    This is a magnificent collection. I really enjoy the pirate sequences in secret of unicorn to this day. I also remember there was a tiny cross over between Tintin and Jo, Zette and Jocko, where they ran into each other in one of the books.

    Hey, Mr. Grey! Just want to make sure you've heard the news about My Favorite Thing Is Monsters volume 2. Fantagraphics confirmed it will come out next April. A long wait, but I didn't think it was ever coming out. They are also putting out the "extras" book that was in the Love & Rockets boxed set as a solo book. And they are translating the Search & Destroy manga.

    I’ve recently started reading my boxset of Tintin books. Unfortunately, they are just softcovers, and they are all the redone versions. I’m only up to the Black Lotus. I like them but I think I would be way more into them if I had read them as a child first. I also recently got a hold of some albums of Spirou & Fantasio as well but I haven’t been able to dig in yet.

    would love to get this set, in Serbia Tin Tin was very popular in the past but never was published in this big and complete albums, it is a shame. Only two albums collecting first 5 stories was printed.

    "Die Kunst von Hergé" (3 volumes for about 600 pages) seems to be an extremely condensed translation of "Hergé : chronologie d'une oeuvre" (7 volumes for about 3000 pages) which is considered a reference among books about Hergé in french.

    • @earlgrey862
      @earlgrey862  Рік тому +1

      it's by Philippe Goddin & while I could not get enough of Hergé's art... the text feels absolutely not very condensed, rather loosely meandering and skipping between events in the tintin-fiction and the hergé-reality... but yes: now you made me curious about these French tomes

    Tintin is still in print in Portugal, but I do wonder if it will appeal to younger audiences who are growing up watching anime and CalArts. Ligne claire is the perfect mix of subtlety and simplicity. May be too complicated for present day kids, while appearing undeveloped.

    • @LukSter18998
      @LukSter18998 6 місяців тому

      it’s really terrifying that people don’t appreciate ligne claire as much as they could. it might be harder for kids to find TinTin or others when no one’s finding it for them?

    I do have all of the Tintin books (aside from Alph Art) although they're currently spread all around the house and not in the best condition (due to them being my childhood copies).

I can read them 100 times and stories will be still awesome like a first time read ! That’s a quite hefty collection of Tintins. Not sure how completionist you are but there was one more Tintin album published: Tintin at Sharklake. However it was not made by Herge so it’s not part of the canon. That album is compiled from the frames of a Tintin cartoon of the same name. It exists in Finnish but I’m not sure what other translations were made.

    • @peybak
      @peybak Рік тому +1

      I also remember having a book that was made from a Tintin movie, I think Tintin and the Golden Fleece.

    • @analogcomics
      @analogcomics Рік тому +1

      @@peybak As I understand ”Fleece” album was not actual comic but text with illustration taken from the movie. It’s not available in Finnish but there has been english version. I bet that would be a collectors item today😊
      Sharklake seems to be the only from-cartoon-to-album that was in a comic format with speech balloons etc.

      yes, in German it's called "Tim und Struppi und der Haifischsee" which is just the literal translation & maybe I should add it to the collection... maybe not. What do you think about Hergé's alleged instruction to not continue Tintin after his death?

    • @peybak

      @@earlgrey862 I am somewhat ambivalent, as I like the later stories as they are kind of serious but I also think that they're not as good as say the Blue Lotus. It's also interesting to know that sometime in the 2050's, Tintin enters public domain, unless they publish a book. It might be exciting if I am around by then. But will people even care?!

    If you want to compare what was first published in the magazines and newspapers with what was published in the albums you need to buy Le feuilleton intégral. Unfortunately it is not intégral at all because the series was interrupted, but there are a few expensive thick books out there...

      @@earlgrey862 He he... By "expensive" I mean 90 euros, or something, but I saw one go on Katawiki for 50, so... I guess these will become more and more expensive as they become scarcer and scarcer. Tintinophiles are pissed off because the putative 12 books collection was interrupted after just five volumes. This happened because of some litigation between Casterman and the Rodwells.

    ...why Örl, why?😂 Mit Hergés Ligne Claire ist das wirklich eine faszinierende Sache. Ich bin mir mittlerweile sicher, dass hauptsächlich Kinder und Jugendliche oder ältere Menschen, wie wir, für diesen Stil empfänglich sind. Ich jedenfalls habe sehr lange gebraucht mich wieder mit dieser Stilrichtung anzufreunden und das obwohl ich Tim und Struppi als Kind geliebt habe.
    Mit einer Hergé Sammlung werde ich aber trotzdem vorerst nicht starten, denn sonst würde mein Komplettisten Radar wieder anspringen und das wäre tödlich für die Finanzen (...das sagt einer der für Beatifica Blues 80 Euronen verbrannt hat😂😂😂).
    Das was dir aber genau so viel Spass macht wie mir, ist das Vergleichen von Ausgaben. Hier kann man so viel entdecken und sich stundenlang mit diesen Sachen beschäftigen ...und ich merke gerade, je größer die Sammlung wird, desto interessanter wird das...
    Wie auch immer, es war sehr cool den alten Hergé mal auf einem Haufen zu sehen und die Gesamtausgabe im Schuber ist ein echtes Schmuckstück.
    Danke für die Vorstellung!

      Kinder, Jugendliche und ältere Menschen?... ähh, gibt's da noch was zwischen? Ehrlich gesagt habe für mich den Eindruck vom Jugendlichen relativ schlagartig zum Oldie/Boomer und was weiß ich befördert bzw. aus der relevanten Zielgruppe gestrichen worden zu sein 🤣.
      Für Komplettisten ist T&S tatsächlich das Ende: Nicht nur die Bücher in mehreren Ausführungen und Sprachen, auch die ganzen Figuren, Autos, Spiele, Puzzle.... Ich hoffe aber dennoch für mich jetzt eine Art Schlussstrich bezüglich Hergé gefunden zu haben: Das wichtigste war mir tatsächlich auch die Schwarzweiß-Faksimiles komplett zu haben, weil das in der Form eine Einmaligkeit darstellt, ganze Comics in einer rohen Urform und in der verfeinerten Perfektion der späteren Alben zu haben... ein wenig wie Ur-Faust und Faust.

    One. One tome per volume is all you need Earl. This has gone from collecting into hording. You sir have a problem.
