Thank you - IUA-cam has placed its own ads - I have no control over that - I get NO money from this. I can only suggest install an AD BLOCKER for PC based web browers that will remove the ads.
Thank you very much for doing that! Some certain channel even interrupts all the UA-cam adverts with her own homemade ones begging for money for uploading BBC content!and they come in quite randomly,in the middle of words, and often at critical moments! Most off-putting.So nice when a channel is run by someone who actually appreciates the radio plays too. Won yourself a subscriber for the principle 😊
I binge listened to his work when I heard one last year but, like you, don't remember hearing this. I really enjoyed it & love the way he draws you in to the characters and the storyline.
Is it just me? But 2 minutes in and I didn't like the wife. I don't think He needs a jealous person to destroy his marriage. She's doing it all by herself.
Oh I am so glad that someone else felt the same. I wanted to hit her, she was the lynch pin of all his troubles. But of course it is fiction and added to the tension, though there was still a good plot without her melodrama. Whalley’s dramas always have some character like her, I think he must have known someone personally to model them on.
Of all the great plays of Peter Whalley this was the best, never heard this one before.I live in hope of finding another of his plays that I haven't heard,a master of radio plays.
I noticed your channel name is Denbighlad. Over 40 years ago I worked for Denbigh Animal Hospital in Newport News, VA/US. I didn't realize until later in life that the original Denbigh is in Wales. 😊
The poor guy's wife is greatly responsible for what happened, being destructive with her reaction and unsettling him in depth and for so long. And he being too foolish, and dependent on her moods... "guilty" of being foolish and dependent. His wife and the politician neighbour would deserve each other. 😊 *And both of them punished themselves for it in the end. Great writing
Great story.... Very well written. Claire's character reminded me of many insecure women that dig themselves into their own pit of sorrow behind situations they've created inside their own head.
⭐👍Wow! A brilliant story, Completely captivating, right up to the end. Superb narration.👏⭐ listening in Donegal, Ireland ☘🇮🇪 Thank you so much for sharing.❤
Was the 2 nights an insinuation on the last twist of the plot - the man who truthfully denied the illicit relationship with "Melissa" now actually has it b/c the cover up irreparably damaged his marriage and he is now actually seeking solace from "Melissa"?. This was an UNBELIEVABLY EXCELLENT production on every account - writing, acting, directing - incredible.
With an apartment and not wanting to get caught, if he had a gf then he would never have taken her to any hotel. No wife would decide up front her husband would cheat and would forgive him up front. Fairy tale.
The Hospitals are A LOT different these days... Can never get an answer from switch board!!! Or the ward!!!! And they wouldn't tell you ANYTHING if your not a relative . ...Oh for the good old days!!!
SPOILER-SPOILER-SPOILER…. Good grief - why didn’t he just go to the police when the guy wrote that he wanted money - they said they could act if money was demanded.
Good story. One thing makes no sense. There were no photos of him....he was not close to the neighbor, nothing vested in him....zero reason to get murderously angry. He never would have jumped the man who was not blackmailing him. As well, the neighbor said his marriage meant nothing, there was nothing there Then at the end cites it's being so important, baseless, it was half the reason he suicided. Meh
*SPOILER ALERT* He didn't mean to murder him - he was angy this man has ruined his marriage and the anger boiled over when the blackmailer started making demands! The sheer nerve of the fella is why he got punched - his death was not intented. Makes sense to me the way its portrayed.
If the characters, including the wife, wasnt as they were the story wouldnt be as it IS ... enjoy it and stop with the criticisms. Enjoy P.W's work !!!
the reading was excellent, the story was well written, however, i cringe at imagining being married to such a dingbat. take the blackmail letters as a gift from on high, and here's your chance to get out
Wow! This is thee best radio program I’ve heard so far!! I’ve been taken with these British radio programs for a few months now. Catching one or two a night while doing outside chores and the storyline acting suspense everything! Was just great!! Hope to catch these actors in more stories!
It didn't go in the direction I thought it would. I thought the twist would be that when he went to the motel to see Melissa that the photographs of him would have been taken, and then sent as proof.
I always found the one that is so suspicious was usually the one that was really doing what was accused of... or they want to start a fight to easier end their relationship.
I was really caught up in this. I wanted it to end when the Lawyer Friend admitted it and the accused could have made him own up to all and sundry. It had me on edge. Strange to say that. It got me so involved and tesnse. WOW, the acting was so real. John (Australia)
You’re a student… you’re expected to do menial work. When I was in collage, my folks said “come on up to our cabin in Oregon for spring break, bring your friends”! Cabin was a large, full wall of windows looking over the Deschutes River! We showed up and found gallons of paint, and instructions to paint the entire interior!
Have you seen all the episodes? If you want to make comments below, I'd be glad to read them. Would love to discuss.... Thanks. *SPOILER ALERT* There will be comments about plot below. Come back later ... if you want the suspense of not knowing. Thanks. This is my furst time listening to a play by Peter Whalley. Online, discovered he's written many, many many episodes of the British soap, *Coronation Street.* He's a great writer! Loving this story.
*By end of episode 1, there'd been a number of clues, or red herrings!* - blackmail, it's usually someone you know - the daughter's *boyfriend* is writing a story about law, he's a lawyer, I think. He may be the red herring, or maybe not! - *the wife* could be testing him! He may have had other dalliance that she's seen signs of, but she hasn't been able to pin him down! You're very clever, she has implied he's cunning: that he'd be two steps ahead of any investigation she might do into a real-life love affair. When he set up the company, going out on his own, he'd told her there'd be lots of travel involved! In Episode One, or possibly beginning of next one, she has said she had been expecting him to be unfaithful, and had in her own way accepted it as part of marriage. We don't yet know what her career is, I skipped a bit, maybe it was said already, or that becomes part of a future plot point. - protagonist has history of someone who kept themselves hidden or secret giving him a hard time; happened when he was young, playing sports, and someone he had bested on the field was getting their own back by causing problems: a revenge motive: with ENVY suggested. One suspect, unlikely possibly, but unlikely things happen in mystery fiction (as in life!) is the next-door *neighbour* who is clearly henpecked, and possibly he's envious of the happy marriage. The fact that neighbour suggests *his detective* embroil neighbour further in plot! Nice array of suspects and red herrings. . By beginning of Episode 3, am wondering if it's the man himself! Seems improbable. He says he's fighting for his marriage. But wife suggests he's cunning. We are not seeing any psychological complexities in dialogue, no gaslighting for example, so relying on details given in plot.
Absolutely brilliant! More of Peter Whalley, please!😊
Just started this IS IT HIS WIFE...AND HER LOVER?????😂
That was Absolutely Fabulous.... Thank you....
Thank you! and, thank you BBC! 😂
Probably the best story I have encountered on any channel. Perfectly acted, no ads , clear as a bell and held my attention to the very end. 👍👍👍
Thank you - IUA-cam has placed its own ads - I have no control over that - I get NO money from this. I can only suggest install an AD BLOCKER for PC based web browers that will remove the ads.
@@denbighlad70- excellent job, thank you.

