    What did you think of The Almighty as an ability for the final enemy of Bleach? Too overpowered? Or, with its weaknesses as they were presented, is it just right for a villain of Yhwach's stature? How did Uryu's antithesis play into his eventual defeat? Let me know!

    • @DFTNSHEXGRM

      I never had a problem with The Almighty and it being over powered, Kubo just needed to do a better job at setting up the foreshadowing of Uryū’s schrift and the whole blood clot arrow thing. Hopefully this will be better executed in the anime.

    • @QrowxClover

      Absolutely too overpowered. There's no real way to beat Yhwach without it being very obviously plot.
      Same with Gremmy. When you have a power that's so completely broken it isn't feasible to beat, it's a problem for the story. All Yhwach and Gremmy did was cheapen the story.
      As much as I love Bleach's broken abilities and power scaling, Yhwach and Gremmy specifically rub me the wrong way. Either one of them could solo any verse no matter how strong. It's so dumb that we have three characters that just rise THAT far above the power scaling of Bleach.
      ETA: It's also ridiculous how the plot arrow that literally deactivated Almighty wasn't enough. Jugram had to actively select a future in which Yhwach had died and disguise it as a dream, meaning that without the help of an ANTAGONIST, Yhwach would've won. And on top of that, the only reason this worked was because Yhwach didn't simply use Almighty to kill anyone in front of him because everyone dies eventually.

      I think the Almighty is cool but how can someone who can see and change the future be beaten in a way that makes sense?

      I felt like the Arrow canceling his powers was a bit of an A**pull, but there was literally no other way to stop him when he’s this OP.
      Kubo wrote himself into a corner with this one but I still enjoyed the All-or-nothing nature of Bleach’s final battle.

      I wonder what effect the Respira ability would have on Ywach. To me it came off as a possible counter in the sense he could be aged to a state to when he no longer had access to the Almighty. Although he can alter futures where he has "lost", coming into contact with the same abilty would just age him again anyway if he attempted to alter it. I have been thinking about Respira as a possible counter to everything in bleach haha. For example when Ichibe summoned the black from 100 nights which can certaily be aged past that point. Since the amount of darkness Ichibe gathered can be quantified (in some sense) then it has a limit, and against Respira all limits are reached . I had hoped Hollows would play a greater role near the end of the story and was certain after the Almighty was reveaeld Barragon/his ability would serve as a king v king cage match but alas.

    Something that went over most people's heads, is the thematic opposition the Almighty poses to Ichigo. In the chapter Side A:The Sand, Ichigo laments being powerless against the gears of fate and being crushed like *grains of sand*. Yhwach himself compares the Almighty to sand grains, and its power to change the future does indeed render Ichigo powerless to do anything against it, just like he always feared. But, with help from the Still Silver arrow, his "blade that shatters fate" was able to finish off Yhwach. The execution could definitely have been better, but I'm glad this thematic underline was there in the final battle.

    I really wished we could have gotten flashbacks to the original Gotei 13 fighting the Quincy so that the "blood war" actually felt like a "blood war." I would have loved to see scenes of the Quincy and Ywach barely surviving the onslaught of Soul Society and crawling away in anger and humiliation, spawning the conflict we see 9000 years later. Imo, TYBW kinda lacks in establishing an emotional motivation for the Quincies. I wished the sternritters had some sort of personal grudge they had been holding from the original fight b/w the soul society and the Wandenreich, or maybe even have it shown that those grudges against specific captains or Shinigami were passed down the Quincy generations. That way, statements like "Our 1000 year prayer has finally been answered" actually deliver on the emotional gut punch they are trying to convey.

    So back when I read it, I interpreted the ultimate weakness of The Almighty as being the hubris of the user. True it can show you a complete story, but that doesn't matter if you stop reading it 2 pages before the end because you think you know how it'll all turn out.
    In this case I think Yhwach stopped "reading" the story after he overcame death and broke Zangetsu. He thought he'd changed the end The Almighty had shown Haschwalth, but in his hubris he didn't realize he'd not even got there yet. Thus he didn't see Tsukishima or Ishida's actions coming because they occurred after he'd already put the book down.

