The bird factoids were almost as fascinating as the evolution of Michael & Hank's hair.
Just for future reference, "factoids," by definition are always untrue or unproven. Not just little fact morsels. Lol I guess you could call em bird tidbits?
Ikr? I figure Michael is just waiting till he can safely head to a salon. 😊
@@semaj_5022 For future reference - it can mean that.
It can also mean (especially in AE use) a correct, but context-less piece of trivial information.
www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/factoid
So John Drummond´s statement was not wrong.
While yours was, stating only one of the two common definitions.
@@nilesbutler8638 I guess it's been used incorrectly so much that it just might as well mean both now, huh? Lol well that's how language evolves. Words only mean anything at all when people agree that they do
@@semaj_5022 True. When I learned what "netflix&chill" really means nowadays, I nearly spit out my tea.
The singing one reminds me of when my mom had Gouldian Finches. A pair had babies and when they were learning to sing from dad, one decided to try to mimic my lovebird instead. It was adorable watching this little finch puff itself up as much as it could and squawk as loud as it could like a lovebird
I hope for a world where everybody know that the bird is the word.
Idea for a show: how do whales survive hurricanes at sea? They have to get to the surface to breathe once in a while, but if there's a huge storm up there, do they have trouble catching a breath?
Woah, throwback Michael.
In one recent video you could see that streak at the tip of his long hair
A video all about bird facts? What a lark! Oh don't grouse at me, I've got tons of puns like this and you'll love them owl.
... I'll see myself hoot.
I read this as "your big bird questions, answered" and think it would be hilarious to *science* out how a big bird (from sesame street) could exist.
Weird, I know.
Oh wow. I remembered that episode where Hank is just rapping an entire sentence without breaks.
"Electrocution is usually fatal for birds"
Yes, that's what "electrocution" means.
Electro-execution.
@mark heyne that's because you've been electrified, not electrocuted. If I'm not mistaken, by definition, electrocution is death by electric shock, so death (execution) is implied in the word 🤔
It can also mean an injury. Not always resulting in death but yeah, usually.
L as in L correct: the definition is to kill OR seriously injure.
@@teodelfuego well, the more you learn!
Sometimes it takes a moment to remember that electrons move from low to high potential, but "current" moves from high to low... because the convention is that current is movement of positive charge, while electrons are negatively charged...
XD
Sometimes, it feels like some conventions are only kept to make physics tests harder.
It's actually because if you say electrons are the positive charge, the equations all become negative and throw a bunch of related sciences out of whack.
SciShow, don't you know about the bird? Everybody knows that THE BIRD IS THE WORD
We all know birds sit on the cords to charge there battery
I can just look over and see my little dinos!!! Love my pet birbs.
Really sucks that we'll never see Olivia on here again 😭
Wait why?
@@Usrthsbcufeh She left the channel
@@Shandakai Awh:(
At least we got to see her again in this vid. Twice, even!
@Bitterkind Because being hateful and spiteful is better, right? Hate and toxicity never leads to change.
What About Peafowl!!?! They are an iconic bird species, yet you've never done a SciShow about or specifically including them.
Hank is a national treasure.
Ok, but how does the government change their batteries?
That’s the real reason the government is making us stay inside. Now they can change the batteries with less chance of somebody spotting them.
They recharge themselves on those power lines duh.
@@DocumentaryHub except when their batteries die...like the one that crashed into my window on the first day of the first quarantine near the beginning of the year.
@@raistlarn that's the self destruct mode.
XD Im laughing
"If there's one thing birds are famous for..."
Umm, not existing of course!
kikiriki I like reapers
Actually, if bird feet were wider apart and the current through the power line is high enough, it could get electrocuted anyways. There is a small voltage across its two feet given by the current times the resistance of the portion of conductor between both feet. So.... there is a current running through the bird, but it is often way too small to cause any harm or even be noticed.
Ah but Johnny needs to know why there are feathers around their cloacas
Shoutout to birds, love you guys ♥️
Former dinosaurs my foot. They’re still dinosaurs X3
So for this video, bird truly is the word.
7:00 I stuck a pipe cleaner in an electrical socket once. Didn't tell anyone for about 30 minutes because I didn't want to get in trouble.
I'm telling.
qwertyferus snitches end up in ditches
Those were good questions but I still want to know what type of bird John Oliver is.
A moderately deformed toucan, obviously
I love these vids cause I really love birds I've always loved em even as a kiddo!!
Thank goodness they're only little flying dinosaurs, well, most of them are anyway... :P
I need more facts about biiiirds especially parrots. This was a very interesting video. I find anything to do with birds wonderful! (So sad about the Swifts though :( )
parrots hands down win. not only their soeaking ability but their ability to live an extraordinary long life
Love how they forgot to mention that bird singing is also a sign of them saying hey this is my territory you best stay away
“Electrocution” used to always mean death for any animal. But so many people have misused that word when they meant “electric shock”, that the definition now allows for mere injury. So we have lost a precise word and “electrocution” and “electric shock mean almost the same thing.
I hear birds singing often at night. Not sure why they do this but I don't mind. I find bird song really beautiful and pleasant to hear. Also love the sound of Cicadas. - Heidi
The hair throwbacks! ✨
"If there is one thing that birds are famous for" -- it's probably flying.
