- Vinyl (Sony PS-X5) - Frank Zappa - Eat That Question
Turntable: Sony PX-X5 Direct Drive
Phono Cart: Grado Red
Preamp: Rega Fono Mini
Stereo: Marantz 2235b
Notes -- Blessed Relief, the beautiful and soulful final track from Frank Zappa's 1972 classic, The Grand Wazoo. This song really betrays his television heritage; for some reason, I'm always reminded of the theme song from "The Odd Couple." This recording comes from the original Bizarre label pressing, which sounds fantastic. When you're hunting for Frank Zappa on LP, always get the Bizarre version! The Reprise LPs sound great, but the original records are just a touch better.
The turntable is my dependable Sony PS-X5 Direct Drive, and the phono cartridge is a Grado Red. The phono preamp is the Musical Fidelity V-LPS (w/PSU), and is connected to a Marantz 2235b stereo receiver.
This, Watermelon In Easter Hay, and Peaches In Regalia are some of his finest.
Oh, it's me.
The Poodle likes it and sometimes the poodle chews it !
Add Pink Napkins in there from the Shut Up N' Play Your Guitar trilogy. Breathtaking beauty.
You only mentioned the tip of the tip of the Iceberg named Frank Zappa.
Huge agree.
I feel like this song actually has a healing quality to it.
“Blessed Relief”, Soothes the mind and body !
The song is equal to a warm comfy bed !
F. Z. What a musical genius , guitarist , comic, guardian of human rights against censorship. Yes ,Frank Zappa & Dee Snyder of ‘
“Twisted Sister”,went to capital hill for us to fight censorship of music lyrics the government were imposing on the music industry in the late 1980’s.
Love his soft intricate doodling. The tune is exactly what it says on the tin.
i'm in heaven an this is the kind of music they play here
This is one of Frank's most beautiful pieces of music, I cried while listening to this on acid once
I'm crying while reading these comments.
I'm crying for Sharlena
Don't you know.....
Zappa would certainly have approved of that.
@@pasthomas Not the acid bit.
I think it's safe to say Frank Zappa and George Duke had a thorough understanding of music.
Frank not only was a great musician but helped bring out the greatness in every member of his ensamble at the time
Miss his genious
@@michaelabbott1586 I love the interview with George when he talks about Frank buying him a synth. He didn't want to play it. That changed! I believe the quote was "The greatest thing that happened in my life was that Frank broke down these rediculous barriers I had about music." That pretty much says it all.
This is my go to song for driving during rain. It’s the most soothing piece of music I’ve ever heard
The wildfire smoke is beginning to clear here in the Bay Area. This was the first song that came to mind. All hail the memory of FZ and his amazing musical supporting cast.
I bought this in Manchester in 1972 and I still play it. I introduced the music of Zappa to my son and he is a big fan,he plays it to his friends who are amazed and think he is cool, Zappa that is.
Frank gave us every thing through music and I will always be grateful and listening to his compositions as long as I am able.
one of my favourite FZ songs
RIP George Duke, you really shine on this song...
This is the sound of GOD, in case anyone was wondering what heaven sounds like ...
Frank not a fan of the 'god' concept, but I understand your sentiment.
The crucial difference being that thankfully this music actually exists.
I'll go with that.
This song has forever engrained itself in my soul.
I accept that as a metaphor... but I would rather say that Z brought heaven on earth. And what did he leave after him, was his music... on vinyl. I brought all my vinyls to my summer place in the Finnish wilderness and there are practically all Z-recordings starting from sixties. I am convinced that vinyl is the old faithful, high fidelity... Time and time again, it is coma.
RIP Mr. Duke.
Фрэнк ценил красоту и размеренность , иногда показывая экспрессию и музыкальный хаос. Заппа , спасибо!
I don't remember what program or documentary or special specifically, but when it got to talking about Zappa and his cancer and him nearing death, they played this song. It was perfect. I fell apart. RIP Frank and thank you for everything that you left us!
Alice Donut Dig the Suicidal Tendencies hat!
@@terrypussypower thank you! you've got a good taste in music!
Alice donut - i feel you, zappa was a great loss.. i miss his voice of sanity nowadays
It was a BBC documentary which was aired just before he died, if I remember the timing. They showed it again and added a lot of extra footage. Beautiful documentary giving another insight into Zappa.
FZ made my life more beautiful. I will thank him forever.
The most calming track ive ever heard
I used to play this to get my son to sleep when he was a baby, that's how amazing this song is.
SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH

@@swaggypanda1808 Hell yeah
He always had an intuition that made him write what musically intelligent people want to hear. He called it statistical density.
Indeed
Truly a masterpiece.
I find this one of the most amazing drum parts in the world - either someone else is playing along with Dunbar, it's double tracked or he's an amazing genius!
Frank did say in an introduction somewhere "this is Aynsley Dunbar, he sounds like 2 drummers"
My elder brothers favourite album, always played on Sunday mornings in the 70's. He is recovering in hospital after invasive surgery to fix an aortic anurism which nearly killed him. Gonna get this into his ears for some musical therapy!
Definitely on playlist in Heaven.
Hungover on the train home...I can't remember the first time I heard this but it always sounds so fresh. Watermelon In Easter Hay next...
Fuck I miss Frank, but George Duke more.
It might be my all time favourite FZ. I want this to be played at my wake. I absolutely adore this!
I've said the same !
beautiful tune, masterful players, one of my favorite zappa tracks
This my friends is what you call Masterful songwriting.
The song itself IS a drug.
all his shit is great@@RedElephantStampede
Song brighted up my soul. Brought tears to my eyes. Thank you, Frank.
This album, along with Waka/Jawaka was recorded while Zappa was rolling around in a wheelchair following his being pushed off the stage in London in Dec. '71.
