The Zero Division were finally introduced in Bleach's final arc, but when the time came for them to fight, they fell short. We know very little about their zanpakuto - so in this video, I want to take a look at what we do know from the evidence in the manga, as well as speculate on what some of their powers could be.

Which member of the Zero Division would you have liked to see use their zanpakuto the most? And do you think their fight will be extended in the TYBW anime? Let me know!
Senjumaru and hikifune. Imagine what they can do with their shikai and bankai respectively given their very unique abilities
Oetsu. We didn't even see him use his Zanpakuto and he casually one shot not one, but FOUR characters stronger than Yamamoto. He's super OP at less than 10% power so imagine what his Bankai is like.
Oetsu and his realistic take on fighting and going for the fast kill. Senjumaru is interesting too given she displayed a degree of shock and rebellious anger upon learning the truth about the Spirit King in cfyow's opening.
They better extend the Zero division fights.. they have the opportunity to and Kubo has confirmed there will be additional content added into the anime. The problem is, you don’t want to reveal all of the Elite Sternritter’s bag of tricks on the Zero Division.. from a writing standpoint, they need to save that reveal for the final battles against the Captains. I’m sure they will figure out a happy medium here
They should made weaponsmith actually be able use all zanpaktou like unlimited blade works and their ability lol
Kirinjis zanpakutou has a sailors theme, the manipulation of water, the light representing the lighthouse guiding lost sailors to safety. And obviously the paddle shikai. I wonder if Kubo will ever expand on it.
More specifically, he guides lost souls through a river of blood. At least that's my opinion on his blade theme.

Kubo never expand on anything which is the main reason why Bleach isn't a god tier manga

The one thing I don't like about the Bleach Fandom is they don't give Oetsu his flowers. Technically he Soloed the Royal Gaurd of Ywach with just a Overly sharp sword. Like you can say what you want but they literally died, and got brought back.
I say this all the time. He killed all of them on his own and it took Ywach bringing them back by sacrificing the remaining stern Ritter for them to get a chance to shine. Oetsu was my fav member of the royal guard
Agreed. Where shikai couldn't hurt normal Sternritters using basic blut vene, Oetsu chopped down his royal guard with a unreleased zanpaktou. A base zanpaktou that were killed had been 2 parts of the Soul King. That's pretty amazing.
That sword can literally cut through basically everything, oetsu is the goat but the sword itself did most of the job, still oetsu needed the speed and ability to read and control that sword and thos sternritters so yeah he is underrated.

its not the feats were bummed about but the execution. We know hes strong but thight shoulnt have been off screened.
I actually think that Oetsu’s unique ability is to make Zanpakuto at will. The ceremonial Zanpakuto of the Nobles all have a unique ability pertaining to other Zanpakuto but none has the power to create them. I think that power lies with Oetsu.
And on top of that idea, I think the Noble family Zanpakuto were for one of two purposes: To replicate portions of the powers of the Soul King or to stand as a defense against the Soul King, obviously both of these thing being taken to a degree of abstraction.
I think that's an interesting take on this to consider. There seem to be some characters with unique Zanpakuto like the issei sword (definitely botched the spelling) or that one from the execution grounds (can't remember the name) so it's possible to do this and for all I know, maybe The Soul King gives them abilities based around their assignments so him getting to use any Zanpakuto falls under that.
Hmmm that’s a interesting idea but what about this one? Personally I believe zans are mini hell gates. To me they represent a prison cell of ones own devising. What better way to contain someone and ship them off to hell than something designed to mimic and contain the entierety of ones spiritual pressure that they’ve meticulously cultivated throughout hundreds if not thousands of years day in and day out. Shinigami build their own prisons to be shipped off to hell in if they grow too powerful. I don’t doubt that Oetsu found a way to modify hell gates and summon them on the small scale. After all every zan in existence is programmed to dredge up senkaimon free of charge by simply stabbing the air and to me that signifies that if it can manifest a portal of one kind then it’ll be just as easy for it to open one of a different variety