Congratulations to all involved.
Bloody fantastic - author director actors Listened non-stop.
I throughly enjoyed listening to the play.
Thank you. Hands down one of the best audio dramas ever uploaded on UA-cam. I enjoyed this immensely💯🙏🔥🔥🔥💖
Peter Whalley, tells such amazing stories. i wish he were still alive. I've not heard this one, thought i had heard them all
Hadn't heard this one ,either!!.
I binge listened to his work when I heard one last year but, like you, don't remember hearing this.
I really enjoyed it & love the way he draws you in to the characters and the storyline.
Never heard of the writer, brilliant story. ❤
Half way through and I LOATHE the wife! If I was the husband I’d walk out on her
Totally agree
Can’t imagine why he’d want to stay with her, think she’s mental.
Is it just me? But 2 minutes in and I didn't like the wife. I don't think He needs a jealous person to destroy his marriage. She's doing it all by herself.
Half way through and I have lost patience with her
Two minutes in.. the wife! felt the same..
Oh I am so glad that someone else felt the same. I wanted to hit her, she was the lynch pin of all his troubles. But of course it is fiction and added to the tension, though there was still a good plot without her melodrama. She behaved as if he wasn't there. Just ignoring him.
I think if you had listened to the rest of the production, you might have changed your mind.
Sheer genius from Peter Whalley. Thank you!
Superb drama with twists . More from him please
I loved this. Peter Whalley was a fantastic writer. Thank you so much for uploading ❤
Such twists! Clever story and love the acting. Love these productions from the BBC. Wish we had all of this kind in the U.S.
Peter Whalley is a genius playwright! Have listened to all I could find of his work multiple times and so very delighted to have found this. Thank you
Of all the great plays of Peter Whalley this was the best, never heard this one before.I live in hope of finding another of his plays that I haven't heard,a master of radio plays.
Me neither. I thought I heard all his plays x
That was excellent! Thank you. I was listening to get to sleep, but it was so gripping, I had to hear the end.
Same with me. I'll feel like sh.t tomorrow now lol
Brilliant script as usual by Peter Walley 👍🥰
Peter Whalley never disappoints. Peculiar talent to almost always get a thriller right.
Thanks for no ads! 😊
Superb. Thank you.
Very good. Been a bit lost since Thinking Out Loud finally threw in the towel
Very clever...I hope there are more undiscovered stories from Peter, thought I'd heard them all.
Thank you! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Love Peter Whalley stories. Great to hear a “new” one. His writing is timeless👏👏👏. Hope there are more. Keeping his memory alive.

