What a legend
The king and the prince. Super cool interview. It is so so nice that in our sport, commentators speak out so freely, showing respect at thé same time. We, amateurs, learn from that and in the end, no-one gets better from sweet talk or maskerades
Very good interview !!! @Jan you were getting somewhere in the last minutes on the discussion on pressure, the sentence "...you work your life to have pressure, right?, because people expect something of you, that's pressure, but that's also because you've performed..." The relationship between the self-imposed pressure - related to the athlete's expectations, with the pressure that build upon time as the athlete achieves good results - raises external expectations, and how you navigate this relationship is very interesting. It can be transferred to many other life contexts and professions, not only triathletes. Thanks for brining this up in this apparently relaxed - but thoughtful - exchange. Something I would have loved to hear more is how the way you manage this relationship impacts on how you deal with setbacks or days when things don't go as expected.
Such an intelligent racer. If Ali Brownlee had raced more like him, he would have a few more long course wins. Front pack swim, undroppable on the bike and then patient on the run… let others decide the pace. Also makes for exciting races.