@@mra3076 thanks XD my friend and I have been mulling it over for awhile now and logically makes the most sense to both of us. That’s why zans can even go “true release” which is basically what aizen currently is/ ichigo became when he went mugetsu. You fuse with your zan and exist as a singular entity, just ichigo and Aizen found means of activating it early as I think all zans inevitably do the same thing as a forced release on death and if all zans are a part of a major hell gate then technically you yourself would become hells property the second you picked one up and went shikai. Only reason ichigo didn’t die is because of his soul king hax lol same thing as aizen but in aizens case I think he’s a direct descendent of the soul king. The similarities in appearance are startling as well as aizens butterfly mode looked identical to how the soul king naturally looked
I really like Sayafushi, I don't know if Kubo confirmed it but it seems to be heavily inspired by the Japanese legend of the swordsmiths, Masamune and Muramasa (who lived in different time periods but this legend likes to make then Master and Discipline).
In the legend Muramasa challenged his master, Masamune to a competition to see who could forge a finer sword. Masamune accepted and they both spent all their time and effort forging a sword.
On the day of the competition they reveled their products. To test to see which was better the placed the swords in a stream, with the cutting edges facing towards upstream.
Muramasa's sword cut through everything that came into contact with the blade, fish swimming down the stream, dead leaves floating past it, and in some interpretations even the water and air got cut by the blade (leaving it dry).
Masamune's sword, on the other hand didn't cut anything when placed in the water, dead leaves floated down the stream into his blade and were repelled, fish swam up to it but they didn't get cut, the water and air flowed like normal. And once he pulled the sword up, he wiped it dry, and sheathed it.
After seeing this Muramasa boasted that he had won, saying his master's sword couldn't cut anything. However, a monk who was watching came up to both, and praised both of their skills.
But said that while Muramasa's sword was indeed a fine sword with a sharp blade, it was bloodthirsty, it cuts with no regard to the innocence and virtue of what is on the other side of the blade.
On the other hand, Masamune's blade was refined and calm, it didn't needlessly cut anything the wielder did not wish to be cut. And he declared that Masamune had forged the finer sword.
That's BS. Muramasa totally won. Swords are supposed to cot things when they hit them
@@insertedgynamehere Well the story is more of a metaphor.
The reason Muramasa lost is because like the monk said, the sword cut everything indiscriminately regardless of whether or not Muramasa intended or wished for it to be cut. The sword was unruly, bloodthirsty, and disobedient. (Probably why Muramasa was the name they used for main villian of the Zanpakuto Rebellion Arc)
Masamune's sword didn't cut anything, because Masamune nor his sword deemed anything in the stream worth cutting. It was refined, discerning, and in-sync with it's wielder.
You could say that Muramasa forged a sharper blade, but he failed to forge a finer sword.
Bringing back the parallels with Oetsu and Sayafushi, you could say that a sword that cuts whatever it wants against the master's wishes, "Fails to meet the basic definition of a sword" (in Oetsu's words)

That is not based at least for me, sayafushi is just stereotypical interm of power in japanese sword myth
The way I see it with Nimaiya is that because he's a blacksmith first, shinigami second, all the Zanpakutō are essentially the tools of his forge/workshop, certain tools have more use and are used more often than others but they all serve their purpose, so all in all, he has a tool for each job, and the collection of all his tools defines his workshop. From my perspective, his workshop and collection of tools is his inner Zanpakutō spirit and it's represented by multiple spirits because he needs multiple tools to achieve his goal and carry out his work. Blacksmiths are well known for making extra tooling for certain jobs when needed, so his ability to make more Zanpakutō spirits represents the versatility needed to be a blacksmith very well.
So in summary, I believe he has no one single Zanpakutō, but rather, all his Zanpakutō reflect the versatility of a blacksmith to create tools for the job at hand which essentially defines who Nimaiya is. And just like how he has a tool for one job, he has an OP blade to deal with enemies, another to start/fire-up his forge, and so forth
What if his Zanpakuto simply has no true form because it can be reforged to handle any situation? So too would the spirit itself change
Honestly I just assumed that they just got so powerful they didn't need their Zanpakutos like Senjumaru's threads do more that most sword abilities, such as being able to be used as a potent defense and offense if someone takes their eyes off her.
She has an oversized needle that she uses as a weapon, I always assumed that was her Zanpakuto and the tapestries she makes, or the clothes she made for Sternritter W, were created by her Shikai.
She was able to take off the clothes of a sternitters and thread her own clothes unto said sternitter without any of the elite guard noticing. Them keeping their eyes on her isn't the issue. I'd say the overwhelming haxs is the issue when it comes to her fighting the elite guard.
Ichibei's is representative of his primordial history and ability to twist reality as he sees fit. Be it eliminating an opponent's abilities or rewriting the official history of the war via propaganda, stating that the Soul King was successfully protected while the war was an innocently defensive one.
Twisting the official narrative isn't hard. We do it in the real world all the time. Imagine if the one source of information anyone could access about major events came from the news outlets. That's what they did with the TYBW