  • @YouKnowIhadToDoItToEm

    I think the only true counter to The Almighty is Ichigo’s unnamed power which I’ll call “Destiny Negation” until a more suitable name is found. Yawach himself said Ichigo’s power was very similar to Orihime’s, and her power is the rejection of phenomena. I think Destiny Negation is the complete elimination of futures/fates/destinies that don’t align with Ichigo’s will, and in TYBW it is to defeat Yawach and save Soul Society (and by extension the World of the Living and Hueco Mundo; the opposite of Yawach’s goal). This explains why Yawach felt like he had to repeatedly break his Bankai (he was trying to circumvent Destiny Negation). This ability is dangerous to Yawach because although The Almighty gives him the ability to see “all futures”, I believe he realized that Destiny Negation nips The Almighty at the bud by eliminating the number of futures he has to chose from; specifically any futures which result in the accomplishment of his goals because they are diametrically opposed to Ichigo’s. It makes Ichigo’s eventual victory a foregone conclusion because there isn’t a future Yawach can choose that doesn’t ultimately result in his own defeat; Destiny Negation has already eliminated any future where Ichigo’s desire to defeat Yawach and save Soul Society isn’t realized. If true, Kubo has essentially canonized plot armor and made it an ability in the Bleach universe.

    Tsukishima's ability is just to insert his essence into timelines for someone's past but he cannot change anything the almighty is the ability to be able to change the future events and the antithesis being exactly what it states the antithesis of the almighty should be the one to change an event in the past meaning Uryu's ability should have been the ability to restore Ichigo's Zanpakuto and not Tsukishima.

    It's said that the Antithesis ability swaps whatever Ishida's affected with onto someone else, but how could this work with the future sight aspect of the Almighty? The future altering ability isn't affecting Ishida unless he affects him specifically. Ishida would also have to know that Yhwach affected his future, which comes back to seeing the future which is only possible through the Almighty.

      I have 2 theories.
      First, is that Yhwach couldn't overcome Zanka No Tachi because of the Almighty's limitations. He can only alter the future by way of inserting himself into that future. He says his power works the same we anyone alters the present. Meaning, his ability to alter is limited by what he can do at the moment of using it. Its literally an inversion of Book of the End. Only difference is that the more powers and abilties Yhwach absorbs, the more ways he can alter the future. And since he was facing an ability that is literally just a spammable fire Mugetsu (as explained to be Yamamoto's Bankai when he originally fought Yhwach), he simply couldn't create an alternate possibility in which he could win.
      Second theory is that Yamamoto used the Ise God Killing sword, but at great cost to his vitality which is why he aged so much in the 1,000 years since, while Unahana for example hasn't aged a day.

    A bit off-topic but if the soul king has the almighty then surely it saw itself being sealed and eventually having its body parts removed from him and therefore could have theoretically stopped all of those events from happening. However, I believe I read or saw somewhere that 1) the soul king willing allowed himself to be sealed and 2) the soul king was the world's solution for hollows but when he did kill hollows it caused imbalance and would lead to eventual armageddon. (Somebody please correct me if I'm mistaken). So my theory is the soul king knew he would be sealed and what the shinigami were going to do with splitting the realms to avoid the armageddon scenario and agreed with the action thinking that it would be the best scenario for everyone. However was also acting under good faith that the shinigami would not follow a future where they desecrated his body, which they eventually did. Hence why Gerard (the heart) Pernida (the right hand I think) fought against the shinigami because they represented the hatred the soul king had against the shinigami for desecrating his body but there is also Mimihagi who attempted to stop Yhwach from destroying everything since he still felt that this course was still the best course for everyone. Just my theory.

