    Jon's motto and advice to all he encountered since the late 90's has been to "Collect What You Love". His start in card collecting began in the early 90's when he dad gifted him some 1950's Topps Baseball Cards. He thought that they were amazing, and soon thereafter he discovered that cards of players in his favorite sport (basketball) also existed... and so his collection began!
    His first retail job was as a night manager for a sports card store in New York at the early age of 14. Between the store and countless card shows Jon attended, he became hooked on cards and grew to have a great understanding of the moving card market. As an eBay member and avid Beckett subscriber since 1998, he's experienced the ups and downs, and has kept basketball card collecting as a hobby straight through it all - ever since his childhood.
    He now owns hundreds of thousands of cards including some of the most sought after rookies, autographs and inserts from the 90's up until today. He also has a large collection of autographed and game-used memorabilia. This channel is all about sharing Jon's love and knowledge of the hobby with others. Please feel free to leave a comment or reach out to Jon directly on his Instagram!

    Awesome post! I enjoyed my 36 minutes watching this precious clip. I just want to point out that the first Skybox Autographics stated odds was 1:72(not 1:288).
    And your English pronunciation sounds clear and easy for even foreigners to understand.
    Thanks Jon & keep up good work!

      Thanks for watching!! And thanks for the clarification on the odds. I could have sworn they started as 1:288 in hoops but all of my quick googling says otherwise. Maybe I can find an old pack wrapper to confirm! At any rate thanks again!

    WOW! Bud, I am an older graph collector of the past. They use to be called graph hounds. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Honestly I thought I knew everything about collecting, but learned many new things from your video. Thank you!

    Very good video. I think it will help the youngsters. Years ago in the 90's we used to collect autographs till shortly after 911. 911 made things really difficult!

    I love this! Great info. Congrats on completing the 96-97 Autographics!🥳 those early 90s Fleer autos of guys like Pippen Drexler Mutombo and Wilkins are tricky. They didn’t have any real authentication back then 🤯

    Excellent information throughout, great watch. I know you are not an MMA guy but look up the Blowout Thread on the Donald Cerrone red ink autos from a few years ago that Cowboy himself admitted were signed by friends during a night of drinking and somehow got mailed back to Topps. Wild stuff!

    Nice info! Maybe you could wear the glasses that have a camera built in to record and they may not know it assuming they wouldn’t want you to 😅.
    My most cherished autograph is Kobe Bryant 1996 Score Board Red. The card is definitely a BGS 9.5 and the auto appears genuine to me, nice and fluid and consistent with his early full name autos. I say all this because Score Board went defunct and before they went under they were fulfilling autographs by signing them themselves as they couldn’t afford to pay the player anymore. There’s a long story but that’s basically what happened. Since you’re so knowledgeable in the subject I’d like to know your take on that. Also, their SB embossing stamp is now everywhere and being used to ‘authenticate’ cards forged and that weren’t even made by SB to begin with.

      That's correct. I've also talked to the former CEO at Scoreboard about this and it is a sad state of affairs that there are so many fakes out there these days. Kobe's autograph evolved over time and so it's important when looking at the score board ones that you find one that was period authentic - that is it matches the way he signed then, not in the 00's and not in the panini products now. Feel free to drop me an email or DM on instagram anytime if you want me to take a look at a specific card with you. Always happy to share my honest opinion.

    I have a Michael
    Jordan cut item signed authenticated by Michael Jordan he did at a charity golf event. I believe it’s real. Approved by Joe Orlando at PSA. So even though Jordan is exclusively upper deck, I believe this is still real.

    • @BasketballCardGuy
      @BasketballCardGuy  2 роки тому +1

      Awesome. Yeah as I mentioned in the video the best you can do is UDA for Jordan since they witness the signature, but that doesn't mean you can't get something signed and have it authenticated with an opinion certificate after.

    • @Daniel_B_23
      @Daniel_B_23 2 роки тому

      @@BasketballCardGuy yeah I can’t afford a UDA one. I paid $330 for the cut auto from a bill of a golf hat and got it authenticated from PSA. Just sad I can’t afford a UDA one. I tried saving up for one of those 45 “I’m back” autos 8x10 but they went as high as $1,500 and just can’t do that. But for now I’ll be ok with PSA one, as it’s all I can afford.
