In my opinion what makes Guardiola so consistently dominant is his importance on good passing. It is the foundation to everything and he is fanatic about training it thoroughly. Just think about it, if you don't receive the ball perfectly in motion on the foot that you are strong with, then it will take you a bit of time to handle such ball giving the opponent more opportunities to win the ball in their pressing, you might even have a bad first touch because of a poor pass and the opponent can grab the ball. Guardiolas importance on near perfect passing is basically risk management and giving his players more time to think about what to do next and focus on the opponent to stay calm while getting pressed since passing just beomes second nature to them. You might say "they only play short passes" the completion rate for Man City this season is the highest on average in all categories from small - medium - long distance passing which just lays such a strong foundation for being consistent. You might say they only played 4 games so far, then let me tell you that this fact is true for the last 7 season, they have been the best in passing period which then just leaves extremely little room for the opponent to punish you cause there are just less opportunities.

If a manager fails to beat these two guys or well-drilled defensive sides, I always judge whether or not they have what it takes to be a top manager in the best league in the world.
Milan outwitted slot too… for about 10 minutes. Milan took advantage of the fact that they had a 6 that could receive the ball and pass it without giving it away. Then slot told TAA to bomb forward as much as possible and dealt with Milan’s attack effectively with a back 3. That eliminated the spaces in midfield Milan had taken advantage of. The result was dominance. Your self indulgent paragraph notes that teams adjusted to Liverpool but somehow never takes into account that slot is one of the most tactically flexible managers in the world. Making adjustments is his bailiwick.
Lewis is just a new position Pep created. Plays like an inverted full back but is actually a runner to by pass the mid block. Has license to go forward to overlap any space in that split second the mid block loses shape. It is Pep's solution to teams crowding the centre and letting City play wide.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I saw something similar from Toni Kroos in the Euros for Germany. Picked up space deep in his half, on the wing almost like a left back and was pinging passes in different directions. I think Pep found that useful but tweaked it so KDB can be more effective in attack as well. Also Kroos' primary role was as a 6 in the Euros whereas De Bruyne is playing a freer 8 role, I think that's why he drops well into the space between the fullback and the winger and it also helps make the pitch bigger for playmaker supreme to pick out runners and he has some fast runners this season with Doku, Haaland and Savinho.

As a Man City fan, I will really miss Pep. In all of his season, he has constantly changed his tactics and gameplay to stay one step ahead of others. He is such a mastermind
Every time JJ trots out the "pep has won all but 3" thing he does Liverpool dirty in 19/20. This example is the least worst offender of them but that was still the earliest prem win for a team and the lead at the point of the covid closedown was already huge.
He justified his point. Liverpool won that season by massively over performing XG on both sides of the pitch as far as I remember. It took good form, a lot of luck and city having injuries for Liverpool to beat them. Pep not winning the league is the exception to the rule
I don't think City having injuries is a factor. Liverpool won 26/27 games to start with (and 26/28 pre-covid). Not even City have ever gone on a run like that. The other points, fair.
@@edivaldonunes3386 City had 18 points less than they had the previous season, with the same manager, I’d have to go and compare the squads but I don’t think their starting squad was 18 points worse. The thing about pep is apart from his tactical genuis.... He is the best at squad rotation throughout the season... Not counting this season( cus he hav lots of player options) , for the past 2-3 season his squad wasn't that big.... He just knows how to rotate them to keep them fresh & fit, free from injury, unlike other teams who consistently used almost same lineups throughout whole season all competition
He basically has two starting caliber players for each position on the team. They had a lot of key injuries last season and still were able to field a world class team. Look at how arsenal and Liverpool collapse when one key player goes down because they don’t have that same luxury.
How does he have lots of player this season? Replaced Sergio Gomez with academy left back. Replaced Micah with Mcatee. Alvarez left, Savinho came. Gundo is the only extra player which came, but KP got loaned since season start. Numbers didn’t change, but squad quality improves significantly with Gundo. Savinho does help reduce the right wing burden but Alvarez missing posses big problems if Haaland gets injured. Sergio Gomez is an exponentially better player than that academy left back, but Pep never needed to play him, so I won’t count it.