    I always felt like Aizen{s statement regarding Orihime having the power to defy even the greatest of gods. It{s not that Orihime herself can literally go toe to toe with a god like Yuha or such. But rather, and I think this was going to be the way Yuha was going to be kept reasonably a fightable character, is that her power can reverse space and time right? As in, even the greatest of gods need to exist within space and time to create or destroy something. To keep it short, Orihime's ability amplified by Ichigo and Aizen's tremendous reiatsu would do the job don't you think?
    My guess is Orihime's power does to space/time what Tsukishima does to memories. And this is also what Yuha does to future.
    And also, I think the reason why Kubo even whilst in a rush to finish the series decided to show us how Kasui gets rid of Yuha's remnants is because Kasui either reversed the existence of those remnants to when they weren't even in space/time or he inherited Ichigo's bankai ability to nulify hax and sht. The explanation of Antithesis being used to give Uryu the opportunity to shoot the silver arrow is an interesting one I never considered. I always thought it was just as an overlooked point to allow a means of defeating Yhwach. I see the argument for it, and Uryu's conversation with Haschwalth provides an opening for it to be true. I think the vagaries of what constitutes something that has "already happened" still makes things a bit iffy and is one of the times I most wish I could read the original language. There's also the question of why Yhwach couldn't have affected Ryuken instead, making it so he never had the arrow to give Uryu to begin with. Still, I like the Antithesis idea, and it does make Uryu's ability to shoot Yhwach make much more sense than no reason at all. I'd still love any kind of explanation on why Uryu was immune to the Auswalhen, though. There's no sensible reason within the plot that he is even still alive at that point in the story, at least as far as I can tell. Ichigo is special because of his unique lineage. In terms of an analogy, Yhwach said that futures are like grains of sands, so the hourglass that contains these sands has Ichigo as a foreign material like dust or dirt. So Yhwach trying to damage Ichigo's things through the Almighty is like trying to damages a doll and expecting the person it's based off of to get hurt. It hurt the Ichigo of the reality where Tsukishima wasn't controlling Ichigo's past. That being said, I feel that if Tsukishima undid his slash, Ichigo's sword might shatter.

    The way I always understood the almighty is Yhwach didn’t directly alter things in the future. Let me explain. So when Yhwach explained how he is able to see every possible future, he explains how they are each like a grain of sand. From what I remember he explains that he simply pick the one he likes best. Think about it, if he can literally alter the future to be exactly how he wants, there’s no real reason to see every future. So when I Hugo’s bankai breaks initially, he simply looked at every future and chose the one where he broke it. Which in turn makes that the path the present takes. Which makes sense when later, he wanted to break ichigo’s bankai again, but instead he just cracks it. Because there was no future in which he broke said bankai. This makes more sense when you understand that he lost in the past in some way. We never got to see exactly how it happened. We just know he lost. If his ability literally warped reality to whatever he wanted, he would basically never lose. But that’s not what happens. Possibly, when he lost to yama in the past, there wasn’t a future he could essentially hop to in which he won against him. So I like to think of the almighty as a low level reality warp. He does get to choose the future he wants, but only if it’s in the realm of possibility. There’s an infinite number of futures, but he has to have the power to make a favorable future be obtained. It also makes sense when he was fighting ichigo. Yhwach says that ichigo was changing the future. So basically yhwach had to keep hoping futures because ichigo was actively changing the outcome of the future yhwach had picked. When yhwach revived himself, he simply chose the future in which he didn’t die. But this is just the way I understood the power working. I haven’t read those chapters in years though

    I think first Shiba created final getsuga tenshou to become some sort of deity to save Reio from that fate. Or could it be another technique hm. Anyways, isnt Ichigo like poisonus to Yhwach? his powers werent lost when his mother died because soul reaper powers were coming from hollow Zangetsu. And in final arc he solidifies all of his powers which if you ask me is pretty wicked.

    i always interpreted it as, the stillsilver arrow is the only thing that deactivates the almighty. so the only thing that the almighty cannot see is the stillsilver arrow.

