      @Half-Random Jack then you’re using too much water. keep a tissue by ur side to wipe ur brush often and try experimenting using different amounts of water. Going over the same area multiple times also rips paper so don’t overdo it, relax and paint.

    I used to think I was a brick in water from a childhood drowning incident. I took swimming lessons several times since, not able to swim. In my mind I always wanted to conquer swimming. Last year I moved to a community with a heated pool that sat empty. I started to go and learned from youtube coaches. It took me a long time to get over fear, get things right, and get swimming muscle. Right now I cam breaststroke non stop and comfortable front crawl. Perhaps I’d conquer watercolor the same way, by doing it often and don’t give up.

    I randomly came to this channel again. She isn't as popular she used to be. I remembered about her and saw she uploads once a while. I used to watch her 5 years ago when I was fond of painting. I have found new things to explore in my life but a part of painting was extremely relaxing and fun in my life. Seeing her the doing the two paintings that I exactly did watching her was extremely nostalgic. Things have taken turns and this video made me refresh the good fine time when I was a kid.

      Thank you for checking up on me! I also had other things to explore in my life during my break from UA-cam and I think it's so important to do that from time to time. I never really considered myself "popular" and these days my goal is definitely not being popular but to connect with my subscribers and students on a deeper level. I'm glad you enjoyed this video and it was also fun for me to recreate this old painting. It's like visiting the past and seeing how much you have learned and grown not only artistically but also as a person! Maybe one day you will pick up painting again so you can do that in your free time! :)

    It's funny because I bought myself an art table. After I unpacked it, I almost had a panic attack. I've put together furniture before but not like this, and I started to think I was in over my head. Then I spent the next 5 days talking myself down. A. It's for me so I can take as long as I need to get comfortable approaching it. B. I suddenly asked myself, who said you can't do this? You haven't even tried. You might not put it together perfectly, but any mistakes will just remind you how you conquered your fear and did something new.
    Idk, it's just nice to listen to you talk about the process. It bolstered me even further. Thank you for your video! 🥰

    If there’s someone here who’s always thought they’d never learn how to paint, trust me you can actually learn. I was someone who dreamt about painting for ten years before I had the courage to give it a go. I always thought it was too late. But then one day I just got started by doing simple tutorials in Mako’s book, and it just allowed me to see and experience the magic of watercolor. That really changed me and gave me faith in myself. Eventually nailing those simple paintings allowed me to build up to painting portraits, plein air and even paintings from my imagination. I’m almost two years in painting and I’ve created things that I never thought would be possible for me. So I’m saying give yourself the opportunity to try watercolor. If you keep going you will learn, and you will really feel the magic that this medium has. Trust me it is worth it.

    I've been implementing a lot of the points you say in this video when someone comes to me and says "I wish I can do this" and "You have so much talent". I was personally burned by the world "talent" because the word was used against me when I was trying to go pass my Self Taught stage (before UA-cam actually gave decent tutorials) "You don't have the talent", so I try to inform anyone who tell themselves they don't have "talent" or even "I wish I can do this", that art is a skill, not a Talent. It's a *learnable* skill at that. I also tell people to start with Student Grade stuff because while it's not Professional grade, it's at least a good enough quality to learn from and would help you learn what you like and don't like without breaking your bank. But also I prefer when people are doing reviews, they don't use "oh this is the best" but more like "This is similar to this brand due to A, B, and C, but the price is cheaper/it's a little smoother/it holds this thing longer" or whatever reason because then I can decide if the price is worth it to try it out in the long run.
    I think part of the problem is that a lot of artists in both schools and outside are pressured to "be the next Picasso" or "the Next Master art influencer" that people don't think of the journey of the art process. People don't realize that Rubins couldn't paint lions for the life of him, so he actually had a student of his to paint the lions when they came up... and it had to be a client to force him to do litereally 95% of a painting of Daniel and the Den of Lions. Salvidor Dali couldn't draw Horses, but he ran with his weird horses as part of his style. If we could break down the "you have to be perfect to be successful", I think more would be willing to try art more often without the stigma.

