    I was on R&R in Bangkok for a week in January 1970 n again in June of 1970. I had a very very great time n the Thai people were very respectful. I wish I could go back but at almost 72 it probably will never happen but the memories still remain as if it was yesterday

    My dad was in the USAF based out of Phan Rang in 69-70 and had a choice of Thailand, Sydney or Hawaii for R&R. He chose Sydney and met my mom there who was working at the Texas Tavern. They got married and had me in 1975.
    I'm on here trying to see what he missed. Want to see what was going on there in Thailand during late 69 and early 1970. Thanks for posting this vid.

    Got to show this to a retired MP buddy. He was here in the '60s. I didn't get to Bangkok until 1973. Hardly looked any different and sure was better than RVN! :)

    My grandpa was there! He told me “When I go on the plane (sorry he’s part deaf so it’s hard to interpret this) the sun follow me the whole time, when I get to bangkok I just drive, drive around.” I can’t really remember much in detail because i’m bad at sign language and reading lips

    Looks like the nana hotel hasn't changed but everything else has. Bangkok itself doesn't look that different in this video from what it did in the late 1980s I think it was from about 2000 onwards that it really began to change and loose its charm

    • @Voltaire8559
      @Voltaire8559 5 років тому +2

      ziggerzee “loose its charm”, you mean in becoming more independent and developed? Im sure Thailand is better without “its charm” if you mean charm by having an american base with farang boys buying away thai women with your bloodlust money.

    As a Cambodian-American, I envy the Thais so much. While Cambodia and Vietnam was being raped by layers of carpet-bombing, steel rain caused by the endless struggle of communism, Thailand was just sitting back in paradise.

      Communism is a big trouble on earth, as islam...we have many problems now with these stupid peoples in France, communist leader only wants to bring chaos to take away the power, in fact, it does not care about the people.It will be worst if they took power and will drive blind people more stupid and violent.

      That's because the Thai's were smart, America invested millions in into Thailands infrastructure, highways, schools, and hospitals. They avoid the WW11 by pretending to lose a declaration of war on Japanese. The US R and R program set the basis of early tourism up , which boomed later in the '80s and '90s
