I personally think the les mis finale is so impactful with all the ensemble coming out but also I really think that down once more is a really good number as it is like a 10 minute extravaganza where the main climax of phantom is and I also like the overlapping harmonies in it where we see how it is all Christine’s choice and the last scene where Meg holds the mask is iconic as it leaves ambiguity
For me, I think the two greatest finale numbers I've ever seen/heard are "Tell Me It's Not True" from Blood Brothers - that song just hits you like a sledgehammer!! The entire show is building up to the inevitable moment the brothers discover the truth and whether or not the "prophecy" will come true and that song is SUCH a simply melody that just builds...and builds...and builds, also finally resolving the running musical theme of "Marilyn Monroe" that has been popping in and out the entire way through the show. My other choice is from a CRIMINALLY underrated Howard Goodall musical called "Girlfriends", set on a WAAF base during WW2. Two good friends join the auxiliary air force and have their lives forever changed by their experiences in service, and the final line again brings back 3 of the musical themes running throughout the entire show with multi-layer counterpoint melodies, before the entire company comes together for the final lines "first day, the roar of the planes in our ears/that sound will echo for years and years", completely a capella to make the line more poignant and the fact that we know that the efforts of the soldiers in the war HAVE been relived, retold and remembered for years and years. Just...WOW!! Why is this show not more known and more loved??
My final pair was Who Lives Who Dies vs One and I gave it to Who Lives Who Dies :) It's just like no matter how many times I've listened to Hamilton, I still always get emotional listening to that song. It is that powerful! Full bracket for me - some of these choices vs yours are potentially due to being less familiar with a few of the shows, but I'm happy with them overall :) Louder Than Words / Who Lives Who Dies - Who Lives Who Dies Build a Prom / Being Alive - Being Alive For Now / A Glitzy Finale - A Glitzy Finale Why We Tell The Story / Sunday (Reprise) - Sunday (Reprise) Children Will Listen / Light - Light Light at the End of the Tunnel / I See Stars - I See Stars Midnight Radio / Seeing You - Midnight Radio Song of Purple Summer / SIX - SIX Opening Up (Finale) / Les Mis Finale - Les Mis Finale Rose's Turn / Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag - Rose's Turn One / Let The Sunshine In - One Don't Feed the Plants / Little Big Things - Don't Feed the Plants Welcome to the Rock (Finale) / Just Be - Just Be Jump in the Line / Road To Hell II - Road to Hell II Cabaret's Finale / Find My Way - Cabaret's Finale You Can't Stop The Beat / Flying Away - You Can't Stop The Beat Who Lives Who Dies / Being Alive - Who Lives Who Dies A Glitzy Finale / Sunday (Reprise) - Sunday (Reprise) Light / I See Stars - Light Midnight Radio / SIX - Midnight Radio Les Mis Finale / Rose's Turn - Rose's Turn One / Don't Feed The Plants - One Just Be / Road To Hell II - Just Be Cabaret's Finale / You Can't Stop The Beat - You Can't Stop The Beat Who Lives Who Dies / Sunday (Reprise) - Who Lives Who Dies Light / Midnight Radio - Midnight Radio Rose's Turn / One - One Just Be / You Can't Stop The Beat - You Can't Stop The Beat Who Lives Who Dies / Midnight Radio - Who Lives Who Dies One / You Can't Stop The Beat - One Who Lives Who Dies / One - Who Lives Who Dies
Caveat that I'm not super familiar with some of these Louder Than Words / Who Lives Who Dies - Who Lives Who Dies Build a Prom / Being Alive - Do not know either song, so will default to yours (Build a Prom) For Now / A Glitzy Finale - For Now Why We Tell The Story / Sunday (Reprise) - Sunday (Reprise) Children Will Listen / Light - Children Will Listen (I was in Into the Woods in high school, so a little biased here) Light at the End of the Tunnel / I See Stars - Light at the End of the Tunnel (such a shame this gets through while matchups 8, 10, and 11 both songs beat both of these) Midnight Radio / Seeing You - Midnight Radio Song of Purple Summer / SIX - SIX (I have a soft spot for the historical stuff behind it) Opening Up (Finale) / Les Mis Finale - Les Mis Finale Rose's Turn / Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag - Rose's Turn (this tears me apart - Chicago is prob top 3 for me for a show on the whole, but the finale is not the singular best part) One / Let The Sunshine In - One (another major wrench here - I'd heard Let the Sunshine In before I was even aware of the existence of Hair, so I have a harder time thinking of it as Hair's finale, rather than just a song. One, I tie more closely to Chorus Line) Don't Feed the Plants / Little Big Things - Don't Feed the Plants Welcome to the Rock (Finale) / Just Be - Just Be Jump in the Line / Road To Hell II - Road to Hell II Cabaret's Finale / Find My Way - Cabaret's Finale You Can't Stop The Beat / Flying Away - You Can't Stop The Beat Who Lives Who Dies over the song I'm not familiar with For Now over Sunday Children Will Listen over I Can Finally Eliminate This (Light at the End of the Tunnel) Midnight Radio (barely) over SIX Les Mis over Rose's Turn (I'm so sorry Ellie, I can't eliminate Les Mis, it's possibly my winner overall) One over Don't Feed the Plants Just Be over Road to Hell You Can't Stop the Beat over Cabaret Who Lives Who Dies over For Now Children Will Listen over Midnight Radio Les Mis over One (can't say it skated to the final, that's 2 big eliminations in a row) You Can't Stop The Beat over Just Be Who Lives Who Dies over Children Will Listen ( 🥲) Les Mis over You Can't Stop The Beat Les Mis over Who Lives Who Dies
23:37 - Regarding the Cabaret finale, in the proshot with Alan Cumming as Emcee, the finale is VERY different and in my opinion, SO much better than the more commonly used ending!
The seeding in this bracket is wild (I'm sure it was random). Having to eliminate one of One or Let The Sunshine In in the first round, while also having to advance one of Starlight Express or Mean Girls - can we just put them in a group stage, so the obviously better songs both get to advance...
Megamixes would be fun! Other idea: songs from musicals that became radio hits. Because TO THIS DAY it blows my mind that One Night in Bangkok was popular on the radio. A Google of "Broadway songs that were radio hits" will get you a list.
My favourite finale is probably Raise Up/Just Be from Kinky Boots, and Light from Next To Normal but I also love Finale B from RENT. The Little Big Things for example has the same problem that you mentioned with the previous song being stronger than the finale itself, because Guide You is probably my favourite from that musical.
Winner of each round for me personally on this day at this moment in time… :) ROUND 1 Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story Being Alive Glitzy Finale Sunday (Reprise) Children Will Listen Light at the End of the Tunnel Seeing You Song of Purple Summer Les Mis Finale Roses Turn One Little Big Things Raise You Up Road to Hell II Find My Way Flying Away ROUND 2 Being Alive Sunday (Reprise) Children Will Listen Song of Purple Summer Roses Turn One Road to Hell II Flying Away ROUND 3 Sunday (Reprise) Children Will Listen Roses Turn Flying Away ROUND 4 Sunday (Reprise) Roses Turn WINNER Sunday (Reprise)
How dare the gods put into the woods against next to normal in round 1 2 of favourite musical of all time. Not fair both should have gone through more 1 round
I was OK with most of your choices mostly because I hadn't seen many of the shows so I didn't have a strong opinion. However I would have chosen "Flying away" over "Can't Stop The Music" Mainly because "Flying Away" brought the deep heart felt story to a beautiful end (Crying happy tears) where "Can't Stop" was just a big celebration of having a happy ending, entertaining YES but not what I perferred over a deeply moving story. Hairspray has a more mainstream story (It did deal with interesting social problems).Of course these are just my opinions, not the "right ones" 😉 I also felt better when you knocked "Just Be" out saying you already gave it slim pass over CFA finale 😊 Keep these coming! I know you have a million more songs you can use!!🥰