I had so much hope for Kirinji then ole boy pulled out the same stick Catholic teachers use. He was fast enough to have Soi-Fon shook and taught Unohana healing but he was just a lifeguard 😢

Kirinji said he trained Unohana in healing Kido. So I think that his water manipulation and summoning is an unorthodox kido spell. Maybe his hot springs are just a form of kido. His fighting style might be like Hachi's, he has a Zanpakuto but uses mostly Kido instead
What if his springs are a manifestation of his Zanpakuto
The fact they have an Ōken in their bodies may also contribute heavily to their spiritual pressures and natural abilities. Would have been interesting to see more use of spells from them as well.
I think Senjumaru's zanpakto ability involves warping reality using her stitching, sort of like using Kannonbiraki Benihime Aratame mixed with the illusionary ability of Kyuoka Suigetsu. I think the only way to dispell the reality is to cut the cloth it's made of but no ordinary slash can cut it.
I still think Kirinji's Zanpakto is water themed, just not in an obvious way. The glitter reminded me of sun reflecting off the ocean's surface.
I like to think his hot springs are his Zanpakuto
I actually think the requirement of having contributed to Soul Society instead of being promoted to the Zero div. regarding power was... weird. If the intention is to protect the Soul King, you would expect Power to be superior to Relevance, and indeed, at the end, characters like Ichigo, Kenpachi, Aizen, were stronger than the Zero div. (at least got the results).
I´m just saying that the members that ended in the Zero div. seem to be powerful by coincidence more than purpose. Like the King decided to be surrounded by "the coolest gang" more than the "toughest bodyguards".

The thing is only the most prodigious or brilliant individuals can create concepts. And by making them immortal, they can train for eternity. And, they are pretty scary in terms of power. Kirinji made Soi-Fon's speed look like a joke and his water is deadly enough to easily kill Fullbring Bankai Ichigo. Shutara was able to assassinate someone with a physical attack (literally making clothes on his person) and the target's power is that he can't be touched. And obviously Oetsu could casually one-shot all of them so instantaneously that Lille couldn't even use his X-Axis to avoid the attack, Pernida couldn't use his nerves, and Gerard's Miracle couldn't activate. Meaning he eclipses the likes of Shunsui, EOS Bankai Byakuya And Unleashed Kenpachi (with eyepatch at least)
The problem is, they're opponents in the Schutzstaffel are broken AF, and they're together unlike when the Gotei fought them. Imagine having to deal with Pernida's nerves, while dodging Lille's shots, while Askin tries to poison you, while Gerard attacks with no regard to his safety because if he dies then he'll just become immensely more powerful. And that's not even mentioning Uryu and Haschwalth.
The only anomaly is Kirio but we do have an accolade with her where she explains that her spirit energy is in a completely different dimension than Renji's and Fullbring Ichigo's. Which is why her feeding them her food (infused with her spirit energy) was such a big deal. It's likely the biggest reason they all got so much stronger. Spirit power wise I mean. She literally gave them all a class upgrade simply be feeding them some of her power.
@@corruptangel6793 exactly they pretty much embody the concepts which bleach fights are based on.from a neutral pov they have the power to control the reality of bleach.i hope the anime shows the difficulties yhwach and company had to face in order to defeat squad zero
It makes sense tho. The Gotei 13 is already defending the Seireitei, and you'd rather have the best fighters in the Gotei being deployed and useful rather than immobilized in the Palace
I agree that the most mysterious member is Senjumaru Shutara. The idea that her zanpakuto is a needle fits the same theme as the spoon and, perhaps, the paddle, but I had another thought about her. What if her zanpakuto takes the form of her arms? I imagine her as a shinigami born with enormous reiatsu - enough to become a Captain - but no arms! Kubo has shown us a blind Captain, and a deaf Lieutenant, so...

If Ichibei is any indication, there is a likelihood that a majority of the Zanpakuto of Squad Zero have a correlation with their titles and what inventions they created (Tanjiro being the exception). For instance, Hikifune's Zanpakuto could allow her to take in foreign reiatsu/reishi and use it to empower herself or others, the basic of Gikon. While Senjumaru was in Squad Zero for creating the Shihakusho (according to the Light Novel), it wouldn't surprise me if the Gigai was another invention, given the uniform appearance of the Soul King Guards with her. Or it could be both, and her Zanpakuto allows her to fabricate what she chooses. The Soul King Guards could be some creation of her Zanpakuto in some form, like the "living tapestry".