@@CarlosRojas-hr6msthats the genius of pep, they only look like starting caliber because they have a proper structure where some players who can play multiple position can fit right in. There’s no drop off like from a Saliba to rob holding which lost arsenal the league or van dijk to nobody for Liverpool because all their center backs are always injured
So happy Pep gave up those ridiculous tactics from last season. That wingback system with a back was a mess and we were so open defensively, that every team I could think had several great chances to score on the counter. For example, we conceded 133%+ more goals from the counter attack last season than we did the season before; with 6 PL games to go last season, we had already matched or exceeded the total number of goals conceded in each of the 3 previous seasons in their entirety; we had the worst ranked defense in the league against the counter attack. The risk we took on sure did not seem be countered by whatever upside was granted. I love Pep and I know this might be harsh, but I could argue that the City squad won the PL last season in spite of Pep and not because of him as has been the case previously. For anyone who disagrees, a perfect comparative example that illustrates my point would be to look at the last games we played vs RM last season vs the treble season. In 2023 when we went to the Bernabeau, Pep went conservative with his defense: flat back 4 and the game was tied 1-1 and then in the second leg when we smashed them, he went a back 3 while inverting Stones. This past season, and given all the defensive problems his wingback system had, especially with the counter attacks, he decides to play the same super aggressive WBs and a back 2 against arguably the best counter attacking team in the world. Not to mention, even with Walker injured, he still had Akanji (who I think is one of our best defenders but no WB) play as a WB and push up past the 1/2 way line vs Vini Jr. Let that sink in. Akanji above the 1/2 way line vs the best LW in the world. Make it make sense. And so is it any wonder that of the 4 total goals we conceded, 3 came down the right flanks and all were on counter attacks? For me, I think Pep's refusal or inability or whatever to adapt his tactics is was ultimately led to us losing vs RM. We were def the better overall team, and what makes it worse, is that during the treble season, Pep was so richly rewarded for his ability to adapt his tactics (as shown in the RM games during the treble season) and yet he did the complete opposite last season. In the end, I am just hopeful and praying that he stays away from the back 2 with WBs this season...
You don't actually think that do you? Obviously united and chelsea have had a higher net spend to finish 6th and 8th last season. As a city fan, city is very vulnerable in squad depth. No replacement of key players like Rodri, Haaland or KDB. We are 1-2 injuries away from getting kicked on our face. Hope we sign new players soon
Haaland is the only valid worry tbh, you can play without Rodri with a bit of formation Change as he's done in the fiirst 3 games of the season. KDB less so of course you want him in the team always but with Foden who hasn't even statted this season it isn't as big a blow before mentioning B. Silva & Gundogan who can all do a job as creators & or as Goalscorers
Lovely analysis as usual. However, a few silly errors: Arsenal are NOT playing "four centre backs" in any sense 😂 They really don't play that shape and one of the fullbacks is usually very attacking. Rice is also not used as a 'defensive' player anymore but has advanced into the 8 role. Liverpool have already varied their approach quite widely in their opening three matches. Slot did not use the same structure or possession strategy. 🤔
Imo as long Pep stays you'll need luck to stop them (lost agains Real Madrid on penalties) off the pitch they could be stopped by getting convicted for their 115 charges

Fantastic job and beautiful breakdown of cities playbook
You laugh, but Jamie Vardy is still the top scorer against Pep's Man City. Including 2 hat-tricks. That's more than Erling's scored against Pep, or Leicester...
Never expected to see Peter Crouch hosting on here.
The only thing stopping City is the 115 charges all premier league teams know
Yeah cuz they'll all weak small clubs so boring winning with my oil club. No competition 😔
@@masterchief1520no competition in being morally rotten to the core and detached from football's roots and values
@@chesterbe76well Man city has done nothing of bad , in spain and italy they pay referee and we want to criticize Man city for have paid money for players, they haven t Mbappe and Vinicius close to Haaland
@@chesterbe76 Detached from football and it's values. Oh my I just found a saint. And which innocent little club do you support?
@@chesterbe76’detached from footballs routs and values’ Jesus mate your pretty lost if you think every club isn’t the same. Talking about values, Man utds ownership and way of running has been nothing but a leach for the community of Manchester in very stark contrast to the opportunities created by City
I want to have this question answered
Why isn't Foden playing?
