Great video for learning , I'm a girl and I'm just so freaking annoyed with having to take my car in & paying someone when I can do it myself or even having to ask my Grandpa or Dad to do it for me...so I'm gonna try this myself and hopefully all goes well 👌🏼🤞🏻
The problem with trying to learn on cars is that they are usually high risk because people need them to get back and forth to work and such. Nearly everyone, male or female, who works on their cars started by working on simpler and lower risk things. Maybe practicing on a lawn mower, dirt bike, etc would be a good start? That helped me a lot when I was first trying to get started.
Thanks for this great video. Just one point you may consider -Recommended you open the oil cap inside the hood BEFORE you open the drain plug below to drain the oil. This can help extract a wee bit more used oil out of the oil pan. It also helps the used oil drain quicker. Thanks
No, the washer shouldn't be re-used per hondas service manual, but it can be. The washer is a crush washer, so when you torque down, you are actually crushing the metal down a little bit. There is a torque spec for the filter as well, but hand snug is just fine. I worked at honda for 3 years and only ever torqued the drain plugs. There is also a honda tool that you can buy that will take the filter off if it is too loose, you can also find universal filter removal tools at any auto parts store
Only tip I have is to loosen the oil filter until it starts dripping. Then wait for it to stop dripping before you remove it. It makes a much smaller mess.
I'm someone else's unfortunate son and I have a 2005 CRV. Getting to the oil filter is hell on earth, previous owner made sure to not lube the filter up before turning it in; 17 year old me did not deserve that. A friend of mine has the same issue with an 05 civic, I do not know what Honda was thinking for that gen.
You have to reset it manually. There is instructions in the owners manual on how to do it, or there are videos here on youtube. You do not need to connect a PC to the car
Thanks for the video. My Honda dealership charges a heck of a lot more for an oil change then the Ford dealership for my other car. But what is really weird is the 10 minute oil change place here in town used to be the cheapest and is now the most expensive place in town. I guess they charge for the convenience.
Thank you for showing this! I thought I was doing this wrong, but I wasn't. The shop I went to before tightened the drain plug too much. I can't get it off.
How do you reset the oil life indicator in the dashboard display. Or somehow the computer senses it and will reset automatically? Good video (succinct, to the point and with little blah blah) but incomplete without this info. Thanks!
Great idea conceptually, except this vehicle's drain plug is located at the back of the oil pan, so jacking the vehicle actually helps get it all out of the pan...
How about the liner from like a Harley gas tank different stuff then a moped. I've bean haveing one hell of a time getting it out . I acatoneed it . Metal rescued it . Purple power it . It's not desolving it just seems to crinkle an flake it's either a pvc or epoxy or abs liner your input would be great . Tryi.g to save outside paint
Before oil change, you should always remove the oil cap and dip stick since there could be some drainage left my nefew is an engineer and I am an ase master and we both agree on that term it is super important to think before working, make sure that this is the right way to do it consult with the proffesionals and you will see for your self!
The videotaping was of professional quality...Thanks for sharing. Two question: is there no need for tool to tighten or loosen the filter (to acheive a certain torque)? If the washer is not rusted, shouldn't it be reused (since its purpose is to spread the load from the screw)
8 years late response. But no need for tool on the oil filter. Hand tightening will suffice. Any more and it’ll actually cause even more problems. For the washer. Its recommended to replace each time with a fresh one. Leaks can potentially occur with a reused crush washer. With a new one, you know there isn’t any damage and/or problems with the old one.
Nice video. Still hoping I can squeeze under without jacking up car or using ramps to do the job. Didn't know about the disposable washer. Dang, what size and can it be found at a hardware store?
Thanks! very helpful! By the way if I don't have the Jack would it still have enough head room undercarriage for me to change oil? just curious whether the 3-Ton Lift Jack is a must have... thanks!
good video. i'm thinking of putting something like a plastic barrier so that when the oil comes out, it just goes straight down. though not sure how bad the initial splashing shall be. i actually put something (wide) below the drain plan to get raise it and get it closer to the drain bolt just to minimize splashing. it's also to avoid guesstimating how far the throw will be upon initial draining. why not remove the engine oil cover also before draining or during? would flow faster yes? this car has the messiest oil change for the oil filter i've done from a s2000 and a prelude and even a 84 corolla and datsun 280zx. makes a good mess when you remove the filter.
Hold up the oil filter my 07 CRV is not located that easily out in the open ! The damn thing is up and forward behind the engine and over the CV axle...so to say 2007 I believe is not correct . The only thing I can think about is the one you have is made in USA vs my Japan made unit ? Thanks
Hi, do you happen to know the maintenance schedule for the Differential Fluid and the transmission fluid on a 2010 CRV? I can't seem to find that anywhere. Thanks
Yeah I forgot to do that this time, was kind of rushing due to battery life on the camera. Check out my other video on how to do a oil change on an integra, it's older and I remove the cap first lol.
WC Vacuum method works on Acura Mdx so I thought to would try it on a CR-V. I found that It doesn’t work because the tube will only go halfway into the dipstick hole. I had to change the oil the old fashioned way.
Yeah I know, I know how to do it, just ran out of battery. I used to change oil on all these hondas and acuras at a Honda dealer in high school before starting college!
Desheng Li The drain plug can be a real bitch, and can take a lot of force. But if you still have problems removing it, get a breaker bar (or slip a pipe over your socket wrench) and it should come off. If it is stripped, then you’re going to have a problem. As far as the oil filter, nine times out of ten you can get it off by hand. But if you cannot for some reason, that’s where you get an oil filter wrench.
My dealership must use an impact gun with these bolts because I rounded off the head trying to get it off. It's so frustrating that now I have to pay them to fix their fuck up
ok great video but the music has to go..would rather hear the commentary and it would be beneficial for girls learning how to change their own oil and maintain there cars.
The CRV's didn't change to 0 weight until 2010. (Edited: Not 2011 like I first reported. See post by TheCarolinaBoy) Prior to that, it was 5w20. (My 2009 CRV is 5w20). Hope that helps dispel come confusion here. Other than that, good video and I appreciate you posting it.