As for Nimaiya, given he is the man who created the Asauchi in the first place, as you said, his Zanpakuto could allow him to "forge" any weapon and ability he chooses. If the Asauchi can "become any Zanpakuto" as blank slates, Nimaiya can actively choose what it is "forged" into per release.
I say all this because, when you look at Urahara, a certain invention of his reminds me quite a bit of how his Bankai works. Namely, the technique he developed to hide Hogyoku in Rukia's soul, and Aizen later used it to extract it, an invention that "restructures" the soul to store objects in it, much like his Bankai.
I think the most interesting twist on it that i can come up with is that the actual powers of the zero divisions zanpakutos arent all that special, but they on top of it also have a special understanding of reiatsu that they use in conjunction with their zanpakuto power. Like Oetsu has a zanpakuto with metal as its core component and this enables him to be the smith to actually know the metal and work it properly so it becomes something of its own. His special reiatsu ability could be to basically remove the identity of something to make room for something else. Like any sword has an identity of "piece of metal made by skills with this person to do something" but Oetsus skill is to basically remove that identity and make it a vessel for the spirits. And any spirit can get into a sword given if it has been "hollowed out" by Oetsu. Which is the reason there are so many spirits around and he has such a good connection with them. He can give them purpose and meaning and a partner for life.
I like the idea of Tenjiro having a light based zanpakuto and his reiatsu is basically unnaturally adaptive and changeable. So his reiatsu can change properties from "healing" to "damaging" to "draining" and so on. His light ability from his zanpakuto enables him to embue translucent things like the water of his hotspring with his reiatsu and give it the properties. So he controls the water through his reiatsu and only activates his zanpakuto for an attempted direct attack.
Kirios zanpakuto could be plant based and her reiatsu skill is the ingesting of foreign reiatsu and the ability to embue food with that her reiatsu. She acts like a blood donor that everyone is receptive to. Maybe her zanpakuto is used to grow some of the ingredients she uses for her food thing in order to enhance its power.
Senjumaru should have a creation ability of some sort. Like a zanpakuto that creates fabric with varying properties at varying speeds. Her normal reiatsu skill could be something like being able to put reiatsu into things she designed and give them certain powers and properties. This could be the reason she can use those mechanical arms as she is controlling those via reiatsu. Her zanpakuto ability could be like a curse one. The ability to spawn spikes inside or to buff someone wearing her fabric.
Ofc those are just random ideas but it would fit to the twist that Kubo seems to have intended. None of their abilities are outstanding on their own merit but they are special somehow by combining their zanpakuto power with a creation of theirs or rather an ability they created themselves. But at the same time, their power cant be understated enough that the other captains would just walk through them. And i feel like i at least tried to hit that balance quite nicely here.
I love the fact that we use to give Kubo flack for letting the characters explain their abilities to other characters, even the enemy, and now at the end of the series he didn't do that and now we are left in the dark on certain abilities. Makes you realize he knew what he was doing all along. The characters were actually explaining their abilities to US. Just because they lose after doesn't mean they were dumb for talking about it.
No he could have always had a narrator explain the abilities or do it in guides. Also there is a part in the thousand year blood war arc where a captain explains his bankai and the sternritter counters it based on the info and beats him.

@@wingsof5stack390 Kubo already said that he was rushed to finish bleach so the narrations wouldn't work because he would be using pages that are better suited for the story itself. My comment was just to explain that even though the characters explain their abilities...THAT WAS MEAN FOR US....detrimental or not it was meant for the reader.
If you draw an ability being used well you shouldn't need a Speedwagon-esk play by play explanation of said ability. It should really be clear as to what it can and is doing just by it being used.
Needing someone to state what the powers do is a sign of a failure in the writing process.
My headcannon is that since names and words have so much power in that world explaining you abilities actually makes them stronger

It makes perfect sense for Kirinji's zanpakuto to have nothing to do with his hot spring water. He created it, why couldn't he control it at will?

Kirinji’s should definitely be light based. It’s name is literally Gold Light. This might be a reach but, in Buddhist scripture (which we know kubo used some Buddhist themes) there exists a “golden light sutra” which was used in Korea, China, and Japan as a protection sutra. This is also notable as the official release for Kinpika is something related to like “shine from the heavens” if I remember correctly. Additionally, the Golden Light Sutra is not just for protection but also was said to be used by the Buddha to heal people. Additionally, the Golden Light sutra is supposed to call upon the Four Heavenly Kings, which each govern a cardinal direction, a nice coincidence to the Zero division’s captains (besides Ichibe) each being the general of a cardinal direction. This I think would be fitting as Kirinji is the first fighter of the Zero Division, the “protector” who uses his Bankai to signal that the seiretei needs protection, he’s also a healer, and it would fit nicely with the “honorable Yankee” aesthetic.

