so... Jack White actually uses the 1485 which is highly different from the 1484. its more wattage and has a 6x10 cabinet. It also has way more gain on tap and headroom which is what gave Jack a lot of his signature sound :)
I'm with you - but till the reissue try the Jackson Audio Silvertone Twin Twelve 1484 Pedal - it is soo beautifully made and i love it - i dont have the direct comparison but it's my new favourite to spice up my fender Reverb with Jack and Dan sounds!
The 1485 is the Jack White amp . The preamp and transformers are the same as the 1484. The 1485 has more output and was paired with a 6x10 Jensen loaded cabinet. The reverb and tremolo are great. Especially the reverb nothing on the market like it.
I just got one of these, and with a couple of minor tweaks it has quickly become my favorite amp. I agree that it could be built more sturdily. The aluminum chassis and particle board cabinet aren’t likely to be very robust on tour - I would get a custom live-in case before taking it anywhere out of town. But man, it sounds incredible. Edit- btw, I checked the schematics for the 6G6 and the 1483, and the circuits are VERY different.
Mojo Tone made one a few years back in a Marshall style head as a kit, I believe for Jason White of Green Day, but you could buy the kits for around $800.
Duribility was not an issue with mine. Had the original cab with mine and played it out for 10 years as my main amp. Only the second owner and it had the original tubes. But I would definitely recommend re-cabbing.
That sounded awesome. Brownface era was my favourite Fender era as well. I really want to get a Line 6 Helix now just so I can test out their version of the Silvertone amp without spending a fortune on an old and potentially unreliable amp.
I checked the schematics briefly. The preamp section looks really different from a bassman(6g6), especially in the eq-section. For a reissue someone should implement a switch for chathode-bias(1483 - 23W) to fixed-bias(1484 - 60W as advertised in the sears catalog) - that should solve the problem with the headroom. I guess someone pointed it out before me, but Jack White used the 1485. This amp has 4x6L6GC's and is more in Twin-territory(output-wise).
I found it! ACME instruments, Jesse Quitslund in Seattle Washington. Saying temporarily closed right now, but maybe the guy is currently touring at the moment. Good luck
@@eirikstordrangeguitar Sry i was a lil bit to fast with my jugdment. The EQ in the 1484 is an Baxandall. The one in the 1483 is some really quirky stuff. Besides that the 1484 is silicon rectified and the 1483 should have a 5y3gt as a rectifier-tube which changes the response of the amp. I would guess the 1484 and 1485 sound more similiar to each other and the 1483 is the odd one. But hard to guess i never played a silvertone amp.
Awesome video. I've wanted one of those silvertone AIAB pedals, but have the Supro drive pedal and everyone says that's close. You might consider checking out the Supro and Harmony amps too-both vintage and reissue. Went down the rabbit hole on reverb and a lot of cool ST amps. The 1482 looked cool (low watt 1×12?) I've been getting into the goldfoil/Hershey bar pickup sound as well, specifically Silvertone 1420 guitars. The whole vintage era of Silvertone, Danalectro, Supro, Harmony, Valco, National, etc. Is a world unto itself.
About 10 years ago I was doing a gig using a Harmony Rocket into a Silvertone vintage amp, and the mic was some old elvis looking thing running into a 1964 bogner for all the vintage drip...and...welp...i shocked my face to high heaven, lips first. haha be careful that you dont electrocute yourselves using old gear!
When I went to go look at an 1485 a couple weeks ago, that sucker shocked me too. Replaced all electrolytic caps and installed a three prong cord. No more shock! Great sounding amp and cab for $380! 🤘🏼
I have thought about getting this amplifier….🤔 I have a 1432. I just went through the electronics and it sounds fantastic. …🙏🏻🎶👍🏻 I really don’t have the room for a bigger one. I have so many amp now. ….🙄👀 You can see the 1432 on my UA-cam channel ….! ( The Jeff Galey Channel )
More pop/clean I'll stick with the twin 12, but it can push a Marshall 1960A or B if you want to go hard. I ran it in stereo paired with an H&K GM40 for live stuff for awhile and it hilariously overpowered the Kettner
I ask Silvertone to reissue the 1448 on every of their IG posts, they like the comments so maybe... Plus they did a pedal to kind of recreate this amp. Let's hope

@@eirikstordrangeguitar sorry went too fast to answer. Yes I meant the Jackson audio pedal, they use the silvertone logo so I guess it's licensed. I have a little feeling they will bring back the 1484 amp
Helix calls it a Mail Order Twin so that's the best description i've heard on it
That’s what that is! Thank you!

We didn't answer the most important question: DOES IT QOTSA!?!?!

Always sounds amazing
I really enjoy your detailed observations on equipment and guitar tones. I like the "dirty" noisey guitar sounds.
Thank you very much!

@@artshaw7079 looks promising. He can surely implement a Bias-Switch. Eirik here you go :)
Thanks! So cathode bias (1483) vs fixed bias (1484) is the biggest difference between the two models?
good find! A 1484 though. I've seen some others do that one as well.

Yes! I have the 1483 and an Airline 62-9023A, and they are tone monsters. I love the old department store amps!
Sounds very good :)
I know you said you did not take speakers in account, but… Do a EVM12/Celestion/Fane or something, would be interesting to hear.
I have a 1483. An awesome little hidden gem if ya ask me. If you find one, buy it. You won’t regret it. Great video, thank you.
Yes, indeed, awesome little amp!
I’m in. Challenge accepted. Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll let you know when it’s ready

weird that your only demo on the bass was all the way up at the 10-12th fret area .... would have been good to hear some lower notes.
Didnt mastodon used this on cleans and on the aquarium concert?
Just checked some photos, and looks like Brent used a 1484 or 1485. The bigger ones

NEVER have found a better clean tone

That’s a great dirt sound
