I think of it this way: They knew Activision was shutting the series down, no buts about it. Instead of spending their budget on portal design or making a super complex new gimmick, they allowed us to make our own Skylanders. It's their way of saying *"we won't be able to make you new toys but at least we'll give you the tools to do it yourself, as a ferwell gift"*
well the only gimmick that was left would be to create new ones there isnt much else you can do and imaginators wasnt really a farewell gift just one last cash grab
@@methadone1140 I feel like there are a miriade of other gimmicks the could have went with. Just how they came up with "Skylanders but Police Officers" they could have found another crazy combo. The community came out with some banger ones like mixing elements (Fire+Earth=Lava etc.) Mech Riders who are like Gundam Pilots who when paired with a Mech of the same element wreck damage on the battlefield Some Weapons change Skylanders. They come with 2 weapons and you switch between them by changing the physical weapon irl. Of course you can buy more separately. (Think like Battle of Altlas if you know it) The thing is, the same gun won't play the same on 2 different Skylanders. Think of Krypt King and Thunderbolt. 2 different Trap Team Legends with vastly different movesets but they both wield the same knightly Sword. Hatchlings which you take with you and care for until it hatches into a unique character. After which you can either play as of have with you as a 2nd Player. While he is in egg form he watches you play and mimics your play style (Like Amiibo do in Ultimate Smash Bros) What hatches is entirely dependent on how you play while it hatches (If you play Flamesinger mainly he'll be bowslinger class. If you play mainly water elementals, he'll be a water elemental etc.) Skylanders which evolve to your needs like growing wings when needed, gills to swim like Darwin from X Men. And this is a community. People with no game design experience, no million dollar office especially made to come up with ideas in advance, no team behind it. Just dudes saying "What If....?" And a lot more. They even had something going if you look at what was found inside Crash N Sane with Beast Tamers who Ride Beasts. If you want to make an argument that it was a cash grab that's up to you but don't say they didn't have what to do with the series. I fully think they meant to give back to the community with Creation Crystals ( a bit of a money hungry giveback as they didn't allow resets of crystals but hey, beggars can't be choosers)

The only game (that I owned) which I gave up on was Superchargers. I enjoyed Imaginators more, mostly because I enjoyed most of the boss fights. Superchargers lacked 3 key things: 1. An actually good gimmick. It’s just SkyLanders, but _in cars._ How is that the follow-up to the masterpiece that was Trap Team? 2. The boss fights weren’t anything to be proud of. Spyro’s Adventure is often seen to have some of the worst bosses, but those are balanced out by the final Kaos fight, being my personal favourite Kaos fight. Superchargers either had boring bosses or car bosses. And I already mentioned how the gimmick was lacking. 3. It flopped considering how good the series was before it. Spyro’s Adventure has nostalgia and the best Kaos fight. I never got to play Console Giants, but I played the 3DS port and that was pretty good. Swap Force had a unique mechanic and some of the best boss fights in the series. And Trap Team is the best game in the franchise, with the most epic Kaos fight, easily second best final fight of the franchise. Even Imaginators after it had a unique mechanic and good bosses. Superchargers just lacked in all those departments and is the only SkyLanders game I fully consider to be ‘bad’.
I had the EXACT same experience as you. Except after Super Chargers I didn't even buy imaginators as well and fell off the series. Starting to get back into it though.

So recently, i remembered and found my old skylanders, and i realized that I hadn't ever beaten skylanders imaginators but remembered hearing about it not being good so I decided to see for myself and finally beat every one. So I played it and it leads me to the question, why does everyone hate this game? Its not my favorite sure but its not terrible the story is decent enough maybe a little rushed because it took me like 5 minutes to realize i was fighting the final boss because but otherwise its not a bad game
Trap Team was probably the best. They shouldve stopped with the story after Trap Team after you could pretty much play as Kaos. But i understand they wanted to make money and since Mario Kart 8 was big at the time Superchargers was relevant alongside them. Instead of making a game based on creating your own character they shouldve just added that feature on Superchargers and be updated with new maps and missions. Like a deluxe version.
I wholeheartedly agree with each one. There was a decent, but that doesn't mean skylanders had a good legacy. Giants is part of my childhood memories and boy were they wonderful. The "death" of machine ghost was absolutely heartbreaking.

