20 hr national squad swimming training per week plus hours of stretching, weights, recovering... my full time job is my part time job for my full time sport this vid, this sport, this sportsmen and women rocks
Cycling's the hardest part in Ironman! I did my 1st last Sept at IM-MOO. Just train yourself for a century ride, a marathon and a 4,000 yd open water swim at the same time. Cut out all the filler workouts, include some threshold and recovery work and be very, very patient. Took me 3 years.
i have an olympic sized triathlon this sunday...my uncle just did ironman canada last week and it was a huge inspiration i learned to swim from the youtube videos...last september I did not know how to swim haha
wow, just watching them swim, riding, and running makes me tired already! lol but wow it must be the greatest feeling ever to ever finish this iroman tri, the greatest uber super mega feeling if u come first =D
20 hr national squad swimming training per week plus hours of stretching, weights, recovering... my full time job is my part time job for my full time sport
I'm about to do a triathalon this Sat. I'm excited, but it is a lot of technique. I was doing lots of weight training at first but I let that go quick once i figured out what triathalons were all about. Constant brick workouts work for me, bkie to run or swim to bike..
Awesome video and ide have to say one of the best clips of music used in an ironman video!!! Both motivational and inspirational. Ill defenately be putting this on my iPod playlist to play during my next training run!!! Well done!!
Well that really depends on what time you want to do. If you are generally fit and can swim/ride/run at a half decent level you could probably walk out the door now and do a 16 - 17 hour IM. If you want to crack 10 hours then you need to be exceptionally fit and a proper IM build program will take about 14 weeks and will range between 10 - 20 hours per week.
Best thing to do is go to the bike shop you trust that has a good bike fitter to find out if the frame will work for you they will be able to tell you exactly what size (cm) frame you will need :) good luck
Same for me. I started my preparation 2 years ago, and now everyday I do something. Swimming 4/w, running 4/w cycling 3/w ... My objective is the Nice IM in 2k10 !
I have a P2 & P3 - a big big fan of the P2! But...wheels alone can cost 3kUS$ - I was refering to the pro's and what they are riding now, really expensive stuff that has moved on in design a lot since '08 - the new Trek, Giant & Specialized in particular.
@cosg9531 I apparently had a "typo" accidentially switching the "a" behind the word "true". What I ment was "then you are a true waste". Nevertheless if someone plays the grammar-king he'll have to accept comments on his own deficiencies.
It's not crazy, it's more beneficial actually. Pouring water on yourself cools you down, which actually saves you energy because your body doesn't have to exert energy to cool you down. Where as if you drink water you will get a little energy from it but your body is using more energy to cool you down. So, it's smarter to pour it on yourself.
Yes these people are crazy lol I am crazy haha I am training for a triathlon myself. Ironman here I come! By the way, isn't it amazing that their marathon times alone, are well below the 'strict' boston qualifying times lol
@fclavijo true.. i've got a 15+year old peugeot (bike) and it's just fine... at least for the level i represent. I bought a lot of 2nd hand things only to have what is essential. If i nly had enough money to travel from europe to hawaii with all my gear i would extremely enjoy competing with all of the athletes riding my old buddy.
Min 3:20..I thought to the end of the bycicle session, athletes should be transport alone the bicycle inside the "change area".. ..who can give me some information about that maneuver?
The best part of any T is seeing some punk ass noob fly by one he bike clock-en 27mph and just barley whispering see you soon kid....6 hours latter the trill of the stalk and the rush of the take! O god yes gives me a shiver just writing it! YES TRI FOR LIFE!
@brunedeezy That might be the case for that 2 second snap shot in time but don't be fooled into thinking that even elite athletes sit in the perfect wind tunnel aero position for the 4 1/2 - 5 hours it takes them to bike 180km. They even sit back on the saddle and probably have the occasional refuel once in a while which is hardly aerodynamic. I don't know if you've ever biked any long distances but trust me after 3 hrs in the saddle your ass/nuts will be begging for a break from the pressure!
5 hours training a week, Brother! It's that easy! A realistic goal for you should be to eat 1 bag of chips instead of the usual two per sitting. Good Luck, See you in Kona!
@fclavijo Hopefully you're not referring to anyone in this video. This isn't a fashion show, the gear can and does make a world of a difference. Besides, none of these ppl pay for their own equipment, they're all heavily sponsored. Plus, we're not talking about louie voutton road bike with gold plating vs. a BERU f1 lol. Better gear typically means better performance and when your in a world championship, every second counts!!
@themodestguy It's not like you cannot train or race the Ironman if you dont have atleast those components... I saw a number of competitors riding worse bikes and finishing it. Dont be a slave to components.
As in any sport it is important NOT to believe all the ¨merchandising marvels¨offered by magz, webpages, etc. Sure you can build yourself a $8k-$10k bike, but you can also put together a $3k bike that will do 95% of what the $10k does....and actually for most of us its much more than enough. MAYBE Craig Alexander and Chrissie take advantage of all the ultra-topend gadgets, for mere mortals do not.
Big advance in frames from 08 to 09 - last season looks dated already! - it's an expensive sport. At least US$ 8,000 for a pro bike and easly 10k if you go all out!
20 hr national squad swimming training per week plus hours of stretching, weights, recovering...