    • @Makoccino
      @Makoccino  Рік тому +1

      Thank you so much for sharing this! This is so interesting! Yes, painting is definitely a learned skill! It it somehow always portrayed as something you are born with and not how much time and effort every single artist put into their craft. I understand where this comes from, but still makes me said that some people might never discover what beautiful art they could have created if they gave it a chance or would stick with it a little bit longer!

    • @Merdragoon
      @Merdragoon Рік тому

      @@Makoccino Exactly. It's why I try to do some Art history education on the subject if they are confused on what I mean about it being Learned and not born with. Picasso isn't the best example of artists learning their craft because Picasso was known to be "a genius" as he didn't struggle much at all, Cubism (All stages) and the "Blue and Rose Period" was a choice because he was bored of realism. It's why I brought up the Ruban's story because that is actually more of something someone can relate to. There's also a slew of different artists that were around during the time that had verious levels of strengths and weaknesses which were around at the time and displayed during the Salon period, but we don't talk about those peices because they never become beyond the "big artists".
      That is what I wish to do when I finally open up my UA-cam Channel, is educate on the Art history and the social pressures that is put on artists today due to soceity not understanding how art came to be so vast in styles. Also subjects that isn't talked about much which I think would help open up more art discussions. Will it become big? probably not, but at least there would be videos out there which would actually deep dive into the social history of art and how each artists had bad critics and still kept going as they didn't care what they said. (Impressionism at one point wasn't liked because it looked like "sketches" but now it's the most beloved art style for example, and Photogarphy was seen as the "evil techology" when it first came out due to taking jobs from potrait painters, only for art to change because of it.)

Apenas salgo de casa. Comencé con mucha ilusión. Vi miles de videos. Cuando sentí que me estancaba, me apunté a clases on line, de las que poco o nada pude lograr, más que sentirme aún más frustrada. To avoid this I start to apply more paint without adding too much water, so it feels like I'm painting acrylics 😑.

I also see that some pan already filled is about 2 ml of paint in a pack of 12 and it being sold for 120 $ also which would result in a lost since 30 holbein tube for 120 will be able to do 2-3 refill of 30. @Makoccino, I am just getting back into water color after a long hiatus. My problem is when I do wet on wet and creating washes my paper is literally disintegrating and I get little paper rolls. I’m using 140lb cold press 300gsm paper, brands are Art Advantage, Windsor & Newton and Strathmore. My paints are Aquarelle, everything is new. What the heck is going on? Any suggestions.

    • @Makoccino
      @Makoccino  Рік тому +1

      I would definitely invest in 100% cotton paper as anything else that is cellulose can be more brittle. So when you paint wet on wet, the paper starts to "fall apart". It doesn't matter if it's new if the quality isn't great! 100% is more pricey but so worth it, you won't be able to use anything else after experiencing it! You can look into Saunders Waterford, Arches, or Canson Heritage. Make sure it's cold-pressed!

    All children love to draw and paint. I've never met a child who didn't. We tell children that they can draw and paint then somewhere between being a child and an adult, most people lose it because they think they're not good enough. Children don't care if it turns out perfect and neither should we. I think deep down, we all love doing art but we care too much about the end result and about what other people will think and say. Art is freedom.

  • @jcepri
    @jcepri 4 місяці тому

    That can-do belief is for the most part imprinted on us by our parents or caregivers by 5 years-old. That's not my opinion, it's widely known in the field of child development.. My guess is you had at least one parent or caregiver who strongly encouraged you to explore and learn from a very young age. Unfortunately, not all kids get that. When you don't get any positive reinforcements, or worse, you get criticized, it's very hard to shake that later in life. That inner critical voice we hear is very old, so old that we think it's us talking. The key is to first notice the voice and know that it's not "you" talking." If you can notice what it's saying without getting wrapped up in the emotions, you're on the right track. Then you can take it to the next level by talking back to it. You can say something like, "Thanks for your input, but I'm going to sit you in the next room and close the door while I work on this painting." Another strategy is to imagine observing the critic through one of those one-way mirrors that they use for lineups or investigation interviews. Imagine watching it sitting there all alone talking to itself. You'll realize how foolish it sounds. If you close your eyes and really conjure up these images while in a relaxed state, that voice will get quieter and quieter. It worked for me! I still hear that voice when I create, but now it's more like hearing background noise that I can easily ignore.