Superchargers is underrated. I used to think it was the worst one, but after I saw a video where someone gave it another chance, I decided to replay it myself. And it's actually pretty good. Like sure, you have to have 3 vehicles to fully play the levels but after you get 3 vehicles, it's pretty fun. People were really hard on it cause of the vehicles initially, which is understandable, but they're actually fun to use 🤷♂️.
When I first played Imaginators, i saw references, call backs, and characters from previous games. I knew somethin was up. I was sad to find out it was the last one. I thought it was a good finale. Its far from perfect, the create your own skylander couldve been better, and the story isnt the best, but I dont care. Its the finale of the games, and a damn fun one at that.

Honestly didn't hate imaginatiors, the sensei characters were honestly pretty damn cool and the idea of making my own characters was fun! The story felt a bit short but it wasn't a bad story in all honesty the thing that made me angry, and it was petty, was that they removed hats. I NEVER used hats, but that isn't the point, it meant I couldn't remove hats from second hand skylanders anymore, not even be resetting them! Cause the hat data wasn't part of the game unless it was an imaginator. (This was only a problem for supercharger skylanders cause I didn't have that game, thanks WII release for hurting me like that)
I remember all of them besides the second before last and the last one my older brother would have those and he had a couple of posters of them really good times😭😭😭

Superchargers is incredibly underrated in my opinion; I do wish they had a proper Arena mode, but the story is one of the best in the franchise, and Kaos got proper character development for once- until Imaginators threw it out the window.
With every time I revisit Imaginators, the more I agree with Rosen. The idea of making your own playable character in a Skylanders game was quite *click* noice. However, the more I review the game's story and level design, the more incoherent it was. It slowly left a bitter taste in my mouth. Not cooking oil bitter, but bitter nonetheless. It was just a mess in the end. Activision and Toys for Bob had a huge opportunity to continue the story while incorporating the Imaginators into them, but they missed their mark. If Activision and Toys for Bob want to make a seventh installment in the series, so be it. I just wish the level design and overall story was more coherent and engaging than what Imaginators had... and to a lesser extent Superchargers.
Ok, don't get mad at me but my first skylander game I played was Imaginators. Back then, I thought it was such a good game but bow looking back at it, it was crap. The story felt rushed, even thought I've never played any of the other games. I did grow up on Skylander Boy and Girl tho. To this day, I still have all of my Skylanders, except for Wash Buckle and Freeze Blade because I traded them at school for some reason!!!
The first 3 games were just too good, I would give anything to find my old figures and play them, I still have the game discs and portals😓 but I can't find the figures
Alright This is my ranking: 6th: Imaginators (That wasn’t very nice (but not horrible)) 5th: Superchargers (A bit rich, but, okay) 4th: Spyros Adventure (Nice) 3rd: Swap Force (Really Good) 2nd: Giants (I had to reach up to get to the cherry on top) 1st: Trap Team (Tinned Peach Syrup, WHAT A DRINK!)
The only thing imaginator didn't got right was his story. And in my personal opinion the removal of the pvp mode was horrible

Skylanders spyro’s adventure was the only skylanders I played and it was very fun
Superchargers is incredibly underrated in my opinion; I do wish they had a proper Arena mode, but the story is one of the best in the franchise, and Kaos got proper character development for once- until Imaginators threw it out the window.

I think superchargers is entirely based on if you enjoy the racing sections. I personally do so i love the game.
With every time I revisit Imaginators, the more I agree with Rosen. The idea of making your own playable character in a Skylanders game was quite *click* noice.
However, the more I review the game's story and level design, the more incoherent it was. It slowly left a bitter taste in my mouth. Not cooking oil bitter, but bitter nonetheless. It was just a mess in the end.
Activision and Toys for Bob had a huge opportunity to continue the story while incorporating the Imaginators into them, but they missed their mark.
If Activision and Toys for Bob want to make a seventh installment in the series, so be it. I just wish the level design and overall story was more coherent and engaging than what Imaginators had... and to a lesser extent Superchargers.

Ok, don't get mad at me but my first skylander game I played was Imaginators. Back then, I thought it was such a good game but bow looking back at it, it was crap. The story felt rushed, even thought I've never played any of the other games. I did grow up on Skylander Boy and Girl tho. To this day, I still have all of my Skylanders, except for Wash Buckle and Freeze Blade because I traded them at school for some reason!!!

The first 3 games were just too good, I would give anything to find my old figures and play them, I still have the game discs and portals😓 but I can't find the figures

6th: Imaginators (That wasn’t very nice (but not horrible))
5th: Superchargers (A bit rich, but, okay)
4th: Spyros Adventure (Nice)
3rd: Swap Force (Really Good)
2nd: Giants (I had to reach up to get to the cherry on top)
1st: Trap Team (Tinned Peach Syrup, WHAT A DRINK!)