@@boxiannn So NONE of those Bankai was shown throughout the manga except their captain/leader? That’s disappointing, I want to know what the first Zonpakto creator’s true form/bankai was like. That’s like, the *ultimate* bankai (aside from Ichigo).
Also, I theorized that the weaver woman’s bankai or zonpakto has the ability to weave things into existence. Similar to the guy who kenpachi fought, except she actually has to make it. 🤔 But this is just speculation. Without a manga source I don’t know how viable it is. 😂

I think Kirinji's paddle is more like the one used to mix hot water when taking a bath in a hot spring.
I feel like rather than knowing what each zanpakuto do, it will be better to view it on how it fits a certain theme/concept. In Kirinji's case, it's hot spring. He manipulates blue (cold) and red (hot) water, uses a paddle to "mix" it, with release command "glistens", like how a body glistens after a good scrubbing in a bath (hehe boii). His palace is basically an onsen town and his nickname I think is hot spring demon. Throw in some onsen egg and you're good.
As for others, Ichibei's theme is probably calligraphy/ink painting, Kirio and Oetsu probably food/reishi/reiatsu and blacksmith (too obvious, I know)
Senjumaru is a bit more interesting for me. I really like "spider" being her theme/concept and her design reminds me of Hashirama's 1000-armed statue in Naruto. It also somehow reminds me of a story in buddhism mythology (I think) about a man who is thrown into hell and a string is dangled for him to climb out from hell, only to have it cut once he almost reach the top.

Kirinji's zanpaktou might be a light speed based zanpaktou. Considering when he first appeared it was his speed that was emphasised when he blitzed soi feng

my theory is that the anomalous abilities that the zero division use, are their sealed zanpakuto. the asauchi are meant to take on a form that best suits the user, so to me, it makes sense that someone who created a defining aspect of the soul society, would have zanpakuto that embodies their contribution. ichibei's zanpakuto IS the changing of names, kirinji's IS the healing waters, hikifune's is the food she cooks, senjumaru's is the cloth she uses, and ouetsu's zanpakuto is possibly his forge. very peculiarly, none of the zero division seems to use zanpakuto that are sword-shaped(unless you count sayafuchi, which i don't think is ouetsu's actual zanpakuto anyway), which implies that they have evolved beyond the idea of weapons and more in line with tools. it makes sense to me that characters that are in that realm of power, would have zanpakuto that were more conceptual than literal
Maybe oetsu’s zanpakto is the giant Hammer he uses to make zanpakto and kirinjis ability might be that his weapon becomes more powerfull when it absorbs light from the sun or just light in general

Yeah definitely - I mean I think most of the Zero Division deserve to be there, but you're right in that Mayuri and Urahara for example probably do too.
Uh... one of them literally created the very weapons they fight with.

I wonder if Kubo's health problems and stress level was turned up to 11 around the time he got to writing this section of the story, and maybe he felt pressured to just breeze through it so as to set up the final stretch of the arc sooner rather than later. Another banger video. I actually wanted an in-depth video on oetsu and his personal zanpakutou, other people have also speculated mera to be his personal zanpakutou. I agree with that and I do think if it is, it could probably be even more powerful than Ryujin Jaaka or at the very least give it a good run for it’s money as the most powerful fire type
It was stated multiple times the Ryūjin Jakkā is the most powerful Zanpakuto, not fire type, but period. And I think that was probably true. Old Man Yama was the Head Captain for the entirety of the Gotei’s existence and while Oetsu creates the swords, he doesn’t determine how strong they are individually. I’d imagine that Mera is strong but nowhere near as apocalyptic as Ryūjin Jakkā could be. Even taking his ace in the hole, slicing cleanly through anything(Sayafushi) and removing something from existence entirely (Zanka no Tachi) are completely different feats.
@@seanholley1025 that may be true but I wouldn’t put it past Kubo to suddenly retcon that given just who Oetsu is.
I think it should be noted that Senjumaru used to be head of the 12th division as well, just like Kirio. I remember Senjumaru scolding Mayuri about how security has been very lax since she left.
I think Oetsu's true Zanpakuto might be his forging hammer, and Mera is the spirit of it.
Or his Shikai and Bankai are a literal forge
I like your suggestions for Hikifune's shikai and Bankai. That ramen bowl idea is great, it's very theatrical and ostentatious kinda like Shinsui's powerset.

