if that would help, but it is much easier.

    I love on a farm in basically the middle of nowhere, with lots of siblings and plenty animals, including horses. As a result of this, I and my siblings basically taught ourselves to ride, using our in depth knowledge of our own horses and basically just reading their body language to learn how to handle, care for and ride, but this is really interesting to see how riding techniques are actually taught, in comparison with how I taught myself. Though it is practically the same, there are always ever so slight nuances. I always make sure to apply these techniques in my next rides, to see how my horse responds to it, and if it allows him to enjoy himself more while we’re out together, I tend to try to do it more often.

      It is actually difficult to teach. Teaching beginners on perfectly trained horses can be incredibly expensive since you can only have the perfectly responding horse for very few lessons in a week, so you would need to charge incredible amounts for a single lesson. So lesson horses give lessons all the time, and the instructor needs the poor lesson horse to move to whoever the given beginner is. So the instructor is forced to ask the student to kick the horse, even if his heart bleeds for the mount.
