I'll be 50 in January. I grew up playing little league from 1975-1983 in West Cobb County, Georgia. As far as I'm concerned, Pete Rose was the greatest player who ever played. I was able to see him play at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium a few times when he was with the Reds and then Philadelphia. If you were a kid playing little league in the seventies, how could you not want to emulate Mr. Rose! I could care less about his mistakes. Perhaps it's easier to forgive those you admired as a child.
I could be more forgiving of Pete Rose, but he had his chance, but he refused it. You ought to listen to Jonny Bench when he talks about why Rose shouldn't be allowed in the game. He was offered a suspension, the FBI was going to have the IRS drop his tax evasion case and the FBI said they'd get the NJ mobsters to forgive Rose's $500,000 debt and all he had to do was come clean and publicly apologize and go into rehab during his suspension. Well he thought he'd beat it and tried to bully Bart Giamatti, the Yale professor Commissioner of baseball, but instead he was banned for life and spent 5 months in federal prison for tax evasion. He never came 100% clean even in his book according to John Dowd who was the primary investigator against Rose. Rose did bet against his team by not betting when his worst pitchers were up to pitch and he kept them in the game too long. meaningless statement. a sport is nothing but a set of arbitrary rules. it's a piece of machinery. baseball just happened to be very felicitously invented so it absorbed some culture. it's the culture and makeup of the people that make the sport and give it life. it's largely through taking sports too seriously that there isn't anything worth calling a culture to absorb anymore.
What if the Sign said "No Sneezing during games" and a player Sneezed?....We going to act like that player is some MONSTER?...This is what Baseball has Trained and brainwashed everyone to think about Pete Rose...He should not have Bet on Baseball but stop acting like that Rule is the most horrible rule to break in Sports...Grow up already...He has been Punished his whole life since it happened...Some of these Pathetic Sports analysts and ex players hopping on top of their Soap Box screaming "A Rule is a Rule!!"...Cant stand these Phony ignorant people like them
16:46 Went to a Reds game this week, sat right behind the Brewers dugout and it looked to me that they were way to casual in their approach; lack of a businesslike approach to the game ..to me. The Reds have a rookie second baseman, India; He's out there playing with not one, but two, 27" necklaces hanging around his neck. I'm thinking, he thinks he's at a nite club, not playing for the Reds. Way too casual for me. Half the Brewers were making sure they stepped over the third base line when they took the field or heading for the dugout. Its like some kind of neurosis when half the team is concerned about stepping on the third base line. Do you think it ever crossed Pete's mind to wear a nite club necklace or that he might step on the third base line when he was taking the field ?
Pete belongs in the Hall of Fame. Full stop. I don't get it. He is Mr. Baseball and its best promoter. Give this man his props. He paid his price for his mistake. Let him in!!!!