I do think that the zero division fight was very underwhelming and I hope the amime enhances it. But what I felt was more underwhelming was the soul king himself. It was just some random guy in a crystal that did absolutely nothing. Genryusai was such an amazing character as the top of the gotie 13 that I was expecting even better for the soul king.

I didn’t have an issue with the soul king. Given Aizen’s outrage at “that thing” lead me to believe the Soul King would be something not too different from what we got. Not everything needs to be some crazy powerful old shinigami. It makes sense that the ruler of this whole world would be some dude stuck in a crystal.. it explains why Aizen hated its existence and wanted to overthrow it believing he could be a more fitting ruler.

It wasn't ichigo great grandfather since the shiba ancestor was refused the option of becoming the soul king and they used mr god like being the monk claimed he went willing into the crystal and most of the soul king stuff happened after that like the chopping him up. cutting out his brain, heart, limbs, you know basically everything that make a person a person and most of them became beings and characters in there own right
most of said parts were sterritters being brain (which all but brain was brought up in the manga) and well we were told before this that the heart is the source of power and the Soul King's heart was fighting the zero division as was one of his arms
though indirectly was his grandfather due to yhwach
as for him it is mentioned that his power was sealed up by the Shinigami during the final arc and how they are his only enemy(and yhwach even questions the left arm aka the only part of the soul king that was not on the side of death to the soul king or neutral why it was helping the Shinigami )

Oetsu should have his own Zanpakuto. But I think it should remain nameless. In its shikai(its always in shikai) he can simply say another Zanpakuto's name and it has the same properties as thst zanpakuto in shikai. However, his Bankai would be the ability to fuse 2 or more zanpakuto abilities into his own Zanpakuto. For example he could use a combination or Zabimaru with the full gorilla arm and everything but add in Zangetsu to be a slim sword with reatsu covering his body and increasing his speed, dexterity, etc
I thought it would be cool if Kirinji's zanpakutou was microwave light. That heats up water really well
I'm thinking maybe Ichibe gave their contributions an official name, thus externalizing it as an ability or something like that. As for Ichibe himself, my guess is that he knew the Soul King when he was still conscious, given his age. It'd be neat to see a flashback of him lamenting what was done to him and vowing to protect him at all costs or something.
I kind of imagine oetsu's zanpakto being like a giant hammer that just creates waves of molten metal he can chape into whatever he wants whenever it strikes something.
Maybe Oetsu reforged their Zampakuto take a form more suitable for their particular specialization when he or they joined the Zero squad.
Oetsu absolutely can create living, breathing Zanpakuto. He literally says that's the case. He's able to shape and mold the asauchi to such an extent that he can actualize different zanpakuto that exist not just as 'swords'.
I have a theory that tenjiros water ability might be magic
because if we remember ganju, he uses elemental magic mainly earth and sand magic
so it's possible that others in the bleach universe can use elemental magic as well
and maybe it could even be related to your soul/attributes
like ganju being a hard head like stone but being able to seemingly slip around and get everywhere like sand
and tenjiro is a hot headed guy as when we first see him he is snapping at unohana calling her weak and essentially worthless (which is practically a death sentence) and it would fit well with boiling water type magic as I can sort of imagine him having a boiling kettle like temper
Water can be created as long as there are H20s in the air, as the Toshiro hitsugaya claimed that’s the ability of his Bankai.
For Oh Etsu I’ve always liked to think it’s like Sakuna’s domain from JJK as in the ability to cut any inanimate object and anything with SP, since it’s stated his Zanpakuto is the sharpest it fits really well.
I think u are right in that they gain an additional power when joining the zero division that has to do with the accomplishment that gets them into the ranks. As for Oetsu’s Zan I think its his hammer itself that he uses to create other Zanpakutos and power bestowed to him for joining the Zero division is the ability to create costume Zan sprites.
I like the idea that Shutara invented the default clothes that appear on vertain situations. Like, when ichigo first unlocked his powers he was already wearing the black unform because Shutara made it the "default look" of all soul reapers.
I think that Oetsu’s Zanpakuto would be the crazy long handle hammer since he is a blacksmith. Also i would think that it has little combat ability which is why he uses other swords in battle.