I like Peter Whalley’s plays but 30 minutes in I’m finding the wife highly annoying.
Thanks for uploading this though 😊
That was an exceptional story. Very complex and engaging. Thank you for posting.
The poor guy's wife is greatly responsible for what happened, being destructive with her reaction and unsettling him in depth and for so long. And he being too foolish, and dependent on her moods... Absolutely superbly acted. Another great play. ALL HAIL PETER WHALLEY!
Whoa! This was terrific! Lots of curve balls. Leaves a provovative questionmark at the end. Genius
Excellent
Good twists
Will listen to it again
Well the silly wife was half to blame.
Great story.... Very well written. Claire's character reminded me of many insecure women that dig themselves into their own pit of sorrow behind situations they've created inside their own head.
Excellent.. just like all Whalley's plays! Thank you.
Nothing I could say that hasn't already been said except thank you BBC.
Excellent, just what we expect from Mr Whalley. What a horrid wife, really enjoyed the implied ending.
I'm writing this just before the end , I'm hoping for a final twist!
⭐👍Wow! A brilliant story,
Completely captivating, right up to the end.

I came across when the Peter Wally's story is quite by accident here on UA-cam and I fell in love
If only the characters had thought to act with the most basic common sense.
Would have made for a very dull story though.
Brilliant drama, and actors totally contributed to the enjoyment
With an apartment and not wanting to get caught, if he had a gf then he would never have taken her to any hotel.
No wife would decide up front her husband would cheat and would forgive him up front.
Fairy tale.
Excellent, thank you for posting this chef d'œuvre 🙏
Kept my interest
Oh brilliant ❤
A wife who doesn’t trust him after years, a lousy friend, and so long…. Haven’t heard the end, but so far very predicable.
Please listen til the end, will be worth it!
The Hospitals are A LOT different these days... Can never get an answer from switch board!!! Or the ward!!!! And they wouldn't tell you ANYTHING if your not a relative . ...Oh for the good old days!!!
Yes, those gardens that always look immaculate yet no one ever seems to be working on them.

Thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic presentation. The actors were great, particularly the main character, Richard.
The actors are amazing. Everybody was great love the story.❤
Really not struck on the wife's voice..a bit too BBC English.

Methinks the lady doth protest too much.
The best story I've heard yet - wonderful acting and even more wonderful timing. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, like the other comments this is new to me and throughly enjoyed it.

First time posting a comment on a program - but this was an excellent story right to the end
This is really good. Ads were super annoying at times. Otherwise, a great story and really well acted.

What a way to be introduced to Whalley's work! Outstanding. By the way, did the cops even try to find fingerprints at the scene?????
Absolutely amazing. What a great story. Thank you very much for sharing!!!!

This is an excellent one! Thank you 😊
Oh I thank God I found these especially Peter hope I pronounce it correctly Wally marvelous
Great story love Peter Whalley
This is great stuff. New to me. I've been on a news blackout, and this stuff has been perfect for sharing space with an ostrich.
He could confess the assault to his wife, couldn't he? She would probably have understood .... 😅
Thank you , really enjoyed listening to this

Bravo! More plot twists and turns than a mountain road along with great voicing. I wish there would be a part 2.
Terrific play. I thought Adele was going to turn out to be the blackmailer until almost the end.
Cheers for the spoiler alert 😮
I loved this, thank you!!
Superb production 👏. Thank you. Peter Whalley was a very accomplished writer and always delivered a great story. This one was new to me.

Ooh! You're supposed to put a spoiler alert! Some people get quite upset when the ending is given away! 😁
You are a naughty boy John!!! Giving away story lines. Tut, tut!
Abominably clever.
Very very good in every way! The writing, the acting, production are all first-rate. Now I must learn more about the author!
Ok story. Predictable. Just a tad sexist.
Groan.........
Great!!!!!!
Did he or didn't he ?
Brilliant!
