Ugh! The new owner (smoker with kids) will probably wreck the hell out of the interior of this blue beauty! Sad. Talk him into buying something else! You'd take excellent care of it! But if not, I hope you find a nice Lumina for your collection.

Had a 97 we bought with 113000 on it. It had 200000 when I gave it to my daughter's fiance. Routine maintenance and a set of rear struts is all I ever did. Very reliable car.

Weather in Jersey dropped temperature drastically after Wednesday's thunderstorm. 20s in the late hours and early morning....brrrrr! And next week temperatures will be in 70s and 80s! Nuts! Beautiful Lumina! In my neighborhood I see a red Lumina, 2nd gen. This car looks much better. Have a nice weekend!

I used to have a monte carlo of around the same year, I miss the damn thing, even if it ran like shit and had a ton of issues. As for dealership's displaying old cars..the one I work at (it's a Honda dealership) used to have an old 90s accord I believe on display center showroom, they eventually had to send it to auction but they replaced it with an S2000.

I had a 97 Lumina. After I repaired the lower intake gasket on the 3.1, it was a great car. It had the infamous GM non working gas gauge until I replaced the fuel pump. Oh, I almost forgot about the "security" system that would lock me out from starting the car...

I can testify to what you're talking about Jay. My first car (yes, I got a brand new car for my first car...thank you Mom) was a 1993 Grand Am GT and I distinctly remember that, what I call "butterfly key" because it reminded me of a butterfly. The lock cylinder was completely rounded and you started the car by turning the key itself. Thieves tried to steal those cars by stabbing round files into the cylinder, but they would not rotate, the file slid around inside. It was kind of an ingenious theft deterrent system that didn't use a chip, but that most people found annoying. I didn't mind it too much, but it made an awful bulge in my pocket...lol. Mine had the 3300 V6 instead of the Quad 4. The Quad 4 had more horsepower, but was very noisy. Another interesting fact about the Lumina was, that second gen had a police package and they are very rare nowadays because most police departments preferred the Caprice at that time (for obvious reasons...it's the 5.7 LT1, I mean...yeah) so if you find one, grab it quick...lol. Very desirable just for the rarity of it. Ok, I'm done talking....nice car, thanks for sharing!!

I still have the '99 Regal GS I bought straight from GM after it finished it's promo work on the PGA tour & Sea Fair (in Seattle). It looks very stock externally, except for the SoCal Customs ducktail spoiler (Mick Jones) and the dual exhaust (with SoCal-and later SLP got them- cut outs in the bumper) and the ASC-supplied hood vents. Powertrain has been gone through- intercooler, ported & polished M-90 with a modular pulley set up, Mahle pistons, powdered metal forged rods, full Comp Cams kit spec'd by Chris Ryan, double-row timing chain (CRBS removed, oil holes blocked, very extensive rotating assembly balance work), LSD differential, GM performance trans kit. Suspension is progressive rate springs (not Eibach- they sag in the rear), AGX struts, front & rear tower braces, inner fender braces/cross bars from a Monte Carlo, brakes are from the Caddy big boy, trailing arms & swaybars are from a 9C1, LCA's are from a GTP Grand Prix. It's comfortable, quick enough, handles & brakes well, reliable, cheap to keep going, and nobody looks twice at it. Still love it; at Stoke's Custom getting a full strip & paint job. OSH-A-WA, On-tear-e-o (Canada)

My Grandmother had one of those. It quit running one day and we thought the battery was run down and we replaced the battery and it would run on the sunny days and wouldn't run when it rained. And then it wouldn't run again. We put another new battery and alternator in and it would run until you put it in gear. So we put a transmission in and it would run for another couple of weeks and then it quit again. We took it up to the transmission place and they got it to run again by doing something to the transmission and changing the spark plugs. A week later it quit. My Grandfather sold it for $500 to another mechanic and he tried putting in two different fuel pumps in it and other things and he couldn't get it to run. He sold it for scrap to the scrap yard and they did a new dealer key and code AND IT WORK PERFECTLY.

I've noticed these Lumina's were pretty darn similar to the Monte Carlo of this era. Especially with a 98 or 99 Lumina. Headlights too, pretty close molding to the Monte Carlo. Same thing with the dash panels and cluster setup, like the headlight switch location. The Lumina's were almost like a sedan model of the Monte Carlo too me. Call me crazy.

    • @trickyricky12147
      @trickyricky12147 3 роки тому

I've driven one that my friend has 1999 model year and it's very nice. Hardly any rust, being up north even and has around 58,000 miles (the last time I drove it) probably more now. Just recently, he told me it started running bad because it has the "dud" v6 option in it because I think there's more than one v6 the Lumina's came with. Also, the car was hardly ever driven by his great grandmother. No longer around. That could also be why. Rust is starting to happen on the rear quarters above the wheel arch and right under the gas door. It's like a yellow-ish gold-ish color from the factree. Now a two owner cuz the original owner is no longer with us. I think the reason behind it is because the 3100 was known to leak coolant into the intake, hopefully that's not the case. I'm not 100 percent on that yet. VERY, VERY COMFY RIDE IT SURE IS. Me and you both can see why these are great cruisers, Jay! Incredible for a front wheel drive car. That's saying a lot in my opinion. I usually don't give much appreciation to FWD era cars.

It looks like it was kept in a garage or some sort of cover. I am surprised at how much damage the sun (and rain etc) does daily. My 97 mercury sable (which was a comfortable and fun car to drive) basically started self destructing around 90k. The dash exploded and it kept killing speed sensors. Let me add I also had a 92 six banger Corsica that was one of the fastest cars I’ve ever owned. 90s stuff I’ve always liked.

I think in about 10 years from now I might be able to sell it for what i bought it for $5,000. dollars in 2002 w/ 17k miles. My dream has been to buy a car, drive it and then decades later sell it for the same price i bought it for....this lumina is the ticket. Wow you don’t even see these in the state of Wisconsin, my sister used to have a 97 Malibu that kind of look like this. Although hers rusted out, I guess that’s what you get for living in the rust belt, we even had a 2000 Malibu with the same rust problem that even look like this too.

I had a 90 Lumina and he's not lying about the giant key for that car.

Didn't know these Lumina's came with manual windows. This is the first one I've seen with them.

That poor thing. He will call you when he wants to sell it when half the front seat is burnt, and the rear is full of melted candy and crushed cereal..

Most of the Luminas of this vintage are beat to hell. This one is a survivor to be sure.

They might still be rolling around back in Venezuela along with the big marquis and caprices sedans as trans state transport cars.

I want a monte carlo of that style. Had an 03 and have an 06 currently. Just always thought they looked cool even tho they are pretty plain looking. I just think the plain look is clean.

A car is not just transportation. A car is a privilege, and should be treated so. Am I the only one that names my vehicles? My Toyota IM is Itsie, and my Excursion is Ruby.
