- On the second episode of ZULA First Dates: Deal-breaker Edition, Zaki and Madeleine visit an art studio where they take on a pottery making experience together. Will they be able to impress each other with their skills?
What ZULA First Dates: Deal-Breaker Edition is about:
ZULA First Dates is a dating show where we set strangers up on a blind date. In this new season, we added a twist, where each episode will feature a common relationship deal-breaker. The guests do not have a script, and are encouraged to be candid.

Like if you ship Zaki & Madeleine!!! ♡
She's studying law, and she gets called to the barre
did yall get the vibe that she wasnt really comfortable or interested ? its quite sad bc i could tell the guy was really trying his best to make the date work
She'll definitely know which deal breaker was being challenged 🤭
Honestly, it’s not hard to tell that there’s no spark between them. And seriously, who will dare to say no in front of the camera?
Personally i think going on a second date is fine, without any real implications, easy to say yes to. but if they discuss about getting a BTO together then I would say its a real and substantial 'singaporean' way of challenging the deal-breaker.
Thanks for the video! I myself am in a mixed relationship - my Fiancé is Malay while I am Chinese. Personally, I think race is rarely an issue but religion is. Will be interesting to watch a segment on couples with differing religions across the religion spectrum in Singapore :) thanks for your video once again! Wish them all the best :D
Sherry Goh How were his parents’ reactions to the relationship?
Did you guys have a civil marriage or did you convert? Sorry for being nosy but I too am in an interracial relationship and religion is definitely a problem for us :(
I'm curious to know too. Also in an interracial relationship, and we are trying to reach out to more couples like us. I'm Malay and my girlfriend's Chinese.
@@blackboy1604 if only there was a way to meet more couples facing similar issues
@@blackboy1604 Hi! I will be converting prior to our marriage. I will definitely need to take some time to ease in, no lie. I do know of people who went for civil marriages but I believe his/her Muslim parents and family have to agreeable. Usually it's pretty hard. It's also a personal affair - some people don't really care and are better at taking criticisms that may come along (honestly speaking)... it depends on every couple and individual. I had a difficult time coming to terms with all these especially when I'm a freethinker (my entire family is). I question alot - I still do. Takes time to ease in and 'have faith'. I'm lucky that my Fiancé is the supportive type - we've been together for 8 years so we do know how each other function. At the end of the day, the relationship has to be strong in order to tackle any additional problems. Take life easy and make the best out of it :)
I mean race wasn't her dealbreaker, more like her parents'
She is just using her parents as an excuse. In this day and age, if you really want to marry someone, there's nothing your parents can do about it.
This is ridiculous, they obviously know what the “dealbreaker” is!
Zula's done it again! Honestly, this feels so relevant even beyond relationships like friendships. It's just interesting to see how people from different cultures interact and hang out. Such a good video!!
wah, she said his Chinese song preferences were a bit outdated?? I'm pretty sure, the Hindi song she sang was from before I was born. HAHAA
They have such great chemistry!!! ♡_♡ Both of them have such great personality too!!!
This is like Soul Pancake’s Tell My Story but to the next level. Pretty interesting, I like!

next video's definitely Javier :D is it going to be funny too cos his IG vids are super hilarious
1:45 was relatable 🤧
This video reminds me of me and my bf having our first few dates last year. ^_^ I'm a Chinese girl and he's Malay. I knew from the very beginning that my parents would be very against me having a relationship with someone of his race (We are Malaysians), but to be honest, he is a person to me, regardless of his race and religious background, and our connection ran deep, our chemistry was great and we mirrored each other in many ways.
Btw, Zaki and Madeline jived so well together! So much laughter in between. Heh so cute lah. :3 I'm glad they agreed that they'd go on second dates together. :)
@Pestilence Wayward no I'm no longer with him since last year Feb.
honestly its not easy to be in a interacial rs
The answer is Yes, it does. Not now, then later. Race always does matter whether you like it or not.
The answer to that question is neither black nor white. It all depends on the person you have decided to date. Are you on the same cultural wave link! Is your mate trapped in tribal duties making it impossible for an outsider to get in? Is there any pressure to impose the culture of one partner as the rule of your relationship?
This is so cool eh so cool eh, i’m looking forward to the next ep!!!
If theres one thing i learnt from this series is that women are generally more shallow than guys in terms of preference. But hey! Femenism ftw!
They are so cute together
its the way they eat the pizza for me
MADDY!!!!! she looks so gorg 😍
press T-fries, pasta & pizza of coz 9/10 lol
yes
lolol I hear the voice can tell that it is Javier already
18:38 sounds like the famous emcee in NTU Javier ! wowwwwwww
Sounds like Joyce in next episode. Is it??? WEEE
nope its not her voice lol
LOL isn't that Javier @javwong?
Of course race is an issue. You date Malay/Indian Muslim, they can be the coolest, most chill person you ever been with, in the end they will tell you to convert if you wanna marry them. Even if they aren't religious themselves, they will still want you to do it to appease their family. No thanks.
You dont have to appease them. There is no compulsion in religion. There are choices.
Can tell that the fact that she's Chinese and a soon-to-be lawyer is triggering some kind of complex in him.
Just my opinion but he seems to have quite an inferiority complex when it comes to race and level of education. Not that I'm blaming him though.
@@kiwiparlour3576 Hey abit late, but I'm the guy in this video. That's interesting and I should address this. Since your other comment mentions minorities, I'll use my experience to shed some light on why I'm giving some inferiority complex energy. I can't speak for all minorities coz we are very very diverse - Malays, Indians, Filipinos, Eurasians, etc (diff discriminations and privileges) Having a blanketed statement won't do much to foster understanding. I see where you're coming from. Growing up, I hated the stereotypes against my race. I would go out of my way to break the stereotype while being "Malay" - funny, played football, guitar. underachieving. So, I joined table tennis (chinese majority), took triple science in sec school (apparently it's prestigious), got a scholarship to an overseas uni. All this to challenge everyone's stereotypes about Malays and have a say at the table. Eventually, I feel that that's coming across as having an inferiority complex (being a minority and having a stereotype didn't help with feeling inferior) At some point, there was no one else to prove, and I asked myself, "What do I actually want to do just for myself?" That's that! I'm not invalidating your opinion but using it as an opportunity to build on this important conversation. I don't want the conversation to just stop at your comment or mine. Hope that shed some light, and I hope you found some of the jokes funny? (lol coz my bread and butter now is comedy, i'll be worried)
@@MrHuhushus sounds that you would marry any girl you vibe with... dont worry about these stereotypes or complexes. These do not tell the whole picture... a lot of the high achieving Malay men like our ministers marry Chinese women.
NGL, they don’t look good together
Ahmad (22978) narrated from Abu Nadrah: Someone who heard the khutbah of the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) on the second of the days of at-Tashreeq told me that he said:
“O people, verily your Lord is One and your father is one. *Verily there is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab or of a non-Arab over an Arab, or of a red man over a black man, or of a black man over a red man, except in terms of taqwa* . Have I conveyed the message?” They said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) has conveyed the message.