He could help alot of poor folks that wouldn't give a rats ass if he gambled or what he did .Who cares !
@@downtownbobbybrown6237 The betting public cares. The poker industry itself and all its insiders took down online poker for the US by cheating and stealing the money. Baseball was almost dead because of the White Sox scandal in 1919. Pete Rose wasn't paying his bookies, and it was only a matter of time before they would have made him fix games. We haven't seen one case where someone else tried it since Pete Rose, and hopefully the game stays that way forever. If Cooperstown hasn't found innovative ways to make itself money, then it's time for the Hall of Fame to move somewhere else where our free market will allow some other innovators a chance to make the Hall profitable in some other town. If Pete Rose is the only savior for the town of Cooperstown, all I can say is they've made a horrible bet on its future.
The consistent and indisputable fact regardless of source or evidence was that Pete never bet against the Reds. Say what you will, but his actions did not compromise the integrity of the game actually being played on the field. Unlike the PED’s, super sticky substances, and illegally signaling batters which directly gave a competitive advantage to one player/team over another. Pete should’ve been suspended for three seasons then fully reinstated to manage. This did not happen for many reasons but it was clear the ‘powers that be’ had other plans for the Reds franchise. The ownership group that bought the reds in 1980 (and took them from 89 wins to four consecutive seasons averaging 69 wins) plotted to move the franchise til Marge Schott swooped in and bought controlling interest in 1985. She really pissed everyone off by turning the team around and lowering ticket/concession prices to a league low in her first year. They despised the fact she sat in the stands amongst the fans and had the nerve to bring her dog to the stadium. And when she won a World Series in 1990 (the year after Pete got banned) that was the last straw. They changed the HOF rules then cooked up racism and nazi sympathies to suspend ie eventually forcing her out of league. She sold it for $67m in 1999. It’s no mystery that the MLB ended a time honored tradition of Cincinnati being the first game of the year. It cannot be overstated how devastating it was to the franchise/city when losing Pete as our manager. He is one of the greatest baseball minds to ever live and would have served his hometown faithfully til the day he retired. Marge wouldn’t have had it any other way.. she lived for the people of the city. And she still serves them to this day through the endowment of her foundation ($500m+).
There’s no legal paper on clubhouse walls as far as I know that says do not take drugs, abuse alcohol, or batter your wife. I believe there is one on betting on baseball games.
Pete is not just my favorite baseball player of all time, he's my favorite player of any sport of all time. It's a travesty that Pete Rose is not in Baseball's Hall of Fame. Btw, who is the person doing the script for this video, LOL.
@@stevemineer2857 Get over myself in what way? Pete Rose denied, denied, and denied, and blamed Dowd and Giamatti for a witch hunt which ultimately proved to be 100% correct. Pete has only himself to blame for not being in the Hall of Fame, and regardless of what anyone says on here, including me, he's not getting in no matter what.
Is Pete Rose telling the truth about not having an opportunity to be reinstated? According to Johnny Bench, after Rose's betting was discovered and he was called on the carpet, he was offered the chance to admit to it with some other requirements like counseling young players in the minors not to bet, but he didn't accept that offer and instead said he thought he could beat the rap. He didn't. Either Bench was telling the truth or Rose was. IMHO, I frankly believe Bench. The league rule was clear, and violating it becomes a slippery slope, whether or not Rose says his betting didn't hurt anyone else.
Lot of people act like Pete Rose is the only player in History to crash into a catcher...What a Joke that is...Disgusts me that catchers BLOCK the entire plate but you are not allowed to crash into them...What the heck are you supposed to do as a runner?...Jump OVER the catcher?...Stop it
Piss on the Hall of Fame. If you watch the game you don't need a bunch of sportswriters to tell you who was great. I grew up watching my favorite players, Dave Parker, Dale Murphy, Mario Soto , Eric Davis, and Rose , none of which will probably never be invited to the Cooperstown country club and I wouldn't care if they were . It doesn't change anything
He’s paid his dues let him in the hall of fame . There are people that did drugs back in the day & they let them play again so tell me he don’t belong in the hall of fame time to let him in .
Someone needs to explain to Pete the importance of "precedent" in the Law, because if he understood that, he would understand why he must be excluded from the Hall of Fame . . . permanently. (This was a wonderful interview.)

No one is bigger than the sport itself.
meaningless statement. a sport is nothing but a set of arbitrary rules. it's a piece of machinery. baseball just happened to be very felicitously invented so it absorbed some culture. it's the culture and makeup of the people that make the sport and give it life. it's largely through taking sports too seriously that there isn't anything worth calling a culture to absorb anymore.

Switch hitter big advantage over ty cobb former hit king
Pete’s the BEST, I learned baseball by the way he played, maybe not as well but we tried the same
Great ball player. Betting / gambling destroyed his legacy.
Greatest ball player of my generation.
Johnny Lee Bench was more better
Umm.... well.... ah heck with it I’ll let u slide😎
@@horaceball5418 More better ?

