"Do you know how hard it is to write something, because the story you wanna tell means so much to you?" I can already tell I'm going to love this movie.
Dakota Fanning is one of those rare child actors who overcame the stereotypical outcome that we typically see in child stars. It's refreshing to see, I enjoy her movies. Very talented.
The difference from her and other child stars is that she did very serious films for the beginning. While others were doing Disney, Nickelodeon or home alone. She’s always been protested as a serious actor because she hardly did any cute roles. Except maybe cat in the hat.
Maybe because he read that star trek script which fell out the window and guessed she is star trek fan... and tried to calm her by creating a familiar surrounding.. like not many people know Klingon... and when someone else shares a similar fandom it creates a sense of familiarity with that person
To me, the true test of an actor/actress's abilities is how well they portray someone on the autism spectrum. As an 18 year old boy with Asperger's Syndrome and a fan a great story telling, I was blown away Dakota Fanning's portray of someone with autism and the story she told. A true Warrior would not let a friend face danger alone. Words to live by.
Light, it can travel for millions of years before finally reaching its destination... it goes lonely and alone hoping that it will reach someone...The unknown is there for us to conquer not fear. Best line of this movie :)
well it’s already a plus that they didn’t even have to mention the word “autistic” in the trailer and I can already tell by Dakota’s acting. I went to a secondary school that accepts autistic teens and her portrayal from the trailer is pretty spot on (of course autism is a spectrum and I can’t speak for everyone).
Linds Tee in middle school, we had a severely autistic girl in our class who was really into pokemon. She would pull out her hair. She had no idea how to talk to people. No one really talked to her, including me. I regret that. She was sweet. She would often be bald from how much she pulled out her hair. It makes me sad now, but I didn't understand when I was 11. We had another boy, one grade ahead of me. I never saw him speak. He was so pale, like he had never gone outside for too long. It must've been hell for them both. No one ever made fun of them, as far as I know. No one spoke to them though. Her name was Casey, and I believe the boy's name was austin.
As someone who has Aspergers I just want to add that I agree, everyone on the spectrum is different but I feel like she's doing an amazing job portraying an autistic character. I'm also glad they haven't made that the focus of the character because then it becomes about the diagnoses and not them as a person. Props to Dakota and the writer(s)
I saw Jane wants a boyfriend and cried. I saw myself in Jane. I only saw this trailer and see myself again. My fanfictions and costumes are my way of escaping a confusing world. I know how everyone is, what everyone means because they are prewritten characters. To see others enjoy my stories is very validating. I am so glad to see other movies with autistic young women. These movies are so well acted I see myself. I hope others do too.
Well to me it beats the fucking Taiko drums and low-freq bass drops that are by law required to be in every trailer. But still, ukuleles and focus group jingles are also as repellant as sleigh bells at a funeral.
Having a son with asd I get excited every time a film or show comes out with someone who has autism but a film about a girl with autism is even more incredible as girls on the spectrum need their voice heard too x
I am always so nervous as well, because it feels like there is always such a significant chance that it will be a complete misrepresentation, and make autistic people seem like burdens or complete idiots.
I think a lot of people can relate to this story. Because it is a story about a person who doesn't have many people who believe in her but still set out on her own quest to a goal that she, herself, strongly believe in. Seriously really love to see this movie.
Yes! I'm so happy they made a film and about a female too! Like nobody without autism knows anything about females on the spectrum especially higher functioning ones !
