utorrent has tetris in it's about page if you press "t" :-P But, latest versions have viruses :-( so try with utorrent 3.3 (3.3 has no viruses and is fully functional)
I have to hand it to them. That's a great business model, and dare I say one of the most "fair" there is. The big businesses will buy licenses because they have to maintain certain legalities; the home user would most likely never run in to a situation where not buying the license is noticed by or given any importance from any regulatory agency, so it would be asinine to put a hard stop once day 40 is over. So really, everyone wins. The businesses can afford numerous licenses, the devs make their profit and the private home user still gets to benefit. That seems pretty cool to me.
My first pc had windows xp, and it had winrar pre installed. There was a txt file next to the application noting that the person who had previously owned the laptop bought winRar specificaly for anyone who bought that laptop to use. I gave that person 5 stars.
So, entrench it so firmly into the popular computing zeitgeist through allowing private individuals to use it indefinitely for free, and then require companies to pay if they want to be able to use what literally everyone uses. Pretty clever.
It would cost $60 for the base software with nothing to do with it, and they would charge you $10 for every individual feature in the form of DLC but you will only be able to unlock them as loot boxes, so if you want to get all the features you will need to keep buying loot boxes until you randomly unlock the features you wanted.
Acel Damia it's just informal slang from the acronym "lols" with the prefix z- therefore it is an informal simulfix. Language isn't static... -okay I will shut up now-
Random Videos yes they do piracy and they put dangerous ads and apps that you have to be pretty observant to avoid installing and maybe getting a virus
I never understood those who use winrar. 7zip is completely free without popups, is just as simple to use even though I know a lot of you don't seem to think so, and has been proven to be both faster and able to compress more than winrar. It's literally just a better program.
Kevin Hinojosa That is called UA-cam Poop, and forward-reverse technique is used to make people say things like "lol" or more often, "sauce" (sos, sus and the like).
company behind winrar was 3 steps ahead, let the community advertise for free for you, and let the big companies where all the money is coming from that are actually making money from the software have to pay for it. BRILLIANT AF
I wish all software licenses are like this. Anyway, I love WinRAR and I hate WinZIP. Back in the days when Internet are not common, before year 2000, transferring data from one to another is a painful process. We have to compress and copy the files to multiple diskettes and pass the files around. if use WinZIP, you have to zip and insert the each diskette to floppy drive. Not only the process is painfully slow, also not reliable; if one of the diskette corrupted, there goes the entire set of Zip file. You have to restart everything. If without labelling the number in the disk, you are practically unable to know the zip diskette sequence WinRAR has an advantage that I really love. You can RAR all and auto split into 1.44mb per file automatically on the hard disk first. And each file will have number proper sequential format. Just copy each file to each diskette. If any of the file is damaged, you only need to recopy that damaged file from hard disk. Not restart everything.
Ya man diskettes were not reliable at all .. with every disk you pray it works .. Somehow the only diskette that didn't get corrupted is the Win98 boot Diskette .. !! Also I used winrar later to split big games on CDs which were supposed to be on DVDs, because I didn't have a DVD-RW .. good days ..
It definitely works. All my life I've only ever used WinRAR to open archive files. It's one of the first things I get if I get a new laptop, alongside Firefox
Why wouldn't they just go for a business model like TeamViewer or something, where the product is free for non-commercial uses. It seems that would do the same things and be a lot cleaner legally.
Jeru Sanders there is some hidden limit on how many computers you connect to (my laptop hit the limit boots you out after 5 minuets and no reconnect for a set time) I reloaded the laptop problem went away, my desktop though has never been put into super baggage mode
The answer is age. Back when the program first released, this was a very common practice, to distribute demos and trials of nearly every program and game on the market. Free to use software as we know it only started quite recently. TeamViewer is one of these free to use software, but back when WinRAR released, all software was often trial software. Doing this let it blend in better but also making its trial period message more believable. Hence increased sales. Since then, WinRAR hasn't really changed much. It's mostly the same program apart from new algorithms and methods of zipping.
Thanks CHM Tech for explaining our business model in such an amusing and educational way! And of course thanks for purchasing the only license we ever sold, we are still celebrating it ;-)

So, entrench it so firmly into the popular computing zeitgeist through allowing private individuals to use it indefinitely for free, and then require companies to pay if they want to be able to use what literally everyone uses.
Pretty clever.
Imagine if WinRar was made by EA
It would cost $60 for the base software with nothing to do with it, and they would charge you $10 for every individual feature in the form of DLC but you will only be able to unlock them as loot boxes, so if you want to get all the features you will need to keep buying loot boxes until you randomly unlock the features you wanted.

I never understood those who use winrar. 7zip is completely free without popups, is just as simple to use even though I know a lot of you don't seem to think so, and has been proven to be both faster and able to compress more than winrar. It's literally just a better program.
There are video tutorials on how to stop the Winrar popup.

Linux sucks.
If without labelling the number in the disk, you are practically unable to know the zip diskette sequence
WinRAR has an advantage that I really love. You can RAR all and auto split into 1.44mb per file automatically on the hard disk first. And each file will have number proper sequential format. Just copy each file to each diskette. If any of the file is damaged, you only need to recopy that damaged file from hard disk. Not restart everything.
you still don't have those problems, do you?
Ya man diskettes were not reliable at all .. with every disk you pray it works .. Somehow the only diskette that didn't get corrupted is the Win98 boot Diskette .. !!
Also I used winrar later to split big games on CDs which were supposed to be on DVDs, because I didn't have a DVD-RW .. good days ..

Teamviewer still shoves an adscreen in your face when it closes unless you knoble it with comodo or something though.
Yea, but they would be profiting a lot less
it's basically the same I guess but they aren't just direct about it
The answer is age.
After all those years, Winrar is now build into Win11, just like zip and 7zip
no. windows understanding "rar" and other compression formats is not the same as "winrar is built into windows".
