Great video, I really appreciate you taking the time to do a full video around my question. I went ahead and picked up a ckye-pod. It's fantastic having all the options for when I eventually get into the PRS events here is Australia. I do have an issue with the looseness in the bipod as you mentioned but it does give plenty of pre-load I found. Cheers mate.

Here's some coronavirus advice I gave to a friend.
If you REALLY want to learn a lot about precision shooting and equipment, go back to Season 1 and start watching ALL of the 8541 Tactical videos. One of the nice things about John's production is that he timestamps most of the subjects. That way you don't have to watch crap you're not necessarily interested in.

The Atlas seems like a Harris Bi pod with all the upgrades you would want on it and more leg positions.

I still like the Harris over the atlas for simplicity reasons, and being able to deploy quickly.. Never touched the CKYE pod though. I also really like the new magpul bipods for the same reason, and think they bridge a nice gap between the Harris and atlas and a really nice price point...

My current bipod is the David Tubbs Non-Symmetrical Bipod and enjoy its flexibility. Hearing about the Ckye and MDT collaboration, I wanted to hear your trusted insights about uses I have not yet learned. Thank you for a great review!

I like my Magpul bipod. A great upgrade from the Harris knock off I was using before. The cheap one has be relegated to my kids .22.

I own several Harris bipods, as well as a couple of the Magpul bipods. I've had my eye on an atlas for awhile. The Ckye is not easy to justify, even with all of its features.

Another Great Video! The only comment I would like to add is that Atlas does make bipods that have a swivel feature.
I'm sure the other companies are reputable, but I don't have a lot of experience with them. Atlas is absolutely rock-solid as company and really stands behind their products. the last thing is that I would remind folk there are Chinese knockoff stuff out there. Don't buy them. They are crap. Even if your just looking for something to put on your seven-year-old's .22. By legit stuff. If you're looking for something a little less expensive, there are certainly reasonably priced non-professional bipods out there.

I'm still rocking a Harris with the sling swivel mount.
The day I loose a match because the Harris messed me around I'll upgrade, so far that's yet to happen.

I really appreciate all you do. Huge help for a rookie like me.
Have you tried the Accu-Tac? I picked up the arca rail LR-10 but havent been able to get out and shoot it yet. Just wondered how it compares.
    Thanks again

I can get five Harris bipods for one Ckye and it does 99+% of what might be needed... I'll 'get put and shoot' more for the difference and hone my skills to make up for that 'advantage'. 😎
Great info and well done video, as always though McQuay!

I’m running the Harris/ARCA combo, looking to add another option if/when our Michigan club matches start. So far I’m leaning to the Warns Skyline. Seems like a blend of all.
Once again Mail Call is on point, with what I’m doing or what gear I’m thinking about. Thanks for all u do.

I’ve been running the Warne skyline for close to a year now. It has a couple things I don’t like but they all do. I would definitely recommend the skyline. I give it 2 thumbs up!

There are two problems with the Ckye Bipod: Cost and weight. An MDT CKYE-POD GEN2 SINGLE PULL SHORT/PRS cost $599. and weighs 21 oz.
The Atlas CAL on the other hand, a BT65-LW17 Gen. 2 CAL Atlas Bipod as shown by you, Retails for $299.95 and weighs 14.6 oz.
If you need the functionality of the CKYE, for say PRS comps, then the price is doable, as you probably have well over $2000. - $3000.+ already invested in scope and rifle. And most PSR rifles weigh north of 14 lbs anyway. And the a extra 1/2 lb would not be a deal breaker. And the functionality of the CKYE I could certainly put to good use if I was still shooting the PRS circuit.
If on the other hand and your outfitting a AR15 MK12 type Clone or other precision AR's weighing in the 10 lbs or less range, or maybe a lightweight hunting rifle, in the 8 lb-9 lb range fully loaded, then shaving off 6-7 oz from the front end (as compared to the CKYE), on a rifle you may have to hump over hill and dale, makes the Atlas very attractive. Weigh savings can be a good thing.
The Harris has been around forever. I used several over the years, and used it in matches a few years before PRS became a thing.
Once I got my first Atlas around 2010, I never when back to the Harris and sold them all off. All had KMW Pod-Loc's installed.

How is this chassis from MDT v something like a KDG chassis? My buddy keeps telling me a KDG is far superior for PSR/sniper type shooting

John, do not try and punch the roll pins out on your Harris. I made that mistake and what happened was the leg at the pin sheared off, the pins are super tight! Harris told me they are hydraulically pressed.
Harris repaired my BRM, excellent cs.
Oh, and I really love my CAL...

    • @8541tactical

I ended up just cutting the feet off. It was much easier that way. It let me get a more solid hit on the pins to drive them out.

Have you gotten a chance to look at the elite iron bipods? Can you do a future video comparing the elite iron to the ckye pod and atlas cal? Thank you for the great videos keep up the good work.

Interesting that you said the adjustments stays put on the ckye pod. I have no end of problems keeping the swivel tight. If I tighten it down and the rifle rocks at all the screw loosens as you rock back to level. If it happens twice the adjustment screw is so loose the tension will no longer hold the weight of the rifle and it will flop over on its own. Was something assembled wrong at MDT? Ideas? It's a nice bipod otherwise.