Chaos Queen of the VS Brackets is back!!!!!
Raúl Esparza's version of "Being Alive" honestly would top everything👀👀👀👀👀
I love how passionate you are 😊😊

OOOH interesting - so things like 'Love Changes Everything' and I guess 'This is Me' from Greatest Showman could also count
@@EllieTalksTheatre Also "Let the Sun Shine In" which is clearly a fave. 😀
I think this is an idea that may be hard to do as a bracket BUT I might be able to do something else with it... 👀
Looking more stunning everyday
😮😮 Welcome to the Rock rocksssss
It's not included on the bracket, but my favorite theatre finale will always be the finale of Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame musical!
a great choice for if I ever do a sequel to this!
Another great video thanks 😊❤
BRING ON THE BRACKET!!!!!
3:09 - Starlight Express has several different Megamixes so do keep that in mind if you choose to do a Megamix Bracket!
I went and watched the winner in movie version I love it ❤

I will always stand that Finale B from RENT is the best finale, but that is just my personal bias 😊
I agree
Oh wow I'm very surprised I left that off the bracket!
@@EllieTalksTheatre gonna have to do a part 2... 👀
Mamma Mia! Finale Megamix
"Road to hell (reprise)" is just so so poignant. You've just gotten a punch to the gut, and then they bring in such meaning to it.
For me it will always be Hairspray
How dare the gods put into the woods against next to normal in round 1 2 of favourite musical of all time. Not fair both should have gone through more 1 round
In my opinion Alice By Heart has the best finale song of any musical
❤❤❤❤