I have to say... I watched this video before training, and it was fantastic. Good motivation.
i have an olympic sized triathlon this sunday...my uncle just did ironman canada last week and it was a huge inspiration

Fantastic answer to a question not posed.

@alexandraberger not sure in kilometres because Im english. But it's a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run.
@thorpt211 He's a swim referee, just to make sure there're no false starts.
@alexandraberger 3 Swimming, 180 with the bikes and 42 running. I thought that was the distance.
its amazing what humans can do
great job man!
8 hours to finish that iron man! Jesus

The ending was sick
@themodestguy true but youre not considering upgrades to either SRAM RED or dura ace, and throwing on a better wheelset
Same for me. I started my preparation 2 years ago, and now everyday I do something.
Swimming 4/w, running 4/w cycling 3/w ...

@WINYARD87 hardest thing you can possibly imagine , hell
Good luck, i'm gonna have my first in 2 months ;)
@cosg9531 I apparently had a "typo" accidentially switching the "a" behind the word "true". What I ment was "then you are a true waste". Nevertheless if someone plays the grammar-king he'll have to accept comments on his own deficiencies.
so im guessing youd have to bring youre own time trial bike like that? if that was all covered thats really cool

Can you recommend a bike branch? Which are you riding on?
@brunedeezy That might be the case for that 2 second snap shot in time but don't be fooled into thinking that even elite athletes sit in the perfect wind tunnel aero position for the 4 1/2 - 5 hours it takes them to bike 180km. Super humans racing other super humans.
@cosg9531 moreover it's not 'truly' but 'true' - no adverb in combination with a noun, need an adjective here.
what name of music ?
5 hours training a week, Brother! It's that easy!
A realistic goal for you should be to eat 1 bag of chips instead of the usual two per sitting.
Good Luck, See you in Kona!
@coolygirlconnie You guys are nutts! You seriously spend that much on bikes ? What's wrong with a regular $900 road bike ?

@themodestguy It's not like you cannot train or race the Ironman if you dont have atleast those components... I saw a number of competitors riding worse bikes and finishing it. Dont be a slave to components.
Why is there a guy on a surf board in the front?
@jyflyn the 14 people who dislikes this vid is sedentary trollss !!!

i agree.. they should shut their mouths ..
Big advance in frames from 08 to 09 - last season looks dated already! - it's an expensive sport. At least US$ 8,000 for a pro bike and easly 10k if you go all out!

@coolygirlconnie you make no sense
Horrrrible idea to make this a song. It should have just been the beat. Neat clips of video though.
mira no me guste este video porque es publicidad y porque la musica es mala
nice video and song. but the part where the chick sings is annoying and weird
2:00 worst aero position ever.
LOL so many unefficient TT bike positions....damn...
this is the singe thing i've always disliked about triathlons, the guys who make it all about the gear...
Dumb "song".
Good video with the sound off.
Nice video. Worst. music ever.