I'm in the same boat... I'm female but I want to learn to do more stuff on my car. How did changing your oil go?

Me too lol
3 years later, how did it go?

Oh ya! Tx for this tip! What size wrench or socket fits the drain plug?
Keep in mind that 2007-2009 CR-Vs use 5W-20 oil. Those years have a different engine than the 2010-2011 model year, but otherwise they are similar.
Thank you.
The 2008 CR-V I just did takes 5w20 according to the manual.
2011 year takes 0W-20 according to the manual.
@@XwpisONOMA Yes, 2010-11 is when Honda put a new engine in the CR-V as part of the refresh. The newer one takes 0W-20.

Good choice of music.
Never been this pumped up for an oil change.😂
Great demonstration - simple & short but clear - thank you
My son just bought a 2011 CR-V. Glad to see it's quite easy to do maintenance on these vehicles, because I'LL be the one doing the maintenance! LOL!
I'm someone else's unfortunate son and I have a 2005 CRV. Done beautifully in a succinct yet detailed manner!

How about resetting the oil life dash indicator?
thank you, u just saved me $$239.99. damn honda dealer ship over charging
In the manual for my 2010 CRV, the drain plug torque spec slightly different at 29 ft-lb / 39 Nm.
+Bob Cady Same here, 2007 CR-V manual says 29 ft-lbs.
Thank you for showing this! I thought I was doing this wrong, but I wasn't. The shop I went to before tightened the drain plug too much. I can't get it off.
Great video can you do one doing B1 service? And changing transmission oil that would be great
If you pour the oil in with the spout at the top it lets the air in and the pour is smooth and avoids the splash as one is pouring.
Great vid, thanks, didn't know I should change the washer every time
How do you reset the oil life indicator in the dashboard display. Or somehow the computer senses it and will reset automatically? Good video (succinct, to the point and with little blah blah) but incomplete without this info. Thanks!
OK, here's a quick video on how to reset the "oil life"
ua-cam.com/video/ljpe0FzA5Yk/v-deo.html
question: not important to have car level so all the oil drains out? seems like if front end is jacked up, not all the oil will drain out. thoughts?
Great idea conceptually, except this vehicle's drain plug is located at the back of the oil pan, so jacking the vehicle actually helps get it all out of the pan...

