- A former neighbour of Angela Rayner has accused the senior Labour figure of being 'a f**king liar', in the row over the purchase of her council house.
Julia Hartley-Brewer: "The documents for buying and selling this home don't match up."
The deputy Labour leader was criticised in Parliament and reported to HMRC by Conservative MPs over a levy she allegedly owed on profit made when selling her former council house.
Tax experts have calculated the bill to be in the region of £1,500, she has faced calls to be more transparent about her tax affairs.

Rayner has potentially committed Council Tax fraud (receiving a discount on an empty property) or mortgage fraud. If that's the case, it will only not be harmful to her career if Labour cover for her and the media let her off the hook. Personally, I don't want a deputy PM who is guilty of either of those things and of lying about it. It all needs to come out so there's transparency.
Incidentally, 'it's too complicated a story to gain traction' is exactly what led to the 2008 financial crash.

Lots of labour councillors where I live bought their council houses after shouting about Maggie Thatcher selling them off! Two faced party!
I once worked with a diehard labour supporter who hated Maggie, everything she did and everything she stood for. Yet when she started privatising the energy sector and selling shares to the public, he was first in line with multiple applications for shares. When I asked him why - he claimed Maggie was forcing him against his will to buy the shares! And yup, he sold them for a profit as soon as he could.

@teresab7575 My favourite is when Starmer slags off the Conservatives for the economic situation - which, anyone with any sense could have foreseen, when most of the country was locked in their homes on and off for nearly 2 years. Somehow, of course, it would have worked out so much better if Labour had had their way and locked down the country even more.

The Private Residence Relief for Capital Gains Tax, as stated on HMRC wesbite, says, "you have one home and you’ve lived in it as your main home for all the time you’ve owned it". If she moved in with her husband and children for years and then claimed PRR, she has made a false claim.

As far as I know to get the discount you have to live in the house, not live in another house. Also if she was living in another house then she was depriving another family on the housing list from living in the property 🤔

With regard to our democracy, the closing comments have to be the saddest thing I’ve heard in a long time. Are we really that far gone that we are complicit in enabling our elected representatives to behave so badly?
I would be questioning of this was another tax fiddle whereby MP's can claim expenses when living in a 2nd home. Expenses that would pay the mortgage, heating and lighting bills, Council tax, water rates etc especially if its use is deemed as their working establishment. I doubt that this will be investigated because so many MP's change their home address to get a free home they can later sell at a great profit or rent out for a steady income. Angela summed it up - SC- UM
Seems like it is hard to find any Honesty in The House of Commons or Parliament as if you tell the TRUTH you are thrown out or dismissed.
