This is a time-lapsed version of the barndominium build we recently finished. I left smartside off since we just put all that content out. If you want the interior framing as well as the smartside and entire wrap up, let me know down below in the comments. If you want a well built and efficient home (barndo on a budget) a barndominium or post frame (pole barn) home might be a good option for you.

@@jwristen24 I've seen a lot his vids as well. He is in Kansas, Kyle is in Illinois. Im researching costs in different areas for different types of structures as I will be building in Texas next year. Contacting people out in the area I'll be moving to has yielded very little information as they only want to give average cost/sq ft. for turn-key completion. I'm a finish carpenter and will be doing most of the final work myself after drywall, electrical, hvac, and plumbing is done.

Pure joy watching your content. What we need now.... we need builders like yourself to "certify" builders in other locations so that those of us that don't live near you can find builders that will use the same techniques as we see in these videos. It's always disappointing to watch these techniques just to find that the builders in our areas don't! I want this quality and craftsmanship, but have no way to guarantee I'll get it once the deposit check clears the bank. Just a thought...

I've never heard of full post frame building but my experience was building Habitat for Humanity houses which is the typical stick frame build. I did that for a couple of years until life changed direction. We inherited a cinder block built house when my husband's grandmother died and I want to demo it and start from the concrete foundation, add to it and build up. It was built in the 40s as a summer home so it's very small and possibly not structurally sound. We need to get an engineer out to look at it. I'm going to show my hubby this video and see what he thinks of this kind of build in case it turns out we have to demo the existing structure. Thanks for putting this out.

Hi I’m a framer/builder for a general contractor in Roanoke Virginia, and if you don’t mind I have a few questions for you.
    1. What is the air nail gun you were using that you tan out of nails with twice and what is its advantage over standard air nail guns?
    2. Did the owner opt out of siding and why?
    3. What was the ballpark cost of that structure?
    4. You have the best tools/equipment, and you do a very quality work especially compared to industry standards, how do you make such a company profitable? Is UA-cam a significant financial supplement?
I am curious in different building styles and methods versus your conventional framing which is what I do mostly thanks for any input!

Looks faster (thus cheaper) than a 'normal' house build, but does look like a tad more 'industrial building' looking. Even a single dormer would really improve it. Love the idea of new approaches, so this is a great video/project. I think the roof trusses saved TONS of time, and can go wide spans without center support, but sacrificed any storage / living space above. Could a higher roof pitch be put on, (adding support hidden in a 1st story wall) and add some living area on a 2nd floor be done? If so, it would look really like a home. That being said, the porch is a nice addition.

Hey guys - I went to check out the building plans for this job to see the sq. ft. and layout. I suppose the box really is all that matters. Still, some demensions would be helpful. If anything, a layout would help me to determine if something like this will work for us. Just need overall demensions to see if it'll fit our requirements. Thanks again for all you've done. I'd really like to see the siding, inside, and a final cost breakdown w/o labor included if possible. Thanks you guys!

I have seen other post framers on youtube not put sheathing on the roof or the siding. What are the pros and cons to sheathing? Seems like if you are putting metal roofing or siding its not entirely necessary, and it doesnt seem like sheathing provides much for air barrier or insulation that spray foam or 3" insulation board with flashing tape wouldnt.

You can finance post frame homes if the posts aren’t going in the ground. As you see here Kyle used sturdiwall wet set brackets to keep the posts above ground. Perma columns would be my favorite option but the wet set brackets are fantastic. Midwest Perma Column can get you squared away with answers on what you need and getting it financed like you would a stick house. Best guys in the business, same guys Kyle and Mr postframe both use. Brad and Dave are great.