Good video, nice camera angle. Well done, thank you.
Just changed the oil on my 08 crv. When refilling the manual states 4.4 qts. At 4.4 qts I’m at the lower end on the dipstick? Any idea why??
Changed the oil today but it's still telling me I need to change the oil i can't make the "a" service light go away

Which vegetable oil do you recommend?

great video. needed to see before doing my mothers oil change :) especially how the plug is sideways. looks like it was a bit of a mess?

There should be instructions on the owners manual to reset the oil life indicator if not consult with the professional as well.
Sure looks like drain plug and filter were put on way too tight. But he's the pro... that's why I change my own.
Good video. Can u make more maintanence videos on this year crv ? Thanks
Hi, do you happen to know the maintenance schedule for the Differential Fluid and the transmission fluid on a 2010 CRV? I can't seem to find that anywhere.
Thanks
Where exactly under the front of the crv did you place the jack?
Great video simple and easy to learn! Thanks 🙏🏻
i put new oil in side the new oil filter before i place it back on car
What size wrench for the oil pan plug?
Ryan Bauerle I'm sure this is a little late, but 17mm
What oil should i use for a 07 with 173k previous owner stated they only used full synthetic
Can you use an oil extractor, like Air Power America 5060 Topsider (available from amazon) to extract oil out then fill in new oil? Thanks!
What would the advantage be of that?
Helpful video! Thx for posting!
Great video! Very clear and well done.
Nice vid. Very detailed.
You should change oil and read dipstick on flat surface only. So in this case the back would have to be jacked up to.
Charles L the way the video is edited make it appear like it’s still up on jacks, but it is on flat ground when the dipstick is checked.
Why would u lift the vehicle up? That probably doesnt drain all the oil out.
He's not a skinny guy like you and he can't get under the car. Most normal built people can't
how do you change the oil pan on this one?
Yeah I forgot to do that this time, was kind of rushing due to battery life on the camera. Check out my other video on how to do a oil change on an integra, it's older and I remove the cap first lol.
Can I use a vacuum oil extractor to extract the old oil?
WC
Vacuum method works on Acura Mdx so I thought to would try it on a CR-V.
I found that It doesn’t work because the tube will only go halfway into the dipstick hole. I had to change the oil the old fashioned way.
Yeah I know, I know how to do it, just ran out of battery. I used to change oil on all these hondas and acuras at a Honda dealer in high school before starting college!
How can you remove the drain plug and oil filter that easy?
Desheng Li The drain plug can be a real bitch, and can take a lot of force. Because he doesn’t over tighten them like a lot of idiots do.
I have a question drain plug is hard I tried removing it any suggestions
+Danny Martinez hit the gym

Get a breaker bar
well-done video, very helpful, thanks
Deciara saber como cambiar el aceite de caja automática de Crv 2006
Very helpful. Thank you!
can you use ramps instead of jacking your car up ?
sgreen4 yep! Probably easier! Still set the emergency brake!
How much is 33 foot pound?? Is it 1/4th after hand tight
very wise investment!
Thanks for making video. Now I can change mine pretty simple.
My 2008 CRV has oil filter at the top if the engine ... internal type not can..
BTN LED petrol engine?
@@iColorado303 No...diesel cdti 2.2
You’ll want 5w-20 and I imagine having vehicle level is better to drain out all the old oil.
what engine? diesel or gasoline?
Thanks Nick!!
Very helpfull thank you!
Nice choice on the music!
great video,,, music makes me wanna dance

oil recomended for crv is 5w20 not 0w20
Nope, not the 2011 CR-V, says so right on the cap, and owners manual. Not to mention I worked for honda, and changed oil on these cars everyday.
The CRV's didn't change to 0 weight until 2010. (Edited: Not 2011 like I first reported. See post by TheCarolinaBoy)
Prior to that, it was 5w20. (My 2009 CRV is 5w20).
Hope that helps dispel come confusion here.

My 2010 CRV EXL is 0w20. It states it in the manual and on the oil cap. So it must have actually changed in 2010. Interesting info none the less.
Thanks for that information.
