Watched, learned and enjoyed! There is something so sweet about Christian fellowship and laboring and serving together with fellow laborers for the Lord.
I think that it is great that Paul always traveled with others. That is such a good way to be accountable. It shows how important the people around you are.
Great study Dr. Bagwell! Looking forward to revival tonight at Sunnyside as well! Nearly always in the closing section of Paul's epistles he will name certain individuals by name. Tychicus is an errand runner or message bearer. Onesimus lives in Colosse. Paul is in prison when he wrote these words. "State"/κατά/kata/all the things at the foundation. Paul is talking about his situation. "Declare"/γνωρίζω/gnōrizō/to make known, to certify. Paul never writes with himself as the focus. He will never send out a letter as a needs list. He will ask for prayer and for the Word of God to have free course and be glorified. He will ask to be delivered from wicked men. Tychicus will fill in the details for them. Paul will send the epistle to the Colossians via Tychicus. Paul's first description of Tychicus is that he is a beloved brother. "Beloved"/ἀγαπητός/agapētos. "Brother"/ἀδελφός/adelphos/one born out of the same womb. "Faithful"/πιστός/pistos/dependable, regular. "Minister"/διάκονος/diakonos/a preacher and sometimes translated deacon. Tychicus is probably a preacher and will go back to Colosse and fill the pulpit there. "Fellowservant"/σύνδουλος/sundoulos. This is one of the strongest commendations in all of the New Testament. "Sent"/πέμπω/pempō/to send as a delegate or an ambassador. "Same purpose" refers to him finding out about their estate as well. "Know"/γινώσκω/ginōskō. "Estate"/περί/peri/the things around you. "Comfort"/παρακαλέω/parakaleō/alongside, called, summoned, invited, he is coming to be right by your side. He will encourage them and build them up in the faith. Paul is not a lone ranger and never believed in pursuing the things of Christ by himself. He had many teammates. Luke with be mentioned, Timothy, Tychicus, Onesimus etc. Do you have friends who hold you accountable? Tychicus is not a Jewish name, but a Greek name. Onesimus is a slave name. It means "money maker or profitable". Paul does not call Onesimus a preacher or a minister. He is a real believer who has put his trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the same Onesimus mentioned in the book of Philemon. He stole from his master. After you are saved, there may be some things that you need to make right as well. Slaves were property and not to be counted as brothers. However, in Christ this slave Onesimus is counted as a brother. "Make known"/γνωρίζω/gnōrizō/to declare, to give knowledge of. Paul is referring to the sufferings that he is enduring. Paul does not wear his sufferings in shame but rather to the honor and glory of God. Paul is the suffering saint of God. 2 Co_11:23 Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. Wow! Just when I was getting really into it the screen went black. Ha ha! That 30 minutes went by quick. Thank you so much for doing these! They are such a blessing!
