    We notebook everything except math. I have for years. The important thing is to have faith that your kids will learn what they need to and let go of covering "everything.". This is easier when you realize that you can't make kids learn anything. They learn what interests them and has meaning to them. I start with lapbooking(not pre-made, commercial lapbooks but original personally created ones which are really 3D notebooks) and move into notebooking. I've seen how notebooking works as I have 2 that have graduated and are now in careers and are lifelong learner's.

      10529Erin how many pages do they notebook a day? Does this replace language arts?

      @@katieb9312 All of this depends on the child. With Bible, they notebook almost daily depending on what we do. If its reading through the Bible chapter, then yes its daily. My husband made a page for me with three boxes. They do 1 box daily. So three days can go on one page. They write down the verses they read(or copy off mine) and they can write or draw whatever they want. We use their previous note booking entry to help with review before going on the next day. If we cover catechism that day, then we dont notebook. In their school subjects not every day is notebooked. Many, many days are an oral narration (which I do a lot and also comes before notebooking). In history, I have 2 pages a week assigned to one child and for my special needs children I assign here and there. My gifted child figures out his own pages and my special needs, I direct more. Notebooking does all language arts until jr high. I teach concepts here and there based on the notebooking. I can see punctuation stuff or paragraph things, that sort of thing. In jr high, I add in some grammar on the side. I use Winston grammar and we use the cards and I dont require writing or workbooks. With my two special needs kiddos I did some all about spelling on the side and they used the tiles. I also require copywork which has been super beneficial (1 a week). Copywork makes great notebook pages and really helps develop spelling and punctuation. So out of 5 kids, I only did spelling with two. My oldest daughter was a terrible speller and it has worked itself out over time and she now works for a book publisher so I dont worry about spelling as much. She is still learning and she's 24. Science is notebooked- about 2x a week. For my 10th grader next year, I will add in a bit of traditional writing. I will back off on numbers of notebook pages on weeks that he might have a writing assignment. Also I dont correct spelling or usage things on notebook pages. If I know its something they know, I will (in pencil), put an asterisk at beginning of line for them to hunt down and fix something. I treat notebook pages as art and personal. I might make note on my planner, to cover something somewhere else. I also make spelling banks of words to use ie make a list on a whiteboard of possible needed words for some notebook pages. So, all said and done, some children night notebook once a day(Bible) and some 3x as my son will do all history pages on Weds as he likes to get done early. They are free to choose what days to do their pages. Although I help my special needs kiddos with planning. I keep a gigantic notebook next to my printer with the free notebook pages I've collected on the internet. They are in page protectors and the kids just copy what they want. You can copy right through a page protector. You dont need to pull them out. We dont do reading notebooking per se. Mostly reading goes along with other subjects and they just read on the side. At the end of each year they each make a lapbook on a book. Even my high schoolers lapbook occasionally. It's really a book report but you will NEVER hear me use that term. I can get in literary analysis this way. I would recommend adapting how much you do to each child. I never require more than 2 pages per week in any subject. My kids would burn out. I never have complaints of notebooking as long as I'm aware of not assigning too much in a week and occasionally I have dropped a page in a week if all of a sudden something comes up on our calendar. Hope that helps. 🙂

    Do you require them to spend a certain amount of time notebooking? What ages are your kids when this really starts to become successful ?

    • @ArispeLand
      @ArispeLand  3 роки тому

      No time requirement and I find it successful at every age. My youngest to oldest all join in . It looks different for each age but that's the beauty of it.

    just found your channel....I have always been intrigued by notebooking but a bit afraid to try it. You make it sound easy. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Would love for you to check out my channel as well. I think homeschoolers supporting homeschoolers is so important because I know I grow because of people like you who share what they know. ❤

    Another comment, did not mean to be unkind, it was an excellent video otherwise.

    That is not what "simplistic" means. If you are home schooling, you need to at least have a good grasp of the English language.