Every year a video of this title is popping up
So Arsenal who are the set piece masters can score from Man City's corners as well
I still remember the pod where Joe started doxing Seb on the pod and talkiing about Seb's brown briefcase to the, first, amusement then sheer horror of Seb and Alex, i miss the trio! JJ IS ALSO THE MAN GOD GET JOE BACCK
Alex was 1 in a billion person
Joe is back on the pod, where have you been?
Goo goo, and also gaa gaa
Rico lewis plays because kyle walker is washed not injured
City tactics are the most analyzed tactics and Pep is the most analyzed manager in the world
And yet he wins the most😂
So Pep is only one step ahead? My man could not stand Niko whom two steps ahead
Honestly who in their right mind would put a baby at the helm of a podcast??
What app/program are they using for the analysis anyone?
Please tell me if you get to know
Here we go again, JJ trying to belittle the accomplishments of Liverpool in 19/20 by saying it was a covid season, while conveniently leaving out the fact they were already leading by 20 odd points before covid had even started. If anything, 20/21 season was the actual covid season because of how there were more games being played without fans.
Looks a lot like the sort of spaces Maddison takes up for Spurs
Pep is an unstoppable force and I love him!
Easier to be unstoppable when you don't play by the rules
@@sjohno98 All big clubs don't play by the rules. There's reason why Mpabe went to RM and not Southampton. It's a matter of who runs their shop better buddy. And it doesn't get any better than Pep. You have to atleast give his way of playing some credit coz it is effective as hell.
That coach who took out that player outshone anything that City has ever done.
The hearings for the 115 charges starting this week?
Is that how you plan to stop them?
this coming from a chelsea losers said a lot
They will be cleared . Btw cry more
womp womp.
kinda strange that city is not worrying about this case i bet alot city hater's gonna cry after those cases are finish
if u ask me a few months ago , as a Arsenal fans, maybe i would believe Arsenal. But the following matches are becoming more and more difficult for Arsenal and arsenal fans.
>correct: as an Arsenal fan:)
kdb coudnt foul kudus coz he was on a yellow bro
If the 115 allegation isn't punished even 1 of the charge, then the board of EPL is a joke. Might as well dont have any rule of PSR or anything
You know charges are accusations...so don't be optimistic
Fake charges
@@ryankwatemba4071 I know it, & I'm pessimistic that they're going to be punish anyway. But who are you kidding man? We know what kind of club City is before the oil money kicks in.
At the end of the day deduct 10 points from Everton 😂
@@romancaster3454 yes
Then let him take over a team in National League. Is he a good coach,, yes. Is he helped by the money that he has available to buy the best players, yes. The same could be said for Alex Ferguson with Man Utd. Its easy to coach really good players isn't it? Is he better than Steve Cooper, or Marcelo Bielsa or Roy Keane - who took good teams from the Championship to the Premier League? Would be a good debate.
Very hard decision.
I will take a big risk here.
I would say that I have a feeling Man City will win the title.
I dont know. Something tells me..
I’m here after Liverpool lost too forest, looking forward to seeing if arsenal can beat Tottenham
Why don't you guys sell your analytical ideas to opposition managers? :)😮
Cant wait for the day my club gets scot-free and maybe throw some fine money cuz why not. Its gonna be the best day yet 🙏
By introducing knockout rounds to decide the winner
Pep should invade the field like the Italian coach
I’ve been trying to find out what the average xG for a goal in the prem. Please help.
The thing is you can't beat city in Etihad.. and now they never loose away matches too.. taking all three points from them is mission impossible 😅
I like this new host more
so we are almost back to going full circle to WM
Imo as long Pep stays you'll need luck to stop them (lost agains Real Madrid on penalties) off the pitch they could be stopped by getting convicted for their 115 charges
Didnt chelsea win with Conte & Mourinho? Didn't Leicester win also ? How did pep only lose three titles?
Pep only lost two and not Mourinho
Hopefully the rules.
Pep Guardiola leaving.
He will soon invent a 4-4-2 with regular wingers.
How are your gates goblin king?
Injuries and the legal case that they are facing now.
Nottingham Forest!
it is only hit when JJ and JK are there
Any news Phil?
The courts
Only the 115 can stop man city.
Liverpool didn’t win the league “during Covid”, they walked the league by December. Have some respect JJ. 👍🏼
They didn't
@@GermanChickenwing they did
@gauntrobcat1257 They didn't.. Dont care if they were 15, 20 points in december, fact reminds they won it at lockdown when there was covid