I'm a Pete Fan but, why don't people seem to understand the definition of 'LIFETIME BAN'??
Pete belongs in the Hall of Fame. Full stop. I don't get it. He is Mr. Baseball and its best promoter. Give this man his props. He paid his price for his mistake. Let him in!!!!
I could listen to Pete all day .He deserves a 2nd chance and by the way Pete ,Nascar or local stockcar racing is every bit a sport like the 4 ball and stick sports .
He was given 10000 second chances from 1989 until the mid 2000s to admit to all of us about what he did. Instead he blamed Giamatti, Dowd, baseball, the Reds, the media, his shady friends, and now he blames many of the fans too. He used up all his 2nd chances and now has to live with that for the rest of his and our lives.
@@roland7584 So what, just let him back .Can u imagine what a financial shot in the arm it would be for upstate NY when they had his induction ,not to mention how it would pack any ballpark that he visited. Money talks and shit walks .
@@downtownbobbybrown6237 Just let him back? Pete did this to himself. He doesn't deserve to be brought back. He still denies the evidence and will never admit to everything he did. It's amazing so many people believe him when he's never been honest. Money surely talks and Pete will never be needed to make baseball money. They're doing just fine without him 30+ years later.
@@roland7584 Being a resident of the Cooperstown / Cobleskill area we could use the money he could raise for our area ,Alot of these towns are ghost towns now and if he would be inducted it would be a tremendous ,did I say tremendous shot in the arm for our area .These rural buisnesses are suckin wind .
Pete Rose is the travesty. He is the one who disrespected the game. Don't ever forget that.
@@roland7584Oh, get over yourself and quit polluting the message board.
What an interesting man
Is Pete Rose telling the truth about not having an opportunity to be reinstated? According to Johnny Bench, after Rose's betting was discovered and he was called on the carpet, he was offered the chance to admit to it with some other requirements like counseling young players in the minors not to bet, but he didn't accept that offer and instead said he thought he could beat the rap. He didn't. Either Bench was telling the truth or Rose was. IMHO, I frankly believe Bench. The league rule was clear, and violating it becomes a slippery slope, whether or not Rose says his betting didn't hurt anyone else.
Someone please tell Pete to drop the dye job, he would look great in gray
There is absolutely no reason to have DEAD HAIR. Just dont put on too dark of a color. Look as Young as you feel!

I feel so sorry for Mr. Pete Rose. He has paid his penalty. Let him out of jail already.

Pete Rose: "I have admitted I made a mistake"......after 25 years of lying about it.
RIP Pete Rose! You will never be forgotten!

Petey only cried three times. Pete cried for president kennedy his dad and his breaking the hit record.
What did they use to do the subtitles, a potato?
Pete has the Just For Men going.

For the love of God put the man in the hall of fame, please.
I'm a Pirates ' fan and respect the Reds because the history and rivalry. Pete competing vibe was no question. Put Pete at HOF.
Wow he'd admitted...He's great tho he's got a Dr Phil like horse sence intelligence
I don't think it's right to give this man a pre judged lifetime sentance. No possibility of redemption n forgiveness? Really? At all
That is like making a childhood mistake all children are foolish and being held too it your entire adult life even before being one. It's not Pete but u hurting the game. Destroying his greatness by your pettiness. You made him a clown when he gave all he had. All u did is watch n judge him. Yet you can't carry this even singleshitters jock strap. Stop looking at him look at yourselves. Pete is running out of years. You need to shut up let him be inducted even if his speech is narcissistic. That's who he is. At the same x the best hits king who EVER LIVED. Did u get that? The best hits king in the entire nearly 150 years of baseball. Get off your high horse. If you've stolen once in your life. Ever cheated on your husband. Cheated on your taxes. Bullied someone. Acted like a jerk drunk. You've taken this heroes very dignity you losers. He got hits in his sleep you can't get in 2 seasons vs 2/3 of one of his. To forgive Pete isn't to forgive yourself. You always excuse yourself. So what he gambled. He didn't throw the 1919 series. Even if he did they used them like slaves. No, Pete rose having this happen to him inducted you not him. I'd be happy to have his rookie card like I won the lottery by gambling when I haven't in 20 years. Not even once. If he gambled every game betting on myself is confidence. Money involved or not. How many of us say I'll bet u I can kick your butt at horse? Or baseball? This is b.s. . If you put him in the hall yesterday you already hurt him too much to ever recover. He whether u put him in the hall or not will be like Hank or Jackie Robinson carry it too his grave no one ever able to heal the pain. I know because I have suffered this way preaching to millions only being targeted. Pete I'm sorry bro for our ignorance and self righteousness. We judge u excuse out ownsins as though they never happened. We can't forgive you though because the Antichrist is more acceptable than u r. But doubt Satan could even catch Stan the Man moreless you.

He lied for 14 years.....adamant he never bet on baseball. Overwhelming evidence proved he did. He was delusional ....spitting in the face of MLB that brought him wealth and fame. He's 79 years old. He won't get in when he is alive. They may put him in posthumously but
most likely not.
Had he gotten humble and contrite when he first got busted MLB may have changed thier ruling. He was too arrogant. Pride did him in. Sad sad story.