Hank definitely wrote this video. Mr pelican himself
Say goodbye to at least a part of this video. Hank has spilled the beans in another recent video.
On the topic of birds surviving hurricanes. We have many sparrows who live & hang out near our house. During hurricane Michael a bunch of sparrows got stuck. You see, our house is L shaped & in the 90 degree angle of our house the strong winds created sorta a tiny vortex. It’s hard to explain, imagine looking out the window & seeing a bunch of sparrows being blown around in a tight circle in the corner of the house. They were chirping like mad & couldn’t fly against the wind to escape. During the peak of the storm I couldn’t see them cause it white walled but I swear I could still just barely hear the chirps of the birds over the roar of the storm. After the storm they were gone & there weren’t any dead birds so I figured they survived. So I guess that’s another way birds survive storms or maybe they were just lucky no debris hit them.
After ElNino, late 1990's, there where sea gulls in Lubbock Texas
Loved the Chekov’s gun at the end
After the storm, I would imagine birds that didn't make it out alive are snatched up by cats and other predators.
I watched this before my exam and instead of passing with flying colors, I got fowl scores
I simp for Michael 💙
As a birb daddy, this makes me happy
RED BULL MAY GIVE YOU WINGS BUT...?
Nature is always quite interesting 🎊
Why does his hair look great both long and short. Not fair
Haha!
lol
My biggest question is why do those little birds not freeze to death in the middle of the cold winter months! How is it even possible!
For me? Oh, you shouldn't have~
If the early bird gets the worm, the worm should have slept in.
I love birds so much. I have a parrot named Summer, also can you guys make a video on parrot
9:04 says this as i'm eating pizza & watching scishow
Some birds perch on one leg in Florida. Maybe they are also regulating body temperature- keeping cooler?
The early worm gets the bird.
Air traveler!!
10:55
Though isn't that low pressure a problem? Low air pressure means less lift.
I would like to know about what I call Bird Church.
Seems like twice a day, once in the early morning and once in the late afternoon, birds of a feather flock together in a very small area (like a bush or tree or two, depending on size of the bird) and everyone seems to be talking at the same time.
I like to think they’re Che king in with each other, letting their friends know where the good bird feeders are, etc.
Is there a name for this behavior? Has it been studied? What is its purpose?
Hank is so entertaining
"In a cold day the blood going in to your fingers and toes is a little bit colder"
People with Raynaud syndrome: cry
BIRD UP! 🦅
Cool video
I used to have a budgie. So i'm a bird friend.
Former dinosaurs 😂
Aren't they technically still dinosaurs?
Hank is my hero.
Nonono birds *should* be zapped by powerlines but its stimply that their understanding of the universe is not *grounded* in classical physics.
😂
"former" dinosaurs
Nice hair man!
I thought flamingos slept one half at a time, but no idea where I heard that...maybe QI?
I got tomorrow coming
I love the bird compilation thanksgiving tradition!
android 16: bird! bird! bird!
Larger bats and overhead electrical cables are also not a good mix.
You have to hand it to birds, cuz birds don't have hands
I say its to dry one foot at a time .
Seriously mine would be pruned af🤣🤣🤣🤣parasites would tend to dryout and die too
She's prego!!!! What a lucky blind guy!!!!
Inspirational...i think i will be inspired by humming bird parkour for a beautiful girl lolz like gambit lol you guys are the best! God bless the multiverse! Micheal faraday is my ninja!
I'm from the UK & have probably an unusual Question about Birds for any body out there!,
Pigeons are what I'LL use as an example, I see Lots everyday & most are in Flocks & others in Pairs or 3's etc, but Me being a Loner have Spotted quite a few who seem to be isolated on their own, are Birds prone to be Loners Like Humans or is there another Explanation?!,
Take Care,
Thanks,
M.S.1591.
It was my parents keys I stuck in the electrical outlet and I didn't find electricity with dangerous I found that it was fun and it tickled
According to my parents I did this from the time that I could crawl around until I was Walkin and talkin, anytime they weren't paying attention I would find their keys and stick him in the electric socket even if I had to climb a 6-foot bookshelf to do it
Yyyyyaaaawwwwsssss
OH OH, HE SAID AMONG US!! HAHAHAHA, AMOGUS, SUSUSUSUS, HAHAHAHA
how did you become 10 years younger? wow!!!
I won’t listen to their words, because I like .. birds
Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirdman! Attorney at Law.
Birbs!
They’re not singing, they’re laughing at us cuz we can’t fly
I like birbs.
FORMER DINOSAUR LMAO
They didn't answer the most fundamental question of all...
What _are_ birds?
*We just don't know*
Except that the tail feathers and vertical tail on a plane do THE EXACT SAME THING!!!! It's simply oriented horizontally and they can move it in multiple directions to counter the issues
Why are they referring Amy Farah-Fowler as "Olivia" ?
*"Decimated"*...? Since when is %10 equal to half, hmmm? Lol
Hmmm anyone ever catch Big Bird standing on one leg. 😉
Hilarious
hello
So if we stood on the power line we would be fine?? 🤔🤨
Birb
Dino Nuggs are actually Dino Nuggs....
you mean birb?
Penguins
Is there a parasitic bird?
Cuckoos and Cowbirds deposit their eggs in other species' nests and let the foster parents raise their young. This is considered a form of parasitism.
Former… dinosaurs…?