  • @joenandez5880
    @joenandez5880 Рік тому

    There's also the possibility that he simply choose to get hit by the arrow because the almighty showed him in most futures getting hit and then blocking ichigoes sword leading to his victory after his power returns shortly after. Or because book of the end was activated he knew the arrow would hit but because he had broken ichigo's sword assumed that future couldn't happen and let it play through. You could also assume that there is a very small time frame before and after the arrow hits where the almighty cannot see anything due to it being shut off by the arrow assuming iryu used his antithesis to hide it before it hit so the aftermath of it hitting is blanked out and he just sees what would happen once he gets his powers back which doesn't happen because ichigo kills him with the sword that to him he shouldn't have.

    Just one question. The way they talk about Yhwach, they made it sound like he was at full power 1000 years ago and it took the entire 1000 years to regain it.
    A) did he have the Almighty back then?
    B) if he did, how did he lose?

    • @purerage7963
      @purerage7963 2 роки тому +1

      He did have The Almighty, as he said he regained it after 1000 years. That definitely raises huge questions about how Yamamoto defeated him, though, especially when Zanka no Tachi was weaker back then (or at least lacked its OP abilities). There's nothing to indicate that The Almighty was weaker in a similar way in their first battle, plus Ichibe never contributed as implied by his battle with Yhwach.

      If he isn't already under Kyouka Suigetsu then its possible he could use Book of the End on him to change something that makes him win. If he's already under hypnosis then he could try and act as support by stabbing an ally and changing something in their past that allows them defeat Aizen like he did with Ichigo and YHWACH

    Confession: I haven’t read the TYBW and am looking in as an outsider (I don’t mind since I have been spoiled on A LOT already), but I have a question about this power. Does it allow Yhwach to change the future in literally ANY way he wants, or would it have to be in a way that is possible within the range of his existing capabilities? For example, if Kon had this power and was fighting Kenpachi, would he be able to go into the future and win the fight, or would he lose since he has no strength of his own to be able to harm him at all?

    • @thegosthofvilgax
      @thegosthofvilgax 2 роки тому

      If you were to take ONLY the ocular abilities of The Almighty and nothing else then it would be a draw. As Kon on his own won't be able to beat, as although you can alter the future and rewrite his own death, he can't self augment his power out of nowhere in the case of someone like Gremmy can. The Almighty in conjunction with Ywachs alright potent abilities as the Soul Kings son is what makes it a deadly combo

    Goddamn it people always call it the Deus Ex Arrow because of how it defeats Yhwach but after hearing the explanation about Uryuu's Schrift it just seems so obvious. Haschwalt even goes out of his way to say that Uryuus antithesis is a counter to Almighty.

    Still not as op as Kyōka Suigetsu, as we know Aizen did counter Yhwach twice using Kyōka Suigetsu. Not a fan of the Almighty, I think it's a bit overly complicated and boring. A simple ability like Aizen's or Urahara's was awesome because it was so simple and ridiculously overpowered and I think Bleach did very well with low-level sounding powers being way too op.

      Yeah, I've had this same issue with Bleach. I was entertained but also felt done with it. During my re-look at Bleach I keep finding myself saying "damn, Kubo might almost be a genius..." It's strange but it's difficult to get my friends or others to also look back into it because the first time around is the most important usually, especially with anime for some reason.

    • @purerage7963
      @purerage7963 2 роки тому +3

      @@wizcaster77 Imo Kubo is great at themes and symbolism (just look at how he uses the Espada to represent 10 aspects of death), but sometimes sucks at executing plot threads and elements on a technical level (e.g. inconsistencies, dropped plotlines, deus ex machina, and plot armour). Rereading the manga, I loved the themes and symbolism more as they became clearer with time and aged incredibly, while the technical issues stood out more as well. I suppose you can call it a...balance :).
      Still, it's definitely worth appreciating how he created such an insanely large cast of characters and managed to make as many of them work as possible. It's one hell of a task and he definitely deserves credit for reaching for the stars.