"Do you know how hard it is to write something? Because the story you wanna tell means something?" Omg I could relate because I'm writing a memoir about my life but I struggle every day finding the right words for others to understand and relate.
Holy crap... my heart was pounding by the end, by the sheer amount I relate to this girl, she is literally EXACTLY ME at age 16!! I live in smalltown Michigan, was obsessed with Voyager & Xfiles, and wrote my own scripts/fanfic of both in 2000, and was granted a wish by the Starlight Foundation & was able to go to L.A. for a week, one day which I spent visiting the Xfiles set & meeting the stars. I regret that I didnt use my wish to just relocate to Cali, or do something else in LA. Meeting your idols doesn't always work out...
It's like a star trek fanfiction about a girl who writes star trek fanfiction, turned into a movie. Awesome. PS. Dakota Fanning is perfect for the role.
Just as I was thinking “Man, they’re never have movies or TV shows about girls with autism!” this comes out! Dakota Fanning is my favorite actress! I know this movie is going to be awesome!
Wow.... This movie Is Amazing! Im watching this movie tonight and i think is deserve nomination to Oscar... Dakota Is Born to be actress... No other Words... Everyone deserve to Watch this movie!
well this is one way to bring star trek into the modern day. i just love dakota and love how she didnt turn out so bad after her teens shes grown since she was a kid and ive loved her ever since the first time she made me smile. big fan of this girl. she has a great future with acting. her horror films terrify me tho
I already know I can't watch this movie because I'll be too worried if the dog is ok. I kept feeling my heart stop every second in the trailer when I couldn't see the dog in her purse.
She had the part down where people that have her condition always looks down and never makes eye contact, has to follow a routine, can get upset with a drop of a hat and be a sweetheart at the same time.
Arkzus I know right?! I just happened to watch this trailer on UA-cam because it was the next recommended video right below another trailer I was watching a few minutes ago. I did not realize this movie even existed. It looks like a really good film to watch.
Arkzus Amazon prime? My father has the membership so I guess I could try to watch it on his account? Anyway thanks so very much for letting me know where to check this film out. Peace out!!
Okay...but why wouldn't the competition accept online submissions of the script? That was actually the first question that popped into my head while watching this...
+ytubeanon just so you know, it's called a meltdown, and it's different from a tantrum, because it is a loss of control due to stress, whereas a tantrum is communication and is generally used to get something, they are two different mechanisms. Just thought you would like to know.
Thanks for Please Stand By Dakota Fanning.I probably never get used to that so many humans treat mentally sick people like garbage.Really sad for sure. Its sometimes a complicated world with only one humanity who many times still cant understand each other and having a mentally disorder in that world probably dont make it easier. And last, why did she walk against the red dont walk sign in the end when this disorder doesnt work that way in her concentrated mind. Thanks again.
Probably because Dakota has had more consistent experience in mainstream film while Elle prioritized modeling and ballet for some time. Elle always seemed to treat acting like a hobby, which I thought was cool because you could tell she would only take parts in films she was legitimately invested in, usually indie films.
Now this looks a good heart warming film with geekiness thrown in. Dakota playing a person with, dare I say it, Autisum. Not many films out there like this. Okay, going to be a good one to watch, maybe Oscar?
I literally just started watching Star Trek Next Generation today after finishing Voyager and I went on yt to watch Voyager fanvideos and then I wanted to see if there was any new movie trailers out for any new movies and this is the first one I clicked on and I SWEAR IM PSYCHIC AND NO ONE CAN CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE

Yes that is a great line, but it refers to a Star Trek spec script, so what is so meaningful in that story?
@@robrobbins The prize for the Star Trek writing contest is $100,000. Enough to buy back her childhood home that her older sister wants to sell.
Dakota Fanning is one of those rare child actors who overcame the stereotypical outcome that we typically see in child stars. It's refreshing to see, I enjoy her movies. Very talented.
She went to high school like a normal teen
Lohan, Beiber, Bynes, Spears, Culkin to name a few.
Hopefully she can help break the stereotypes surrounding autism and autistic people in return.
@ Luke Belanger: Thanks Luke… now you jinxed it…
The difference from her and other child stars is that she did very serious films for the beginning. While others were doing Disney, Nickelodeon or home alone. She’s always been protested as a serious actor because she hardly did any cute roles. Except maybe cat in the hat.

that made me cry! i have no idea why!
Me too!
It got me when I saw Toni Colette & Dakota Fanning's names.

lucky258 exactly ;)
I would say 'explore' or 'discover' instead of 'conquer'! Oh, you Americans...
Billions in fact
I dunno, lucky258. The unknown is pretty scary to me. For example: will I pass my final exams? It is unknown.
Well, sh*t.
you havent even watched the movie yet so...

A movie about a fanfiction writer. This is what I need.
an autistic fanfiction writer.
kmn, I think the character is autistic.
This movie's director: "I want the most generic indie movie soundtrack ever."
Hipster soundtrack guy: *takes out his ukulele* "Say no more!"
This should be top-comment xD so much ^this!!!
So tired of all these trailers having the same stupid sounding music in the background. It totally ruins them.
Well to me it beats the fucking Taiko drums and low-freq bass drops that are by law required to be in every trailer. But still, ukuleles and focus group jingles are also as repellant as sleigh bells at a funeral.
🤣🤣🤣😂😂 made my night
XD
LOL. When I saw Alice Eve as Dakota's older sister I was like "Wha??? Doctor Carol Marcus from Star Trek is in a movie about a Star Trek fan!" hahaha

I am a mom to a autistic girl who is such a Trekkie!!! This story looks inspiring... It is life giving.
I had to send this link to a friend. She's on the borderline autistic spectrum, is a huge Star Trek fan, and yes, she speaks Klingon.
Yeah, she seems atypical autistic, but honestly, most films/tv portrayals are low functioning stereotypical autists, like Forrest Gump and Rain Man.
Yes! I'm so happy they made a film and about a female too! Like nobody without autism knows anything about females on the spectrum especially higher functioning ones !
I sent her the link with the comment, "this was made for you". She replied, "It certainly was". She's looking forward to seeing it.
@@ryanocerus7853 forrest is low functioning!?
Dude, are we seeing the same movie?
It is a spectrum, so forget about a borderline.
Dakota Fanning is getting better and better as an actress. Loved her in The Frankenstein Chronicles!
Dakota has always been an amazing actress. This trailer reinforces that now more than ever.
"Do you know how hard it is to write something? Because the story you wanna tell means something?" Omg I could relate because I'm writing a memoir about my life but I struggle every day finding the right words for others to understand and relate.
Dakota Fanning is such a wonderful and talented Actress from day 1!
I loved this movie! It's unfortunate that it's not more popular because it is SO good!
Looks like a really nice emotional film that will be worth going to the cinema to watch.
Some scenes she doesn't have the dog... she better not lose it or get it killed... IT'S IMPORTANT T.T
Clash well if you watch the film you’ll see
i wondered about that also
Pete should be nominated for an Oscar
This is more about Start Trek than Star Trek
Dakota Fanning is so amazing i don't care whatever you say
This could be the best Star Trek movie of all time !
Dakota Fanning is an absolutely brilliant actress!

Who else in the beginning thought this was another Star Trek movie?
I did :))
It is a Star Trek movie...
It feels like I've been waiting a long time to see Dakota Fanning back on the screen, and this seems like the perfect movie to see her back in.
Adult Dakota deserves more recognition and bigger roles she is a brilliant actress
Don't you hate it when you finish watching a trailer and you feel like you've seen everything of the movie?
It's like a star trek fanfiction about a girl who writes star trek fanfiction, turned into a movie.
Awesome.
PS. Dakota Fanning is perfect for the role.
Just as I was thinking “Man, they’re never have movies or TV shows about girls with autism!” this comes out! Dakota Fanning is my favorite actress! I know this movie is going to be awesome!

When Patton Oswalt called out to her in Klingon it brought a tear to my eye.
Dakota Fanning is such a great actress ,after being a child actor ,that doesn't happen often!
Soooo... I basically just watched the entire movie. Great ¬¬
Toni Collette is on everything this year and I'm ok with that
I am in love with this movie and haven't even seen it yet.
I am . . . intrigued

I want to see this movie so bad but I’m afraid of how many times my eyes will rain while watching it.
