This is the best video on the internet. I went to school for 2 years and needed a refresher after being off work for a while. Ive never been able to read a diagram more clearly. Great job making it clear and simple!
Unbelievable. After searching high and low finally someone knows something and someone knows how to explain things in a comprehensible manner. I also think this person LOL
I just want to say wow. I guess I also want to say thank you! You are very good at explaining things and it is such a commodity in this world. I really appreciate your video and just thank you thank you thank you. You are a gentleman amongst scholars
you book is well done but enough for my brain that wants more input . i appreciate the hard work you put in to book and all your videos . keep up the amazing work
Buenos días soy de cuba para mi sus vídeos son únicos pues nadie se toma el tiempo de explicar cómo usted, desearía poder escucharlo en español de ser posible. MUCHÍSIMAS GRACIAS 👍
Craig, I love your videos, you are a great teacher and always give crystal clear explanations when covering a topic. However, I will have to disagree with the names you give the two types of wiring diagrams in this video. I was taught nearly 45 years ago the diagram to the left as I'm viewing them is the schematic or ladder diagram and the other is a pictorial diagram. Yes, the schematic diagram shows the connections and the pictorial diagram does this also and in addition the pictorial diagram shows the positions of the components with respect to one another. It also roughly depicts where they are located i.e. outdoor unit, air handler and so on. Please keep on giving us excellent info. Thanks, Rick. Craig, Oops, you were right.I didn't see the schematic diagram you were referring to above the pictorial diagram. Never mind, my bad. Sorry.
When replacing a bad contactor on that heat pump, make sure to follow the wiring color code and get the wires connected the same way to new contactor. If you mistakenly put the wire going to t1 of the defrost board on the same side of contactor with wire going to common, defrost will not work and you will wind up with a giant ice ball outside on condenser.
As always, great video. Nicely explained information. Thank you !!! I've purchased your book and cards. Those are excellent also and easy to understand.
Brother your videos have helped me so much don’t know how to pay u back in life, but if we ever meet in CA I’ll invite u to my house for some non stop CARNE ASADA, BEANS, HOT SALSA and BROSKIES 🍺
Note for Trane & American Standards heat pumps-your circuit diagrams may be much different from this one, especially if you have a demand defrost model with heat sensor thermistors for ambient and the coil.
hello, I started to see all your videos as they are the most complete videos I've seen about heat pumps. I have a question for you, have you worked with York heat pump package units? I have model YMKE60BNJMFMO-X and when it was winter time, it would blow "warm" air as it should but then the outdoor fan would stop and the air would turn cold and it would just blow cold. I thought it was the defrost cycle but the cold air never stopped. an hour could easily pass by with cold air so I had to turn off the unit and turn it back on at a later time or different day. any ideas why that would happen?
Thanks for nice video. If in case you like to remake this video. Untie all wires then you explains what wire where it goes to because touching the wire for beginners is confusing and have no clue where that wire physically goes to. The part you can explain half of the video only schematic then the second half/video you do both the schematic and wiring where they can follow and match with schematic. Again that was my suggestion. Thanks again for your great 👍 effotrs.
it's game over when you learn heat pumps. Traditional split system AC's are a piece of cake when you learn the meat and bones of heat pumps. Refrigeration is just something else i tell ya
They label the DR coil and also the DR contacts between OF1 and OF2 going to the fan motor in the top part of the schematic. But they only imply the DR coil also closes the contacts to O and W2 by alignment even though that is usually a separate relay (the rectangular relay in the upper left of the board) that activates in parallel with the outdoor fan (DR) relay. I presume that is covered by the "& Circuitry" part of the label for "DR".
Great video as always. Question. I am getting ready to replace my 30 year heat pump and it has a CC heater on it. I live in north west VA do you think I should request a CC heater on my new heat pump? Thanks in advanced. RG
Hi could you help to understand how to connect an aprilaire humifier 700 to a Heatpump airhandler? I understand the mechanic part, I need to know the low voltage connections. thanks for u help!!!!!!
hi i just swap old r22 outdoor Cooling only unit with Goodman heat pump but keept old gas furnace has control board C G Y W R how i can wire properly heat pump to old gas furnace boad ? need a heat pump as a back up most of the time i use gas furnace for heating thermostat has C K RS R W O/B Y G W2aux/E Y2 L has 5 wires coming from furnace outdoor has 5 wires as well . im EPA certified based of NYC . THANK YOU IN ADVACE !!!
that's heat-pump "heating" run time "between" defrost cycles, the actual defrost cycles is 10 minutes or less down to seconds. he did accidentally say seconds vs minutes lol. please go make some videos so we can critique them =p
Hi, I have the same unit that is the video, a Carrier unit, maybe a couple years old, which is blowing the 3amp fuse every time that I turn on the heat pump. I already check all possible bad wire nuts connections, striped wires, thermostat, but still.......I need help please!....a friend of mine says that could be the solenoid reverse valve. let me know what could it be please. Thanks for your videos.
Often, the two heat strips are powered in sequence via the sequencer and basically all the strip heating is powered together after the first couple min, thanks!
i'd look at that decal and see items missing i'd figure it was either the wrong one or the unit had been modified. usually optional items are encircled in a dotted line and marked opt or optional.

