The Oakes Daylilly people are a national treasure. Everything I have ever ordered has come in a timely fashion and thrived. I have visited them and was really impressed with their fields of countless varieties.
Great advice, do not divide them now. I ordered in the past from gilbert h wild and received teeny tiny plants. They took about 2-3 years to get actual flowers. When I ordered from Oakes, I got large healthy plants and got blooms that Spring/Summer 🌸🌸🌸
I have a Daylily bed that I planted about 6 years ago when I first discovered Oakes. Unfortunately, this year - between late spring freezes, lots of rain and then 95 degree temps - it has been neglected a bit. I need to get after it and pull all the weeds that have invaded and generally just clean it up. I may need to divide a few of the more robust varieties. (WOO-HOO! More daylilies!) I plan to order some if your fertilizer to have on hand for next spring. Thanks for the information.
You can grow all varieties in zone 4 but due to your winters, they'll probably all go dormant. In other words, don't count on evergreen varieties to give you green foliage all winter. Hope that makes sense!
@@OakesDaylilies absolutely makes sense. We moved from San Diego to north Idaho. Last year -14°. I just wasn’t sure if All daylilies survive our brutal winter. We’re about 15 miles north of Coeur d Alene. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question 🤷🏼♂️
We ship through October. Fall is actually the best time to divide daylilies. Dividing in fall gives them plenty of time to get reestablished in time for summer bloom. One thing to consider: you'll want to divide and transplant at least one month before your first projected killing freeze. We never have but that would make a good video! There's no reason why you couldn't. They can be planted in containers, so grow bags would work the same. Just keep them watered well and protect them from the cold in winter and they should be fine.

Can daylily and oriental lily be planted together
Yes! They look great together. We have some planted together at our house and they always stop traffic!