I have always wondered if Senjumaru was hollow. A natural arrancar but that is more of just an insane fan theory after all she is confirmed to have designed the shinigami uniform. But we still have to remember a lot of the zero devision are from a time the 13 gotie weren't even established yet so some of them might not even be shinigami.
Ichibes is the one we know so I'm not going to talk about it
Oetsu I don't actually think he has one not a singular one I think all the women we see in his Palace are his zanpakutos And he has many all with a different ability that he can choose for an given situation so if he fights someone with fire powers he has a water based zanpokto and this would also set him apart from other soul reapers
Tenjiros I do think is light based and water based as I think the light from his zanpakuto is a representation of the moons light that controls the tides and in turn controls water
Kirios is most definitely the spoon but it's ability is in my opinion something different from food and I think it's got more to do with her actual appearance or the fact she has quite a dramatic body change and I think she can do this to things with her zanpakuto for example changing the size or shape of foods, the spoon itself or an enemys weapon I do want to say I think it would be limited to either a area around her or whatever she is touching because if not altering sizes and shapes with no limits is a massive power
Senjumarus is hard one to place since I like to think the weird powers they all have are in some way connected to there zanpakuto like ichibes so I actually do think sawing is her zanpakuto power in some way maybe with that little needle we see being the zanpakuto its self and maybe her power is similar to the visionarys with whatever she saws being real for a moment or until broken like the fake fight with Gérard

Ichibei has a brush, Oetsu maybe the hammer, Kirinji has paddle, Hikifune the spoon, Senjumaru the needle. All of their zanpakuto should be related to their overall abilities presumably in similar manner to Ichibei.
im wondering if maybe this arc hints at souls having sort of "innate" abilities, like maybe oetsu's ability is to split his inner soul to make blank swords, which would explain how he knows all of their locations because they are intentionally meant to be imprinted. ichibei being naming and his brush is an early concept of imprinting souls. hikifune you explained pretty well. finally senjumaru's being weaving spirit energy to be used but primarily for her as fabric. maybe their contributions were understanding how to externalize their abilities to improve the lives of many? maybe all their weapons (except oetsu) are just soul imprinted objects: brush, spoon, needle (or sewing set to explain her different tools)
I believe the "oar" that we see is one of the paddles used to stir the water in hot springs to cool them down.

The Zero division was a huge disappointent
The zero division kinda remind me of the Elite four from Pokemon Omega Ruby/Sapphire, they all have their own theme to them. I also hope when the anime comes out for tybw arc that they go into more detail and really show off their powers
I had a similar thought on Hikifune's Bankai (love the shikai idea), but a little more sly and Gift Ball Deluxe-ish. A massive, ghostly hotpot bowl that is so large you can't tell what it is from within (like a frog in the bottom of a pot), that then allows her to "cook" the reiatsu that is within the pot; slowly damaging and sapping the strength of enemies, and healing and refreshing allies. And, like a frog in a pot of slowly heating water, by the time you notice what's happening, its too late to do anything about it.
In my head, it replaces the Cage of Life set-piece. With her trapping the SS in her cook pot. Kirinji then filling it with water (maybe with an Onsen themed Bankai) and Nimaiya spicing it with blood. Could have been a whole big set-piece team battle, that has the SS slowly realizing how trapped they are. Each one that drops passes most, but not all, of their power back to Yhwach. Which tips Yhwach off to how the Bankai works. Allowing him to actually do a Quincy thing (for once) and crush the whole stage with Reishi Subjugation; tearing apart the cookpot and stripping the fat off of Hikifune until she collapses. He then uses Auswahlen to revive the SS. That way, the Zeros actually win their fights, but are then crushed by the Big Bad; maintaining their air of strength, then reinforcing it with each subsequent SS fight. And giving Yhwach that Aizen-esque air of insurmountable power.
Oetsu I think his ability or the zanpokto that’s shown could possibly be unbound/uncontracted zanpokto and that’s why we’re able to see them I believe this because of the muramasa ark when he called their names they become unbound from their soul reaper

The BBW/Milf everything you said sounds good to me except her bankai. I wouldn't see bowl I her releasing this giant sphere around her and if you step inside it takes your energy.
The blacksmith that sword would just be something he likes to use. But his bankai I would love if he did some land of the dead stuff. Like every sword that ever was a failure or broken he can summon them to attack people.
The Doll like you said General Grevise. But her bankai I see it as defense where as she can give her friends clothes that add to your defense and speed.
I like to to think that at some point in history, oetsu discovered a way to harness/communicate with not only his zanpakuto spirit, but with any spirit and they took notice and recognized his ability and gave him their loyalty

