Thanks for the video. Tried to do mine yesterday. Spent about 6 hours under the car. When I got the old one out I compared it to the new AutoZone one. The bend where it connects to the gear box was off by about 15 degrees. so I tried to bend it myself to match. After getting it in I could not line up the threads. Went to advance auto and got another one that matched my old bend. Don't try to bend them yourself. Now I got to spend another day. Napa had a nice solid crowfoot set. Nobody else's set had the 18. They were all 17,19.
For some reason, I believe when tool companies copy tools, they leave a size off the set..many tools do that and then they don't sell the missing socket to match.
First time I did it! I fished line thru, but I guess it cross threaded!! So had to redo! Second time I took it easy did the extra steps, put on stands and dropped subframe with JACK!!! Just unbolted the two bolts with JACK in place lowered 3-4”!! Leaves tons of room to fish line in easily!! And get nut threaded in as this was the most difficult part of the job! Once started, it all was a breeze!! Wouldn’t do it any other way !!
You definitely need the car as high as it can go..but if you read the comments, people have done it..I tried many ways possible to wiggle it in. Others have removed certain items and I think someone even dropped the frame down. I did it without touching anything else and I did it twice because the 1st one ended with a bad thread at the rack so definitely tape up the ends so the flare and the fitting doesn't get damaged while moving it around.
When removing the high pressure line did you need to do anything with the subframe? I tried once but I couldn't get the wrench on in a way that allowed me to turn it...I just got a crow foot today so I'm hoping I get lucky
@@alyoungcuda ...just finished....the high pressure was actually the one closest to the ground....return was the other....got all this done, replaced all the lines and power steering pump, only to find the rack and pinion has a leak in the cylinder....smh.... imagine the luck
@@alyoungcuda all the lines are new and your right, a good cleaning would verify where the leak is coming from....it looks to be coming out of the rubber boot on pinion
All day to change both lines..then another half day for the one line because I didn't cover up the fittings and as I wiggled and found its way to the rack, the fitting treads were nicked and it wouldn't tread in nicely..and I don't want to force it because then you might strip the treads on the rack and that will be another problem..it should tread in by hand.So I had returned it and got another one...
Sorry to hear that, but this is the reason why I made this video for those that like to sell and replace parts 1st before actually taking some time to troubleshoot the problem.
I did not remove the sway bar. But it took some time to configure a way in without damaging the line..I put it back in the way it came out, do you remember how it came out?
@@PwNzDeLeOn i looked at the video again and it seems I removed the sway bar link off but it just wiggles under those components..the easy part is the one in the front frame, its the side ones going to the firewall, but take your time for sure.
I had the same problem with 1 line, what I did was cut off the fitting from the old line, just the fitting and tried to install that into it and if it treads in fine then atleast you know the treads are good in that part. What ended up was that I cross treaded the fitting on my new line, had to get another one, good thing about autozone, they warranty the new one for me.

Taking it out you can cut it up in pieces but taking it out in 1 piece would show you how to reinstall it..it is rough..especially the fittings on the rack
May end up cutting it. Downloaded the video so I can blow it up to full screen so I won't need it all in one piece. Will definitely be taking the air box out. Of course we do have a Aveo so in the meantime we aren't stranded but yea a tough situation anyway we live 10-40mi from civilization or work.

Most likely around $800.00

How do I get the clamps off the hose by the rack ? Having a hard time I just need to change the hose

Nothing with the subframe, crowfoot and from the top and you can only turn it a bit at a time till its loose.
Does the high pressure line hook up in the rack to the connection lowest to the ground or the one above that?
It's been awhile but it should be the top