this was huge for me. no one has explained this to me so clearly. God bless you.
Great editing. Doing it this way instead of jump cuts really helps understanding what is going on.
Glad you liked it!

I love these old fixed speed units, so simple compared to inverter units so prevalent now

Effotrs..
thanks for all videos . can you clarify for me , when we triple vacuum we need to release all nitrogen out or need to left 2 psi and start vacuum
Revisiting this video
Great video
Thanks for the visit
this helped a lot thank u
Great Video. Have a nice weekend. Thank you for sharing ^_^

Welcome
Thanks!
Thank you for your contribution and for watching my video! I hope this video on reading a heat pump's diagram was helpful!!
Thanks so much for your encouragement!!!
Hi, do you have any video about crankcase heater ? I do not understand why de crankcase heater stop, when the contactor is activated , thank you
Great Video !
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you
How can you find out when your reversing valve needs to be energized on cooling or heat modes?
I have this same GrandAire 2 tin 14 seer heat pump. Condenser won't turn on but does if I push the button on the contactor
Did you find out what the problem was? I have the same issue.
@Roy Johnson yes, turns out the thermostat was not set for heat pump!
I was taught that those two schematics are called the pictoral diagram and the ladder diagram.
Hi could you help to understand how to connect an aprilaire humifier 700 to a Heatpump airhandler? I understand the mechanic part, I need to know the low voltage connections. thanks for u help!!!!!!
The Only way you fail is to quit.. love it
thanks sir
Most welcome
Does the PTC bypass the capacitors initially until it get hot ?? or what is its purpose
Thanks
The best

hola como puedo tomar el curso de hvac soy de mexico pero no se mucho ingles

If you are still having this problem it very well could be the contactor for the compressor. They will go bad.
such an awesome fucking video. amazing.
I didn’t understand the conductor part on the circuit board.. could you please elaborate?....
9:42 it is mins you said it in another video and in the schematic
Anybody else notice how off the superheat chart was on this particular unit
Hello sir good afternoon
Hello there
Your hvac program very very very excellent ...... I like the best . my name is son....thank you
👍👍
Funny thing is, I never see diagrams of heat pump with two stages of electric heat in the air handler.
Often, the two heat strips are powered in sequence via the sequencer and basically all the strip heating is powered together after the first couple min, thanks!
@@acservicetechchannel The sequencer has W1 and W2 terminals, these aren't for two strip heat stages?
i'd look at that decal and see items missing i'd figure it was either the wrong one or the unit had been modified. usually optional items are encircled in a dotted line and marked opt or optional.
Hi. Can you write me, please.
So much info lol
Great video, Thanks