Personally seeing the Royal guard getting defeated then each member join for one of the major fights along with Ichigo, Uryu, and leader of Zero Division vs Yhwach would have been amazing
My hypothesis is that every single one of them have reached a conection with their zanpakto so big that they can use their powers without needing to release the blade.
You can guess what are the powers of Kirinji and Shutara's Zanpakto.
In Oetsu's case I would think his power would be give form to Zanpakto's spirits. Hikifune's case would probably the capacity of sharing reatsu with others.
We could say Ichibe would be an exception given his deep conection with names. It could also be that he released right away because he recognized Ywach threath.
Two ideas, I'd like to think the zanpakuto guy (not naming names since I'm at work) was intended to pull out his real zanpakuto after the lost the all around fight (I think the initial defeat was actually meant to be the 0 division splitting off to fight each royal guard individually and lose that way) but since that'd take way too long in shonnen jumps eyes, they decides to cut it early. I'd like to think that spring guys zanpakuto is the manipulation of temperature itself (which is insanely broken once you think about it) and that'd explain how the water he summons is already at a set temperature (since he could easily pre prep off screen) and it'd still be tied to his zanpakuto. I think the springs are important since the way the water is made and it's concoction would've been the actual thing he made and it was turned into a generation Ability by the soul king, and it's his zanpakuto that prepares the concoction for use. Just an idea
Oetsu true zanpakuto may be the super sharp sword since he never went bankai…. it seems like all of the sealed sword forms of the 0 sqaud are very basic objects… a paint brush, spoon, paddle, needle, and a sword. Maybe their seals forms taking the likeness of a basic object is symbolic for their vast array of power…???????? Who agrees?
Wild theory here: Since the zero division are in a way milestones in shinigami history and carry oken in their bodies, their zanpakuto have changed with them in a way. Every other member except for Ichibei has theit zanpakuto in a form of jinzen (the beyond bankai mcguffin ishin taught ichigo to use against aizen). Kinpika for example even unreleased controls the healing waters that can also harm. Ichibei being the exception, since he INVENTED all zanpakuto releases.
I've always wanted to hear your opinion on whether or not any existing characters in bleach will eventually qualify for a zero division spot. I think kisuke and Mayuri have done plenty to earn the position but idk of either of them would accept the offer
I think the Zero Division sealed zanpakuto unique looks are simply a case of having Oetsu to costumize their appearence. If mayuri can modify his zanpakuto why cant the creator not do it

I think that the fight with olets is also a grate showcase of jarards ability because he was so out numbered by shush power hoses of carcters that took multiple captens to beat but he took them all on at once
My own idea about Oetsu's zanpakuto is that it's the giant hammer he uses to forge them with. I'd like to believe that it's type is similar to Ichigo and Kenpachi's, being designed around brute force and reiatsu than anything else. Except it creates an astronomical amount of "kinetic" force, capable of forcibly compressing reiatsu into physical form. Rather than treating it as a weapon, he pulls an Urahara/Mayuri move and treats it as a tool, eventually leading to the first combat-oriented zanpakuto. And then the hammer became his actual zanpakuto after years of forging other ones, and a growing passion for it. The red-haired zanpakuto girl could represent his passion and "burning desire" to create. This would also explain why he doesn't fight with a specific zanpakuto, but a failed one, as he sees his personal one as a tool rather than a weapon.
Is there anything in the lore regarding Oetsu creating the Sokyoku?

Reflection of light off water - also the grim reaper analogue in some Japanese mythology rides around on an oar (the inspiration for Botan from Yu Yu Hakusho). So water, river Styx, cycle of reincarnation, ebb and flow (bad reiastu out, good reiastu in; white pool, red pool), ferryman of the dead.
I'm wonder if Oetsu power is like Infinite blade works where he can create endless (and semi random) Zanpaktos. He can keep what he wants, give them to whoever he wants, and whatever he doesn't want / use returns to wherever.
There is another one that changes the shape of his asauchi : Yamamoto who changes it into a walking stick.
From the little we could've seen from the 0 division, seems like they can manipulate the 4 elements? Like, Oetsu has that zampakuto spirit that ignites fire and he's also a blacksmith, a job usually associated with fire and hot stuff. Kirinji manipulates water at will, Kirio creates that giant tree that absorbs reiatsu, which can be some sort of earth-related power, and Senjumaru... Doesn't have anything directly related to wind, but considering she looks the most swift of the guys in the division, and with a stretch you could relate the fabric stuff to wind, you could complete the 4 elements like this. I wouldn't assume these powers come from their zampakuto either, they seem to be separate things.