Many a "Rock Star" in the same situation would use that recovery period laid up and eating fistfulls of meds. NOTHING could keep Frank Zappa from composing and recording! RIP, Uncle Frank
yes its very very true...
Not to mention come out of it with a very melodramatic song about their pain through the whole ordeal. Frank came out of it with songs about things like dental floss and stinky feet.
Peter Verhoeven What on Earth are you talking about “never went back to the UK”?
Zappa TOURED the U.K. on several occasions after the “Rainbow Theatre incident”!
I saw him live 5 times all over Scotland and England after the Rainbow attack, from 1975 in the Glasgow Apollo to 1988 at the Birmingham NEC.
Much of “Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar” and “Sheik Yerbuti” was recorded live in London at the Hammersmith Odeon years after the leg break incident.
@Peter Verhoeven I must have been dreaming when I saw him at Hammersmith Odeon in 84 and Wembley Arena in 88 then.
@Peter Verhoeven Fair enough, Peter. You can't always rely on rock journos for veracity. I'm totally with you on the vinyl thing, though. much better than digital.
Pure genius...
Honey for the soul - thanks for sharing this gem
Reminds me of my childhood
THE MASTER OF INVENTIONS!!!
True!
Zappa is like good wine. It improves with age.
Been listening to this since the album was released. Stunningly beautiful.
la plus merveilleuse poésie musicale qu'il ce peut....Merci Frank
I own the original LP on 'Bizarre' label. Sounds great.
Sal Marquez is a great trumpet player. F.Z. is playing a cheap yamaha acoustic thru a pignose. Gotta respect that. Yet then there is this man named George Duke who creates textures. + a young man named Aynsley Dunbar who has the laid ba ck triplet feel down.
Love Zappa!
Something made me want to look this up today - so glad I did. A side of Zappa's work that I wish there was more of....if there's more work of this nature residing in "the Vault" I hope it gets to see the light of day in the near future. Frank is missed for sure....RIP.
One of my favorite albums by Frank
Much as I love a lot of Franks music, this album, as an album, is my absolute favourite.
Increíble Frank.
Martin Lippi Es cierto, fue uno de los genios incomprendidos de la musica contemporanea
Frank was the Greatest...RIP
..after about 40 yrs. of understanding and admiring this man's work..it is still very hard to assess it's timeless power...george aynsley..sal..FZ..lordy..
Simply beautiful.
Amazing song, a truly blessed...
I listen to this song when I need to remind myself to appreciate everything... cheesy, but it's true :)
Alice Donut I feel like that's all this song tell us to do,
No soul
Alice Donut
It's a beautiful piece.
it's truer than it's cheesy... we all do!
Yes very cheedey
OMG I bought The Grand Wazoo on Bizarre when I was in college when it was released. It never gets old, especially this song. Sound of God, I agree!
Acompañar un viaje psicodélico con esta obra maestra no tiene precio
Very nice to listen to.
i return to this song every autumn...just a girl from Queens
Funny because it always reminds me a summer evening... just a guy from France
wow..that relay was vinyl...I heard a pop right at the end. how nostalgic.
cheers
Listening to it on my vinyl copy right now. It’s the reason why I bought the album.
i listen to this song to freshen up my ears as a break from a jam session - so inspring!
absolutely gorgeous transfer. thank you for posting!
Frank and John Lennon were the only two other than family that I cried when I heard of them passing on.
Robin Williams’s death had me blue as hell for multiple days.
the absolute best
Fantastic! Thanks for posting this!
This is so calming.
Bellissimo...
Someday I will be dead, but this music will remain immortal.
really great sound quality ... thanks for the UL :)
This song seriously sucks the air out of me every time I listen to it. It is truly mind blowing.
Thanks you so much.
smooth easy listening great job !!!!
The music looks a LOT harder than it is.
Really wonderful rhythmic concept.
Musically intelligent for sure.
when u start to understand music Zappa could be an inspiration and a good reference to study
Great sound!
Es una joya este álbum!!!
thanks so much !!!
Bless!
Excellent at all time
gorgeous
Beautiful
very interesting music, I love this track !! I had a similar audio setup as the one pictured around the 30 sec mark. Pioneer SX 580/ Pioneer PL518 Turntable/ Criterion speakers.
nice set up!
Me trae malos recuerdos, pero aun amo y adoro esta maravilla Jazzistica que me pone la piel chinita
Benedetto sollievo
Hi Daniel, I know what you mean about the Odd Couple connection. I always liked the jazzy timeless feel of early 70's TV show themes... This song has it in spades
I have this on Vinyl. The year it was released..The Mids And Highs are so bright and clean compared to the remastered CD. I hate Dead Mids!!!!
He had to be in love when he wrote this.
They said... the sound of God
Mega.....
Top
5:39-6:02 woooow. WOW
Intemporel
This sounds great out of a crappy laptop speaker set
sounds great out of anything !
thats what fantastic music can do!
Zappa incontournable
I grew up with the PS-X5 !
Yes it was a severe injury. We went outside to see him taken away in the ambulance. The next audience were waiting outside. 2 more shows were scheduled for the next night. When she was pushed he had his back to the audience and pulled dow cables and a mic. It was a big dramatic crash. Many people laughed as they thought it was a stunt. No one moved until we were ordered to leave.
Music to be creative to...
brill.
Zappiencia: el estilo musical de Frank Zappa
Genius
Capolavoro
The aural definition of Cool.
Aynsley's finest hour
George is channeling Oscar Peterson on this one!
Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh.........
I wouldn't know about God but this is just about the purdiest toon that a human could devise or imagine.
Jolly good what? 😎💕✌️
