  • Everyone has to start somewhere when they decide that music is the path for them, and these were the first two banjos that got us going. Side note, this was filmed last year while I was borrowing the Style M from my father.
All the best and keep rollin,

Bought my Iida banjo, made in Japan, in 1975. Still play it.

    It’s a great video, Russ.
My first 5-string was a 1990 Musima made in east Germany, one of the last they ever made. It looked as if it had been put together 5 minuts before closing time on a friday afternoon, so as you can imagine, it was’nt particularly good, but was the best I could afford. Shortly after a friend of mine gave me a 1936 Gibson RB75.

G,Day Russ & Ned, my first was a Washburn which I've still got along with my new Osborne Chief which is absolutely fantastic. But I hit hard times and had to put them both in the pawn shop temporary. Witch I will be getting out as soon as possible guaranted. I haven't played for 2 months and I miss it. cheers from Down Under

Ned, back in the mid 70's, my first banjo was the same "bottle cap" type with an eagle on the back of the resonator. After taking lessons for a while, I wanted a better banjo and so I built one using Stew Mac parts in 1978. It was mahogany, and I did my own inlay. I even inlaid a flower on the back of the resonator. That banjo, just like yours, was stolen in a house robbery in 1993. Never saw it again, even though they found the thief.

my second banjo was the same framus as neds....uncanny!!...my first was a Kay....then bought this same Framus model from andy perkins UK for 180 quid in 93 weighed a ton....busked all over uk with it and played a few pubs and wine bars too...when you took the resanator off it to quiet it down a bit... that flange plate would saw through your jeans..i swapped it in 99 for a bass guitar in corby uk the shop owner wanted it for his wall

Not really a banjo nerd like us? Skip to 4:10 to hear us play "Soldiers Joy" together!

Skip nothin’! I started with the one Ned played and it had the original head he described.
You hit another one out of the park with this video.

Fun video ~ It would be fun to try playing sometime. I'm an old dinosaur flatpicker from a past life. Once my Dad traded a horse for an old tenor as partial payment. It was cool for awhile, finally went the way of the wind. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe out there.

I had a Framus Texan guitar from the70's. Built like a tank. Would have made a good weapon. So , so as a guitar.
